General Discussion / "Police officers are civilians with guns"
« on: July 05, 2018, 03:23:16 PM »
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/las-vegas-shooting-video-cordell-hendrex-mandalay-bay-hotel-attack/

I was waiting for someone else to start a topic about this story but no one did. Apparently there were various teams of police and security guards present during the bumpfire Vegas shooting but they just hid and didn't do anything.

"Police officers are civilians with guns. The notion that they can spring into action and take on a mass murderer who is running up the body count is probably something you can't ask."

General Discussion / my house was burglarized this morning
« on: January 15, 2018, 03:39:57 PM »
My house is targeted more than average due to the location (the chronic avocado and breadfruit thieves do not help either -- the police even catch one in the act a year, on average). It's been about ten years since the last full break-in, not counting a time my neighbors and I found a burglar (with sack of loot from other houses) while he was still in the yard. Every time, I've been able to get the license plate and a face-to-face look at the intruders, but never fully captured one. Fortunately they took very little, I guess I showed up in time. A police report was filed but it never seems to do anything.

I guess I should consider myself lucky that I'm 3-for-3 at catching each burglar in the act, but I'm 0-for-2 at having one leave my house in handcuffs (or an ambulance) and getting my stuff back.

www.cnbc.com/2017/03/10/harvard-law-school-is-making-a-major-change-to-its-admissions-policy.html

It's already known that Harvard has become a corrupt institution that suppresses free speech. This new policy makes it obvious. Anyone can get in now if you have the right politics or a fat enough wallet.

They give two publicly stated reasons for dropping the lawyer exam. 1) It costs too much. Yeah, right. A $200 exam costs too much, when tuition is 1000x more. 2) They want more Math and Science guys to become lawyers, and they don't want people to have to study for the LSAT. I don't think so, considering that Math and Science majors have the highest score on the LSAT by a wide margin and don't even have to study for it! Meanwhile, guess who has the lowest LSAT scores? (Answer: police, lawyers, therapists, and teachers).

I'm not necessarily against this policy but they better automatically be admitting everyone with a Math or (real) Science degree who applies.

This is a serious incident but for some inappropriate reason I find it amusing. Anyway, this pretty much mirrors the Kaepernick incidents we have all been debating. For all we know it could have been inspired by it and performed deliberately.

This time, the government did intervene and fire/suspend the teacher. Which on the surface clearly violates the First Amendment. Going further, the content of the "speech" that got this teacher fired was advocacy of the First Amendment itself! However as I have claimed earlier, our government lately has been trampling (haha) on First Amendment rights so in all likelihood the courts today would uphold this suspension.

Off Topic / Kansas State Students Expelled For Snapchat Post

This sort of occurrence is ramping up, as judges have been ruling in favor of universities in these cases. There are many unique articles on this incident but details on the actual alleged expulsion are still a bit scarce.

I detest sovereign immunity in America (the 11th Amendment) but this is foreign sovereign immunity. Why do people think they can sue a foreign country?

Probably most of us have had this happen to us where the shell casing goes into the back of your shirt. One time I found a spent shell casing in my car, that was not my own (wrong caliber). I presume a shell from someone next to me had landed on my head without me knowing it.

Political Discussion / Transgender students in locker rooms

Someone made a  thread on this earlier but I can't find it anymore. Anyway, here's the same situation, but in reverse this time: http://www.latimes.com/local/education/la-me-transgender-locker-20160211-story.html

"My son came home from school and told me there was a girl using the boys' locker room."

Off Topic / Steve Sarkisian sues USC over firing

I think the whole disability thing is usually overblown. It's almost ridiculous to me how it is being used here. Fortunately, the second link seems to suggest to me that USC should be able to legally prevail in this dispute.

edit: whoops!!

Black teens kill a homeless white person with hammers in a populated area in plain daylight, in front of store cameras. No media.
