aaronc5362,

You got good detective eyes   :shaka:

You right, there are hexagons on the verticals which is the trademark/logo of realavid.

Probably a new product in the near future.

Thanks.  I was searching all over for this stand.

Np sir. Nah just got lucky. Lol

I'll let ya know if I do ever see it somewhere (in the future) of course lol. It does look like a real space saver if I can fold it like a beach chair or something and hang it from my wall or shelf when not in use lol.

Can anybody identify this rifle cradle?

I tried to Google this but come up with botchos (zero).

https://www.realavid.com/product/level-right-pro/

I think real avid makes that vise. If you notice the hexagonal shapes on ther vertical black arms.. Its pretty much their trademark emblem... Isnt it?

I think it might be a prototype or a one off that some engineer that works there made it. The 2 bars that run on the table looks like those tripod / hunting vices tho.

I could be wrong..

Botach sells a 4140 steel reaction rod. I think its calles kleyzion? Its around 50 bucks on eBay. I got 1 several years ago. Its good cause it goes 360 degrees. And it has flat points where it goes into the vice.

I also bought the Midwest URR. this one is better cause it has a extra piece of metal that goes into your charging handle channel. So it in fact has 2 places to prevent twisting.

Barrel blocks can be had for 15 bucks or so off eBay. Or if you have scrap wood like a 2x4 lying around drill a 1/2 - 3/4 inch hole then cut in half. Voila now you got barrel blocks. But I seen gunsmith on yoitube just wrap leather scrap around the barrel and be fine.

Id stay away from aluminum reaction rods. I read enough reviews that people break it. It's surely a hit or miss if your muzzle device will come out easily or not. Depends how much lead/ other crap got in between the threads or how much torque the factory put it at.

My very first muzzle device I removed I uses a plumber wrench , my knees, and a hammer. I had no vice. This was before I was a mechanic. But I already knew its the initial "impact" sort of speak to break anything loose. So I pretty much kneeled , rifle facing forward in between my knees. Put the wrench on and whacked it. Came right off. It was a rra 6.8spc.

Cool.

So boxer primed American steel ammo. Hopefully with cleaner powder as mentioned above.

I guess ak lovers wont have to clean as much anymore.

I think this is their footstep into mass production of all calibers (hopefully). Good for them!!

General Discussion / Re: Silver casing vs brass casing?
« on: October 31, 2021, 01:38:59 AM »
Does it really matter which casing your bullets have? Silver is cheaper, but I’ve heard stories of them destroying guns. Is it worth paying for brass casing?

Brass is always gonna be softer. You want the casing to expand to create a tighter seal. Aka more force going forward rather than back.

Are you talking bout pistols or rifles?

Silver casings are nickel plated brass. Or are you talking bout aluminum? Like cci blazer aluminum?

So far i prob got several hundred or so gdhp (which are nickel plated brass) and prob 100 or so hydrashoks in my g19.4. No problems whatsoever. And I'm sure people have put 1000s upon 1000s of gdhp through their guns. Look up sage dynamics. He almost shoots exclusively gdhp for certain reliability and function tests during his burn downs.

General Discussion / Re: 1911 vs Hi Power vs CZ

Never shot a hi power before. Only shot a couple different 1911s and polymer cz's.

I voted for cz.

Cool tool tho.

I'm cheap. I tape a string with a fishing weight from the ceiling for my vertical line. Learned this from that Alaskan show, meet the Browns... I think that's what it is called. Gravity is free. Ask my tummy

And I use magnetic bubble levels on the rifle.

But what I have found out is that as long as the 2 levels match up (one on a pic rail where your scope is being mounted and 1 on the top cap of your elevation turret) it will be leveled. This works as long as both bubble levels are "calibrated" the same from the get go. It doesnt matter if the bubble is not centered or touching the center line with the edge of the bubble. As long as both are in the same place ..then when you turn your rifle to make the bubble go into the 2 marks of the level then the other (rifle or turret) level will follow. I usually make the bubble edge touch 1 of the lines to make it easier.

Forgot to mention. This works with quality scopes. If you plan on using a 20 dollar scope then the qc on the reticle might just be way off. I like to stick to etched reticles instead of wire. More chance to be shittt from the get go

General Discussion / Re: PERMIT TO ACQUIRE Monday OCT 18th 2021
« on: October 19, 2021, 08:22:42 AM »
Pre-COVID, it was 100% walk-in .... First come - First Serve. No appointments -- not online nor handed out in line.

