Off Topic / DIY AI created art
« on: October 20, 2023, 12:03:13 PM »
The AI generated art is amazing.  You can tell it how to make the pictures.  Try it out.  Doesn't get everything right and it blocks things it think are violent or obscene but still cool.

Bing AI - https://www.bing.com/images/create/
(Bing hates guns)

Off Topic / Rob Schneider builds a rifle
« on: October 18, 2023, 08:15:00 AM »
Video of comedian Rob Schneider building his own rifle.  I hear he's a 2A conservative guy which is rare in Hollywood.

I got tickets to see his show at the Blue Note in Waikiki in a couple weeks.  Can't wait!  Hopefully meet with him on the side.

General Discussion / Kids summer camp + guns
« on: October 16, 2023, 01:18:30 PM »
This looks fun, a kids summer camp where they learn to shoot guns and do tactical stuff.  They probably know more about shooting guns that most gun owners here do.

I wonder if kids can opt out of the kill the Jews part.

General Discussion / Israel loosens gun possession laws
« on: October 08, 2023, 11:18:33 AM »
Israel has very strict.gun laws which is perplexing given the constant warfare, terrorism, and being surrounded by anti-israeli nations that want to kill all of them.

To possess a gun there you need to go through many requirements and provide a valid reason for needing a firearm.  Just self defense isn't sufficient.

Once approved, Israelis can possess one pistol and up to 50 rounds of ammo.  Or a long gun based on the purpose such as Olympic shooting, hunting, etc.

They loosened their laws a tad today.

Today I directed the Firearms Licensing Division to go on an emergency operation, in order to allow as many citizens as possible to arm themselves.

The plan will take effect within 24 hours, below are its main points:

1. Any citizen who meets the detailed tests for carrying a private firearm due to self-defense and serving the security forces, and is without a criminal or medical record, will be required to undergo a telephone interview instead of a physical interview, and will be able to receive permission to carry a firearm within a week.

(Self-defense tests: residence in an eligible settlement, rifle veterans 07 and above, officers in the rank of lieutenant and above and combatants in the rank of major and above in the IDF and the security forces, service in special units, firefighters, policemen, and workers and volunteers in the rescue forces).

2. Any citizen who received a conditional permit to purchase a firearm and did not purchase a firearm during the year 2023 and the conditional license has expired, will be able to purchase a firearm now without the need to submit another application. The exemption will apply to about 4000 citizens.

3. Any citizen who deposited his weapon in the last six months due to failure to perform refresher training or renewal training, will be able to receive his weapon back. The exemption will apply to about 1800 citizens.

4. In addition, starting next Tuesday, conditional permits to carry firearms will be issued with a permit allowing the purchase of up to 100 bullets instead of 50 today.

All this in addition to the criteria change that should happen soon.

I thank the members of the Firearms Licensing Division, the Civil Response Department of the Israel Police and the employees of the Ministry of Health for the very important commitment that will allow as many citizens as possible to arm themselves and protect themselves and their environment when necessary.

Health, Fitness, and First Aid / Free NARCAN
« on: October 05, 2023, 07:32:37 PM »
I just placed an online order for a couple of doses of Narcan to treat fentanyl overdose.  It's free, mailed to you, and you could save a life.  It's easy to get fentanyl poisoning by breathing it in or touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with traces of it.  Especially handy for first responders and those that deal with the homeless and drug users.

Legal and Activism / Hunter Biden gun charges
« on: September 19, 2023, 02:32:26 PM »
FPC has offered to help Hunter Biden with his gun charges.  The lying on the form and possessing a gun while using drugs should be struck down under the 2nd.

This could also lead to other things.  Removing the State questionaire when buying a gun or getting CCW on 2A and self incrimination grounds.  Banning gun possession when not under the influence is also a 2A violation, like with medical marijuana.

General Discussion / Ukumehame range closed
« on: September 05, 2023, 09:56:25 PM »
Learned that FEMA is using the Maui range as a dumping ground for Lahaina toxic waste.  Guess cause it's already contaminated with lead.  Expected to close the range for 3 to 5 months.

Off Topic / Waikiki Safe and Sound worked!
« on: September 05, 2023, 01:22:27 PM »
So I guess it worked, less crime in Waikiki!

Decrease in assault cases by 4%
Decrease in burglary cases by 31%
Decrease in criminal property damage cases by 28%
Decrease in theft overall by 6%

Doesn't sound that dramatic a decrease to me.

So 2 questions:
1.  Did they just kick out the crime to other places?
2.   Why isn't this done in all places all the time.

Oahu Search and Rescue Kaiwi 5k Run/Walk Oct 28th

As many of you know, I will be stepping down as the President and Director of HIFICO to pursue other endeavors, one being Search and Rescue.    I've returned to doing volunteer SAR from my past experience in the Hing Cerfp.  OSAR promotes outdoor safety and finds missing persons like lost hikers and the elderly that wander off.  OSAR is entirely funded with donations from the community.

If I've helped you with gun stuff in the past, you can return the favor and run this race with me.  It has always been my goal to unite the public and gun owners to support the 2A through community events such as this.  $40 gets you in with a nice T-Shirt.  If you have a business, you help sponsor this event starting from $250 and up.

General Discussion / Followup to SD shooting Haleiwa Joes 2018
« on: August 31, 2023, 09:55:01 AM »
Insightful article on the Haleiwa Joes shooting in 2018 where a father and son died, and the third shooter was wounded.

That third shooter, 20 year old,  was seen as shooting in self defense, but was still charged for carrying, and turned federal informant in the Miske case

Lots of background into the case.

