Ruger American Rimfire model 8334 (the mini predator)
« on: May 08, 2016, 10:07:35 PM »
this is info on the rifle:
http://ruger.com/products/americanRimfire/specSheets/8334.html
its much like their regular American RImfire, but it also has a threaded barrel, optics rail, OD green stock, no sights

I call it the mini predator bc it looks just like the Ruger American Predator:
http://ruger.com/products/americanRiflePredator/models.html

for mid $300 dollar range you get a few things:
free floated threaded barrel, mounted rail, adjustable trigger 3-5 lbs, takes any 10/22 mag.

so far I had 1 shooting session to dial in the scope (primary arms 6x acss reticle 22LR)
it was a quick session, so i didn't test different ammo too much, only federal auto match and federal gold medal match HV
so far I only shot 1 target to sight in, and 1 target after.  so not a whole lot of testing yet.
the trigger is very good for a stock rimfire trigger.  short pull, 3-5  lbs.
after i dialed in the scope I shot another target.  this is with both the GMM and the auto match ammo: (at 50 yards)

overall I'm very pleased with the rifle
its not a precision bolt action, but you get a lot for the money.  decent accuracy so far.
I'll do better testing and separate the ammo for each target in the future and update the thread as I do.
I'm sure i'll get better groupings as i test different ammo.

heres a few pics of the rifle when i got it and with a few accessories:

this is a bx15 mag below:

Looks just like my predator in 308. even has the same muzzle brake. (I added the brakes)

I have this same model. This was my testing at Koko Head with different types of ammo at 50 yards.

I have found, generally speaking, that the CCI SV works well in almost every gun I have tried it in. Pistols, rifles it doesn't matter. Only issue with the CCI SV I have had is their quality control since the last election has been horrid as far as the waxy lube they put on the bullets. With a bolt action it is not so bad. But with a semi auto and tight chamber dimensions the lube build up is so bad it has caused Failure to Feed in some of my guns.

Here is my post on Rimfire Central when I first discovered the lube issue:

Stang, I highly recommend cutting a coil off of the trigger spring. It's not hard to drop the trigger weight down to 2 lbs.

Thanks for the report. Can I ask what bi-pod you are using and whether you like it or not?

New members should introduce yourself. It's the courteous thing to do. We have a thread just for that purpose.

did an ammo comparison with 3 different ones:
federal auto match, federal gold medal match, and CCI standard velocity
had a few flyers which were my fault.  would like to go back so i dont have any flyers, but thats what i got so thats what i have to report this time.
so far i would say this rifle is capable of 1" groups, maybe better with a better shooter.   ;)
but i'll test more ammo and do the 22 fun match soon

first was federal auto match
with 2 flyers, otherwise was about 1/2 inch group

next is federal gold medal match
1 flyer, otherwise just under 1"

last is CCI standard velocity
no flyers, just over 1 inch group

I have other ammo to test, so i'll be back.....

I think that you and I had almost the same results, which means that either we both suck and pull one of the 5 shots in a 5-shot group, OR our RAR will strangely pull a shot once every 5-shot group. I think it's the latter.

Do all your magazines fit ok?
My 1022 mags did not fit my friend's ruger american.

I have the regular 10 shot mag, 15 and 25.
they all fit.

They all fit but I did have several rounds that were difficult to feed.
Needed to pull bolt partly back and force it forward to get the round to chamber with the 15 round mag
No problems with the 10 round. Didn't try the 25 round yet.

The weird thing was that my mags fit the 1022 and 7722 but would not seat into the American.
Maybe about 80% ...then stuck.

Stang, I was thinking of upgrading to the Boyd's stock. Did you ever look into that?