To add on to flapps comment... There was NO limit. So everything was basically luck of the draw. Ahhh i remember always goin bout 1000 hours and it was almost always dead.

Crap. I hope Wednesday is ok. I get to pick up my pta papers (2 pistols) and my renewed long gun permit. Waited 4 months for this and it just happened to land on my day to pick up.  >:(

General Discussion / Re: Scope 100-200 yards out
« on: October 18, 2021, 03:33:35 PM »
I've used a 3-9 accupoint and 1-4 nxs. The 1-4 I was shooting those old deers on the rightside of kokohead. Iirc it was 200-260 yards?

To hit the 430ish yard gong I had to use the accupoint. My friends could use the acog but they all wore glasses so their eyesight is prob better than mine. I may have hit it with a ta31 (their cogs) but I really dont remember. But being a stationary target we knew where to look at. Now if you told me to find a hog or person walking a line in that distance, I need a 9x power scope minimum.

Forget the lpvo. Get a 3x or 4x cog and offset rds. Could be cheaper or more expensive depending what you get in the end. But I can almost guarantee you it may be lightee than a lpvo set up

« on: October 17, 2021, 12:28:45 PM »
I got a pair of vortex 10x32. 50 yards is good for 5.56 using shoot n c targets. Hundred yards.. Yeahhhhh nope. Lol.

Edit: there was another thread where we talked bout a tnvc pic mount to mount to your tripod( if you already have one that is...)

Lately I been seeing quite a few vortex scopes on sale. I almost impulse purchased one. I think 4-14 was the zoomies. I forget. But I held back cause black Friday is real close. And I usually only shoot at the 50 cause thats my zero. But I guess it would be nice to see at 100.

Can we ask the HPD about extending the active hours for visitors to its garage, and the municipal one west of it? No one wants to get a parking ticket after 5:30 PM.

What time does the downstairs garage, the meter parking close?

The latest ive ever been there was 1300 hours lol.

General Discussion / Register pistol
« on: October 14, 2021, 07:10:02 AM »
Quick question...

I know rifles been subject to covid rules, where the 5 day rule to register has been nullified and you can wait for a very generous amount of time (I.e. until the new online system is up)

Does this apply to pistols too?

I only ask this cause I swear I heard someone at a lgs say they had to register it quickly. Idk if it was the law or he just wanted to do it.

I'm pretty sure ive read it somewhere on here before but cant find it. And the search button isnt being friendly.

Thanks in advance

And of he had a nuke it be even worse.  The tool isn't the issue its the loony who uses it.

Reminds me of that tank in LA. Sure he had no ammo for the big gun, doubt he had a m60 or whatever at the top hatch. But no one could stop it. They just followed until he ran out of gas or gave up. Kinda forgot the ending. Imagine any crazy fuck decided to drive a tank at alas or downtown. Pretty much nothing can stop it. Unless Hawaii's NG accomodates by sending in some tanks to stop that 1 tank lol. Now wouldnt that be a show.

OMG. That's some nasty stuff, lol! ;D

No, it doesn't look like that.  I was inspecting the ammo more closely last night and the discoloration doesn't look like it's from corrosion.  Honestly, the overall appearance of the cartridge makes one think that it's used brass.  Aside from appearance, out of 1 box of 150 I noticed some pinpoint dents and dings on the neck and shoulder on about 15 to 20 of them.

For bulk ammo, do manufacturers utilize used brass?

I shouldn't expect much from bulk ammo, I actually was hoping there were some members who have used this white box ammo before and can attest that what I see is normally what one would get with this type of ammo.

The ammo just looks dated.  Like it was sitting around for a while.  The box itself looks new.  Sorry I don't have a pic, I'll ask my daughter to show me how to post pics, lol!  But the box looks just like the ones you see on Ammo supply websites.

Ah I see I see. Sorry I always stayed clear of wwb. I only got it cause of a trade I did long long time ago. I should inspect it tho lol.  Fwiw, I sometimes got dinged up brass from fiocchi tho. It was brass case x39 ammo. I even got some 9mm ammo that wasnt seated properly from them too lol.
