I can't figure out what caliber that was loaded in to make that shape.

My contribution.  Don't shoot corroded ammo.  And don't shoot lots of corroded ammo to practice misfire drills.

Story on these is a guy got a free case of ammo from a friend which got wet.  They were shooting em and practicing misfire drills.  I saw around 30 cases on the ground, half fired, half not fired with primer strikes.  Some fired ones had holes and cracks in the case.  I pulled a few bullets and the powder was moist.

He got lucky and the gun didn't explode.  Not sure if he had squibs.

....
Don't worry about the details. It was just wrong.

Re. Corroded ammo. The misfired rounds ejected on the ground tells me that the folks practicing misfire drills were unsafe. They were just clearing a dud as fast as possible with no regard to a possible hang-fire.

If you do misfire drills you need to use a dummy round. Not defective ammo.

That;'s why when I take a skill builder, I'm not so quick to "tap/rack".  I wait a few seconds, then tap/rack.

Also, I never shoot ammo I find on the ground.  I know guys who do this, but inspect it first.  But still, why risk it. Plus, IDK what I'm looking at if I were to inspect the round. Above my paygrade.

I remember watching an episode of BUDS234 and after passing Hell Week, they had their weapons training.  Due to a hang fire safety violation, the SEAL student was dropped because this was a safety violation, which is major.  IDK if he was allowed to retake this portion or had to re-do from the beginning, including having to go thru Hell Week again.

I was in the Navy so we never had restrictions on how much ammo we could carry. I always had as many spare mags as I could get my hands on. Once a week I would unload all and discard any rnds with any sign of corrosion.Another example of an 11yr old boy learning what corroded ammo will do to your equipment and using that lesson later in life.

Please learn how to operate your firearm before going to the range

It's like owning a car.
You take driving lessons to learn how to drive.
If you don't, you get into accidents.
Same with guns. It's common sense.
