I completed hunter-ed paid course on dec 26, 2023. Still waiting for my hunters education card from DLNR, 6 weeks later. Card was supposed to be sent to me within 1-3 weeks.

I completed mine in Nov and no card yet.  I guess I should call and follow up

Can we even apply for a pistol permit in Jan?  I thought we will be forced to go through the training/classes again.  Of course, is there any certified instructors given the new criteria?

============
pdf file attached
This was taken from the city website and I hope it is correct.

My first target was a little low because I didn’t account for the stand going into the pipe.  My mistake, I should have built it 6” taller.  They were measuring when the change was first implemented but not sure if they’re that strict nowadays

I wouldn’t hold your breath on the silhouette side reopening.  They won’t let us shoot steel on the rifle side…how would they allow steel targets on the silhouette side?  I doubt the club wants to clean up or build berms.  As it stands the pistol & rifle is open…that seems to satisfy the majority of users.

General Discussion / Re: Hawaii gun buy back soon

Is the consensus that the buy back program is a bad thing?  I see it as good, especially because it’s an option and totally voluntary.  Transferring firearms to strangers might be a hassle to some.  My friends 88 yr old grandmother was left with some firearms.  She doesn’t know anything about guns and my friend didn’t want to get involved.  Sat in a safe for yrs.  I’d think something like this would be great for them????

What's the best way to store ammo?  I got some in ammo cans with desiccant bags and some vacuum sealed.  Do you think they'll be fine 2-3 yrs from now?  Got some 223, 9mm, and a bunch of 22.

When my wife shoots with me we normally shoot on bench for 5-6 relays.  First time slot is under my name and the next time slot is under hers.  Maybe get multiple tour employees registering for consecutive time slots???

Are they out their measuring stands to make sure you aren't 3" too short?

There’s a mark on the wall when you check in.  I’ve seen them tell shooters to take the bottom target off when it’s too low.  It’s just easier to extend the frame.

Haven’t been to kokohead since it’s reopened. Is the rifle side target frames way longer in size now?
“** Effective Saturday, June 3, 2023: For rifle range targets, center of lowest target must be at least 5 feet from the ground.”
That’s taller than my previous entire target stand.

I guess I’m just venting…or hoping the measurements provided are incorrect.

https://www.honolulu.gov/rep/site/dpr/pmrs_docs/Rifle_Range_target_frame_April_2023_Koko_Head_Shooting_Complex.pdf

Assuming this design would be sufficient.  Seen a target frame someone was selling that was over 7’.

Don’t make my mistake…my first frame had the lowest target at 5’…I didn’t take into account that the frame legs would sit into the pipe.  It’s closer to 7’6” now

Firearms and Accessories / Re: Torque wrenches

I have both the “Fat Wrench” and fix it sticks.  Not sure on the accuracy of either.  If mounted multiple scopes using the fat wrench and haven’t had issues.  I’ve been using the fix it sticks on just one rifle without issue so far.

They need full time rangemaster qualified personnel.

Thats exactly what I heard.  They had more ROs training last weekend.  Glad the C&C hired more personnel.  Just need a qualified range master.  One more request…allow cancellations of appointments.  without that option there’s going to be empty benches

The range almost always has open benches…Sunday morning 8am, pistol may be full.  I always see open benches on the rifle side

Heard they are hiring some ROs.  They are in the process of onboarding now and will start training.  Hopefully they’ll start to open weekdays in a couple of months.  Maybe start with only one weekday for now.  I think the biggest hurdle is finding a range master and assistant.  That might prevent the range from returning to normal hours.

Vudoo 360 action
MPA Matrix Pro chassis or MDT Elite chassis
25”-26” Shilen or Muller straight contour 1.200 barrel
***haven’t decided on the chamber yet
Triggertech diamond or BixnAndy trigger
ABR bag rider

There’s a few gunsmiths/shops that I just started talking to.  If not Vudoo action, I might go the Rim X route.

Glad to see the project finally come together.  Hope it shoots as good as it looks.  Now you need the wind to cooperate a little.  I’m still contemplating the next build…instead of buying another rifle from Vudoo I think I’m going full custom…just going take the plunge.

Talked to Jennifer…one more shipment for 2023 shipping in July.  There’s some changes and she’ll need to work out details on how future moves could be arranged.  Hopefully she can continue the service

Anyone heard from Kaleo Arms recently.  Their website changed and I don’t see any ammo or reference to shipping to Hawaii.  I was looking at possibly ordering some ammo and shipping over.

If there’s no system to cancel reservations then they shouldn’t penalize.  We’re forced to reserve slots 5 days in advance.  Personally, my schedule is fluid and constantly changing…I make reservations and would like to cancel sometimes but there’s no way to do so.  If you want to shoot just show up and go in the wait list…that’s what plenty people do.
