General Discussion / Re: Online registration times?
« on: May 19, 2026, 10:13:22 PM »
I submit my registrations online cause time is money, and I want to put in the least effort in the scheme.  If you submit the form online and you keep proof, then the gun is registered.  I can see needing the forms quickly if you need it for military permits or something.

Off Topic / Re: What happened to the Vegas I used to know.....smh
« on: May 18, 2026, 08:07:00 PM »
I think either many of the old timers that would be playing all day died during covid.  When I was downtown when Vegas reopened and a few years later, there were much less old people there.  Like Fremont craps table was empty at 2pm. I was the only one throwing the dice.  Precovid, at that time at least 2 tables were full and having all 4 full wouldn't be uncommon.  Mostly with old people.

Or another posibility is that due to covid lockdowns and high risk for old people, they stayed home and their health deteriorated faster, so they're unable to move around as easily.  When you're old and stay home all day, your physical and mental health decline quickly compared to leaving the house to do stuff.  So they're unable to go to Vegas now.

Part of it may have been a break in routines.  People used to go once a year, or once a month.  Throw in a 3 year break plus a reluctance of dying of the disease, old people don't feel like going anymore.

I used to go there twice year.  I've been there once or twice since covid.  I just don't feel the urge to go there.

Imagine if every man here stepped up as Alan Beck does.

Why, we’d be living in free country.

It didn't require an attorney to stop this.  Anyone, including yourself, can make stuff like this happen.  Just requires a call to TheBus management and elevating it up until someone changes it.  If that doesn't work, a call to the Mayors office or 2A friendly city council member should do it.  Attorneys are the last resort.

Thank you for the links.  I guess it boils down to whether or not that TRO & preliminary injunction are still in place.  My understanding is that the Supreme Court case only involves the "default rule" for private businesses, and doesn't involve the other portions of the TRO like beaches, parks, etc.  I think most TROs have a time limit, but I don't see that in the 91 page document.  Though I might have missed it.  Others here have far more understanding of these matters than I do.  It's just strange that they removed the page completely, when it was about the only official source to communicate the law to the public.  Maybe I need to print out that 91 page court order to carry in my vehicle.  ???

Preliminary injunction is still in place for the bans requiring express permission, parks/beaches, places serving alcohol, banks, shared parking lots. The 9th circuit en banc opinion/order removing the preliminary injunction never took effect due to SCOTUS stepping in.  The bans may comeback partially, depends what SCOTUS does next month.

https://www.civilbeat.org/2026/05/the-sunshine-blog-did-a-state-senator-kill-a-reps-bill-out-of-spite/

This article says why SB2575 failed, the bill increasing penaltys for possessing a gun connected to other crimes and TROs.  Senate wanted to up the penalty for possessing a gun while under a TRO to a Class A felony with a 10 year minimum, up from the bills Class C felony, and up from the current misdemeanor.  House didn't agree and there was a spat between legislators killing each others bills at the end.

Thank you for writing this and sharing your experience, it was a good read.

I really want to take a shotgun class.  They are fun to shoot and difficult to master.  I get out the dummies at night sometimes when the kids are sleeping and the wife is working so I can practice my loading.  I just wish it wasn't so damn loud to pump the action and eject the shells to do it again

Just your luck, Mission Bravo has a class next weekend.  They only do a shotgun class once a year.  I think HRA does a shotgun skillbuilder once a year too.  For live-fire practice, I go to Schofield, or HRA & Hawaii Tactical Division open shoots at Koko Head, or Mile Marker 16 range on the Big Island.

I received the new replacement scope.  That was fast and quick service, didn't have to send the old one back.

Of course it shouldn't have broke in the first place.  Anyone need a cover for their Bushnell legend spotting scope?  I got two now.

Very useful and informative tips on how to make economical yet delicious steaks.  Meat prices are getting ridiculous nowadays.

I always wanted to buy that bacon press thing you have.  I want to use it on my burger patties.  Where did you get that?

It's a grill press.  I started using one and it helps things cook evenly, prevents oil spashing, and cooks quicker.

