I literally read the exact opposite -- in the comment just before yours.

    :geekdanc:

"The employee restroom is located in a secured area of the department that requires access via an employee key card."

--Chief Raybuck's public statement

You really ought to consider hiring a fact checker to vet your comments before posting.

I'll do it for $100/week.  Right now, I'm doing it post submission for free anyway.

How hard could the job be when 80% of your posts are opinions and off-topic arguments, while the rest are either verifiably false or patially true?

"an officer found it in the men’s restroom located in the Chief’s lobby."

AND

"The email went on to say the restroom in question is not public but “an employee restroom that is located behind a secured entryway that requires key card access issued to department employees.”

It’s a claim the police union disputes, saying members of the public are frequently in the area."

You got any sources for that police union claim?

Did the police union also say whether people without an employee badge (i.e. 'the public') are allowed unescorted access?

Reminds me of my favorite Sesame Street character

Go call Hawaii News Now if you want their source. I am not going to play that game with you.

A simple "No" would have sufficed, unless you're implying HNN was your source.

You're stating facts that don't seem to be supported by any news articles you can name, so I'm guessing you made it up.

He's trying to play the "google" game and is doesn't know how. I'm basing this on your research on the matter.

When i watch a video and/or read a news item, it gets saved in my browser history.  Not a problem going back and searching the history to find the source for what i'm sharing.

I guess this is more evidence he only logs in from work, where the browser history is cleared so his bosses can't tell what he's been spending their labor costs on.

Of course, it's also possible he just does a web search, scans the results for a blurb that sounds like what he was needing to find, and he never actually clicks the link to read or watch what it points to.  This would explain all the times he's posted links to things that actually contradicts the point he was arguing.

“We felt the chief was going out of his way to give the impression that the restroom is in a secure area. That it’s only accessed by KPD employees,” said SHOPO spokesperson Dustin DeRollo.

“That in fact is not true. Actually it couldn’t be further from the truth.”

The restroom in question is located in the chief’s lobby.

“They buzz you in. The door pops open. You walk in,” said DeRollo.

“That restroom is accessible to members of the public throughout the day, whether it be school children there for a visit. Delivery drivers, witnesses, people of interest, suspects. The restroom was not locked. It does not require a key card.”

The letter states KPD staff working in the Department’s Investigative Services Division refer visitors “to use the public restroom where the chief left his firearm unattended.”
“Any of those kids who may have had to go to the bathroom that day would have complete access to that restroom,” DeRollo told HNN Investigates. “If they would have done it March 4, what they would have found there was an abandoned KPD Glock pistol fully loaded ready to fire.”

Thanks.  Nice to get a complete story instead of just the few sentences/phrases someone decided are important enough to share.

I try to include the links for most of what I share so anyone wanting to dive deeper isn't having to start from square one.

It's a courtesy thing.

So, the restroom is open to the public.

I wonder what would happen to a CCW holder if they left their gun in a restroom that has the same access?

Its not his fault. His gun wouldn't have been reported lost AND found if the other officers didn't find it...

So the pic that the media is using is a G43X. Does KPD carry this on their duty belt?  It's probably the chiefs CCW gun and he was not in uniform at the time.  So, refer back to my post above about "what would happen if a CCW holder did this?".

The media are not "gun people" on average.  They use stock photos that others created, often from in-house, just to avoid copyright problems.

Whoever chose that photo probably wasn't thinking "Maybe I should ask what model firearm the chief lost this time so I get the right picture."

According to a complaint filed with the Kauai Police Commission,
Chief Todd Raybuck seems to be making a habit out of leaving
his service weapon in the same stall of the same restroom.

A complaint submitted to the Kauai Police Commission went on to
say the officer discovered it “in a holster wedged between
the wall and the handicap assist bar.”

So, service weapon means it was issued, and in a holster means the entire holster was separated from his belt.  Could be using a pancake style holster that can be lifted off, or a QLS clip that allows the holster to be easily removed.

I think it's a stretch to guess he was in pain clothes with a concealed weapon.

All the photos I see have him wearing a duty belt with mag and cuff pouches and a large holster.  So I would lean more toward a removable holster versus a CC.

Rather than try to change the behavior, why not spend a little money and install lockers outside the restroom?  Anyone knowing they are going #2 would be able to secure their weapons at the door.  I doubt anyone is going to need a firearm while in a police station restroom!

I have a different conclusion.  If KPD uses the same holsters that HPD uses, then they're bulky Safariland and would be very difficult to wedge between the bar.  A Kydex or leather IWB CCW holster can fit easily.

My 2nd reason why I assume this is because I know cops (HPD) who needed to take a shit, and they end up taking off their entire duty belt and hang it if there's a coat hanger clip in the stall.  If there's no clip to hang the entire belt on, then they just drop trow.

You are correct that the media does use wrong pictures often, but based on my other 2 guesses, I think they used the correct pic.

IDK if KPD uses QLS or not. I also haven't looked up what KPD's list of approved CCW handguns are.  HPD has theirs online and even allows a revolver.

But either way, the above was just to point something out, but it's not like it really matters.

What matters more are that the 2 detectives involved feel like they're being discriminated against. 1 for being denied to take a continuing education class on the mainland for hostage negotiation, and the other for bomb defusal class that's needed for him to continue to do bomb defusal type stuff..  Both were denied due to "manpower shortage".  But when both looked up the shortage, there is none during those dates.
