Nevertheless, I follow the policy of "every effing gun is always effing loaded," even though I just "unloaded" it.  I make it a rule that if I put it down for even a couple of seconds, I check it again when I pick it up.

I like your style.  Sometimes, when I'm in the mood for dry fire practice, I have a hard time getting started, because I'll check chamber and magazine well clear, and as I move my left hand back down to a shooting grip, I start to second-guess myself and have to check again.  Up to slide, back to grip.  Was it unloaded?  Crap.  Back up to slide, good to go.  Ok, it's good.  Back to grip.  Damn, maybe I missed something.  Better check again.

Sometimes in class, even though all the guns are unloaded, I've checked them before the class, and verified that no ammunition is present, and I checked it clear when I picked up, I STILL do a double-check before I can force myself to pull the trigger.
I'm just a fluffy white bunny rabbit who lost his way.

A rule everyone should live by.

Hypervigilance is better than complacency and ND. I like to field strip to give myself peace of mind that there's no ammo anywhere before doing any kind of practice or work on a gun. With all ammo safely secured and away of course.

Hypervigilant is my middle name after I was involved in the negligent shooting of an innocent dining room chair once upon a time.  They say the two loudest sounds in the world are "bang" when you expected a "click"; and a "click" when you expected a "bang."  I can tell you for damn sure they're at least half-right!  The loudest sound I've ever heard in my life was a little old 22 caliber Ruger pistol.  Very nearly soiled myself on that one!

Haha, well it hasn't again happened so far, but I don't think I'll breathe easy about NDs never happening again until I'm checking in with old Saint Pete!  Once is an anomaly, twice is a trend, and I sure don't want to set a trend of doing dumb stuff with dangerous things!  lol

A one shot stop?  With a .22?  Excellent!

Yeah, the chair was down for the count after that.  After emergency application of wood putty, the chair has made a full recovery.  Hasn't threatened me since, either!

Just got back home and registered my Service Rifle gun and took a picture of inside the box. Looks like trash. The sand part might be sealed behind another black piece of wood.