Ya steak prices are high, something to do with the cattle industry is having unusually low supply now, and it takes years for them to catch up.  Salmon prices are insane, the farmed stuff cost just as much as steaks.  I dunno why.

Nothing but the best for mom tonight.  On my journey of cooking the best steak, this is the top so far, along with being the best round steak I've ever made.  $6 top round roast didn't quite reach filet levels, but it's tender & juicy - the equivalent of a good New York Strip.  The cheapest steak was actually the bottom roast, but I decided to splurge on the extra 50 cents 'cause it's Mother's Day.  Would you like to know more?  Watch I turned a $1 steak into a $100 steak:

Cooked perfectly to medium with a crust this time!

$6 steaks, I could do this every week

I skipped the MSG, no Aji for me. And I have to figure out how to make compound butter.

Sharp knife first! I learned how to sharpen knives recently. Sharpall is the best mid-level diamond sharpening stone you can buy

Look at those beautiful $6 steaks

Drybrine and tenderizer for 6 hours, little bit of liquid smoke, and Wagyu tallow injection.

I feel like I could do botox injections on myself.

Clarified butter

Did a reverse sear in the oven. Using my virgin cast iron pan to sear and baste with butter, fresh garlic and rosemary

Finally putting my bacon press to use.

The lead case is the New Jersey assault weapon/magazine ban which is currently under review by their en banc court, with an opinion coming out this year.  That will likely be our first federal appeals court win, on AWB and magazines, with 6 Trump judges, 2 Bush judges, and 6 democrat appointed judges on the panel.  All other appeals to date have been loses which is why SCOTUS didn't take it up.  This would be the first win and circuit split resulting in SCOTUS likely taking it up next year.  If it's a total 2A win, New Jersey could decide not to appeal it to SCOTUS.  However SCOTUS has been perpetually holding on to Duncan vs Bonta on California's magazine ban which they can continue to hold until the New Jersey opinion is released.  They could then take up Duncan next year if New Jersey isn't elevated up to them.

So it's possible Hawaii's magazine ban, and possibly our assault pistol ban, could be eliminated sometime in the 2nd half of next year.

I wish the Feds would investigate the Luke case.  See what they can uncover there.

The feds are investigating Luke.  That's why she left.

If Roy had no financial gain in this, or political gain as Kealoha was in a bad way at the time, why did he push the payment?  Same with the other 2.  A simple "lets check with legal if we can do this" would have solved all the problems.  "sorry Louie, we can't pay you out as we don't have the money." And if he sues, then let it be.  All the blame would be off their shoulders as legal told them they can't do this.

Conspiracy doesn't require a motive, just that they planned to do something that was a federal crime.  He knew what he was doing was illegal.  He probably thought we can sweep all this stuff under the rug and get Kealoha off our backs, the worse that'll happen is the news reveals it and theres some controversy but people will forget about it.  Past thinking is anyone can get away with things and Feds don't care.  It was with Kealoha that Feds started caring and busting people.

I see what you're getting at now.  The payment wasn't done out of personal greed but instead tied to a Federal investigation of the Kealoha's which led to federal charges.  The other two were hit with conspiracy and deprivation of rights, basically corruption charges.  Amamiya got consipracy.  Conspiracy is a very broad charge and can cover a lot of things.

Normally if this was done with no Federal involvement, there would be no charges and those involved fired from their positions or it covered up.

I was told it could be the nitrogen seals got compromised releasing oil onto the lens.

Think this might be the problem, oil instead of mold.  Some sort of oil is leaking above the eyepiece of the scope.  The scope has a rubber armor covering so you can't really see it.

General Discussion / Scope mold?
« on: May 07, 2026, 12:07:37 PM »
Anyone had mold problems with their scopes?  I haven't used my spotting scope in years until this past weekend when I noticed faint diagonal dotted lines.  I tried cleaning the lenses to no avail and the lines focus and magnify with the reticle.  Bought the Bushnell Legend Tactical spotting scope 6 years ago and it has a lifetime warranty.  Contacted Bushnell customer service with a picture and they're sending me a replacement today.  Was quick and easy.  They didn't say if it was mold.  Find it odd that mold would grow in parallel lines like that.
