General Discussion / Man acquitted of charges in Kona hotel shooting
« on: September 05, 2014, 12:05:44 PM »
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20140905_Man_acquitted_of_charges_in_Kona_hotel_shooting.html

Accused of shooting 28 rounds from a rifle and two handguns in the air in the parking lot at Kona hotel. Judge released him after he was acquitted but must see psychiatric care.

Where do you think the gun control system failed? It doesn't say if these firearms are legal or not. What happened to the background check? What about the 14 day handgun waiting period? Or did the system work until he became insane but the system did not update itself?

Edit: this wasn't meant to be a debate. Just what do you think happened and did the system work or not? I know there is no details but don't you wonder what happened?

Reloading / Buying once fired rifle brass
« on: August 26, 2014, 10:09:24 PM »
I heard in person that I shouldn't buy once fired for my bolt rifle which is a Remington 700. At the time I didn't ask why but I read that when fired, the brass forms in that specific chamber. Wouldn't using a full size resizer die solve that so I can use it in my rifle or would it be more like you can do that but it's not recommended? It's much cheaper to buy it used or get it free from friends.

Reloading / Thumler's vs. Biggdawg Wet Tumblers
« on: August 05, 2014, 10:16:34 AM »
Anyone tried the Thumler's Model B or the Biggdawg wet tumbler? First of all I got a free $100 gift certificate to MidwayUSA which sells the Thumler. I'm wondering if it's worth paying the extra for the Biggdawg because it's so much better, last longer, holds more, won't rust, etc? Anyone have experience with any of them or hopefully both? It doesn't really matter to me how shiny it gets but more for cleaning the primer pockets on the rifle cases.

The Thumbler and medium Biggdawg ($405) says they can do up to 15lbs.

Thumbler's Model B - $183.99 - $100 = $83.99

Biggdawg -  Ranges from $350-$429 not including up to a couple hundred in upgrade options.

Frankford Arsenal Platinum - $179.99 - $100 = $79.99

General Discussion / Jesse Ventura Wins 1.8mil against Chris Kyle
« on: July 30, 2014, 10:50:56 AM »
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2014/07/29/jesse-ventura-wins-1-8-million-in-damages-against-chris-kyle-slain-navy-seal-sniper/

What do you think about it? This is what I gathered so far. Jesse asked Kyle while he was alive to admit he lied about the issue. If so he will drop the lawsuit and that Kyle would have to pay for Jesse's attorney fees. Kyle refused. Then Kyle was murdered (hmm). Jesse continues to sue since he is a public figure and said he lost out on past, current, and possible future jobs. He sues Kyle's estate and not Kyle's wife. Isn't that almost the same as that money would have went to the wife? IDK? Anyways Jesse wins 1.8 million. Correct me if I'm wrong with any info. I'm not picking a side so don't flame me.

General Discussion / Using Camera as a spotting scope
« on: July 29, 2014, 01:34:55 PM »
Anyone uses a camera or camcorder for their spotting scope? Canon is going to release a point-and-shoot camera with 30x or 42x Optical zoom. Supposed to sell for $250 or $400 for the higher model. You think this would work just as good as a entry to mid level spotting scope? At least with a camera you can use it for other purposes than just shooting or looking at birds. Only downside I see is it uses batteries.

Reloading / Brass not getting clean
« on: July 26, 2014, 10:33:23 AM »
It's loaded with half walnut and half corn media since I didn't buy enough the 1st time. I've done about 3-4 thousand rounds already and this is my last batch which is .338. I've ran it multiple time for about 5hrs but the neck is still dirty. I've also tried the Nu finish polish with dryer sheets. Is my media too used up and dirty already? How do you tell when it's time to change media?

Firearms and Accessories / Adding weight to synthetic stock?
« on: July 25, 2014, 07:36:55 PM »
We have a Remington 700 SPS .308 Win which has a synthetic plastic stock. I would like to reduce the recoil a little bit more for my wife. It already has a brake and recoil pad. I heard that you can reduce recoil a little by adding weight. What do you think would be a good way on doing this? I read about adding sand, BBs, lead, and molding clay. About how much weight should I add for it to make a difference? I don't mind if it's heavy as it's only for bench rest shooting. Also I would prefer the weight to be removable if possible as we will be getting another stock in the future.

Also no sarcastic comments please. I come here for advice and don't need the crap.  :shaka:

The whole butt stock is hollow which is a lot of space to fill.

General Discussion / Anyone painted their rubber butt pad?
« on: July 21, 2014, 09:39:18 PM »
I heard that vinyl spray paint may work on rubber recoil pads. I want to paint my limbsaver from black to coyote. Anyone tried this and how well did it stick? What type of paint did you use?
