Semi auto .45 that isn't a 1911
« on: May 15, 2012, 11:56:08 PM »
I definitely want to get a 1911 at some point but I'd rather have my first pistol chambered in 45 be a polymer framed one.  Anyone have any recommendations?
Polymer 45's I can think of off the top of my head.
HK 45/45c
M&P 45/45c
Ruger P345
Glock 30/36

An HK 45 is at the top of my list but the price of HK pistols is somewhat hard to come to terms with when many other options can be had for a lot less.

HK 45.....buy once, cry once.

I also have Rugers and Glocks.  Everything you have listed is good, really depends on what you want to spend.

BTW, I got my HK45 for a great price at OGC (beat some mainland prices!)

I (and my wallet) am super happy with the Springfield XD 45. There is also the XDM for about $100 more - still less than many other non-1911 45's out there.

Ya, I've come to realize the HK45c pretty much has my name it. Time to start putting in major hours at work.
Were you able to get your 45 for under 1000? the few sites that have them listed all seem to be very close to msrp

With my military discount, yes I got the HK45 for under 1k from OGC. Without the discount you may be a tad above 1k.
Once you factor in FFL fees, shipping, etc. buying from OGC was the best deal.

Good luck on getting some overtime to pay for your sickness! ;)

Go to the shop and hold as many as u can to see what feels/fits best.  Whichever one that is, u will probably shoot best. With that said, I love the grip on my m&p9 so I'd lean hard to the m&p 45

FWIW, I'm in love with the M&P's, and my only dilemna as far as next pistol purchase is whether I want an M&P40 or an M&P45!  The interchangeable backstraps are glorious, whether you're a tiny-handed woman, or a gorilla-pawed longshoreman.  Not to mention that the grip is nicely curved and contoured, unlike damn near every other pistol on the market, where the goal seems to be making the pistol as blocky, chunky, and uncomfortable as possible.  (I'm looking at you, Gaston!  :grrr:)

I too suggest the M&P chambered in .45.  I bought my wife one chambered in 9mm.  We both enjoy shooting it, and a higher caliber one will be purchased sometime in the near future.

I would like to take this opportunity that you can get a RIA 1911, NIB, for $450.

I'll spend a bit more a get a Springfield milspec or a Remington R1, after I get my HK45  :geekdanc:  I do like the the Glock 30 but I don't wanna give up a SA/DA trigger, I might get a striker fire pistol some day.

HK USP

I like the improvements on the USP that went in to the HK 45, though the USP 45 Compact is gorgeous

I hate that forking finger groove on the inside of the trigger guard of the HK45.  I like everything about the HK45C except the reduced sight radius in comparison to the HK54.

Of the recent firearms though I'd opt for the M&P45 if I was to buy a composite 45.

I got a glock 21sf and so far it's great.
