What is your hunting setup?
« on: January 21, 2010, 08:51:44 PM »
What kind of rifle do you use?

What kind of scope do you use?

How heavy is your rifle?

Hey octomon,
Do you know many other hunters? I get the feeling that there aren't very many Hawaii hunters on the net.

I have a few friends and you're right, most seem to not hang on the internet. OTOH from what I've been told, the State hunters ed. classes have been filled every month for quite a while, so there are no shortage of local hunters.

kaylorinhi, your Remington setup sounds exactly like what I'd want. Either that or a Savage Model 10FP, or a Marlin XS7, or a Stevens 200 :) all in .308

I would have choosen the Savage, if bought new, but I got a deal I could not beat on it!  I just had to replace my entire scope mounting set-up.  I will post pics and a range report when I get it remounted and sighted-in!

So I remounted my Bushnell, sighted it back in, and got to cleaning when I got home.  I hear a tingling?!?  I find a C-clamp jingling around in my Scope.  So I call Bushnell, who by the way didn't even ask if I was the original buyer or anything, give me the address, printed the form and in two had it back, they even paid to ship it back!

+1 for Bushnell

As for the Savage/Stevens, I just bought my GF a Stevens 200 in .223.  It has a Bushnell 3-9x40 El-Cheapo scope and still gave me 1.25-1.5 groups with my first three shot group at 100y, all that with PMC :P range ammo!  I highly suggest the Stevens for beginners and others who want a plinker or entry-level bolt gun.

I wish some place around here sold the Stevens 200 or Marlin XL7. All the local shops only seem to carry the middle to higher end stuff. And if I import from out-of-state, I'll have to pay shipping and FFL fees :grrr:

It might not be as bad as you think, if you can find a good deal.
Rifles can be sent USPS ffl to ffl, and Al Mongeon only charges like $30.

Thanks Heavies,
I've talked to Al and will definitely use him for any FFL transfers I do. The problem with them, is that it can take a $300 rifle and quickly tack on 20% to that price (Shipping and transfer fees).

Here are some pics from kaylorinhi's set-up:

Did you catch friday??
I went sunday to punaluu and nailed one big boy! 120+ pounds boar, full wild, not bad.  Filled the freezer and had a nice shoulder roast monday evening.

My setup is a 223 sporter, laseraim red dot(cheap) and 45gr JHP.

Tomorrow I'm  going again, gonna try out this new round 55gr PSP.