Strategies and Tactics / ASP Bibles & Bullets Conf 2023
« on: August 30, 2023, 07:33:39 PM »
I signed up for the Active Self Protection - Bibles and Bullets Conference hosted by John Correia and Flint Hills Foster Camp.  This is a weekend of self -defense training on Sept 29-Oct 1st in Manhattan, Kansas.  Lead national instructors volunteered to teach classes in self-defense tactics, OC spray, handgun, psychology and many others.  This will be my first time attending, third for Soleil.  I forgone the option to sleep in the dorms and will instead be pitching a tent under the stars

The conference costs $600 which is fully donated to the foster camp and space is still available.  I got a rental car and an extra tent for anyone that wants to join us.  https://activeselfprotection.com/asp-national-conference-bullets-and-bibles-2023/

Here's the class options.  Some beginner, some advanced.  Class registration just started so I'll see what I get in a couple weeks.

Political Discussion / Desantis stance on looters & 2A
« on: August 30, 2023, 11:55:48 AM »
That's my man.  He has good speeches and quotes once in a while, like "Florida is where woke goes to die".  And great on the policies and emergency responses.  Just needs more energy.

DeSantis on potential looters after Idalia: 'You never know what's behind that door'

"People have a right to defend their property," DeSantis said at a late-afternoon briefing. "In this part of Florida, you've got a lot of advocates and proponents of the 2nd Amendment, and I've seen signs in different people's yards in the past after these disasters [that say] 'You loot, we shoot.' You never know what's behind that door."

Off Topic / Biases, you can't prove a theory true
« on: August 28, 2023, 07:32:09 PM »
A good video to explain biases and how they work.  Essentially you can never prove a theory true. Instead you have to try and disprove a theory and if you can't, then the theory is closer to being true.

General Discussion / Molokai trip
« on: August 08, 2023, 06:02:28 PM »
Went to Molokai to work this week on Mokulele Air.  I had my handgun in a locked pistol case inside of my luggage and ammo.  Lady had no clue how to process it, had to check around, and still wasn't sure.  I waited 30 minutes for her to figure it out.

She asked me to clear the handgun at the counter so I reluctantly did. She had no idea what she was looking for.

Then she said the firearm has to be separate from the luggage, and wanted to charge me an extra $35 sporting equipment charge.  I declined as that's usually for separate rifle cases.

So she asked me to attach the handgun case to the outside of the luggage.  I'm like WTF but I'm like screw it whatever I'm tired of waiting.  I strap it with my belt and tape.

After all my travels with firearms, this was a new experience surpassing the Delta zipties.
.
Molokai is a nice relaxing place with a lot of good scenery and small town experience.  Visited the only retail gun store in town.  Police dept only process firearms on MWFs, there are no firearm instructors teaching on the island, and one accessable private firearms range.

General Discussion / Riccochet testing
« on: July 27, 2023, 07:40:01 PM »
Cool video on high speed camera on pistol ricochets on steel plate

Bullet will significantly fragment at angles less than 45 degrees.  At 45 degrees most of the bullet stays together.  At 60 degrees, the bullet has significant penetration post ricochet.  At 75 degrees, the bullet is mostly intact and retains most of it's energy.

Also note the departure angle is very shallow and hugs the wall.  Which is why you keep your distance from cover so you don't get a ricochet to the face.

Health, Fitness, and First Aid / Wilderness First Aid Course 8-5-23
« on: July 10, 2023, 10:32:53 AM »
A Wilderness First Aid course will be held on August 5th.  It's a hybrid course, 8 hours online and 10 hours at Bellows on the 5th, and costs $200.  This course teaches you advanced aid techniques like using a tourniquet, splints, litters, environmental injuries, etc.  Basically it teaches you treat and aid a victim when emergency responders are far away.

This is a good course for outdoors men, firearms users, hunters etc and has a lot more content than stop the bleed which is only a 2 hours course.  Stop the Bleed used to be offered for free, but I haven't seen any courses offered since the beginning of COVID.   $200 is cheap for a course like this.

General Discussion / KHSC Kramer Range Report
« on: June 28, 2023, 10:56:20 AM »
This was being passed around a few months ago but I didn't post it as I wasn't sure if it was for public release.  Just noticed its linked on the KHSC page now.

https://www.honolulu.gov/rep/site/dpr/pmrs_docs/Koko_Head_Shooting_Complex_Safety_Health__Environmental_Recommendations_-_Parks__Recreation_Feb_2023.pdf

These are the recommendations from the range consultants hired by the city.  Most of it is industry standard stuff and explains why things are the way they are.  Give it a good read and promote safe practices at the range.

Honolulu recently allocated $2.3 million for range improvements in 2024 to continue working on these recommendations.

Preparedness and Survival / Water filter test
« on: June 23, 2023, 06:40:47 PM »
Good article explaining the different types of water filters for survivalists and the different water hazards:  bacteria, virus, protozoa.  One of the main threats in Hawaii is Leptospirosis, a bacteria found in many Hawaii streams but usually not found on the mainland.  It has a 0.1micron width similar to the size of a large virus., so most filters do not filter it out.  The Lifestraw Personal (0.2 micron filter) seems to be popular but does not filter out lepto making it useless in Hawaii.

I personally use the Grayl Ultrapress and Steripen UV light, and as backups, have a small isobutane and fuel tab stove to boil water along with water purification tablets.

They test many different types of popular filters and compare them.

Legal and Activism / The CRA and HJ44 Pistol Brace
« on: June 13, 2023, 11:43:48 AM »
HJ44 is a Congressional resolution to repeal the ATFs new rule regulating pistol braces.  It just passed the House.

What's more interesting is the Congressional Review Act (CRA).  This allows congress to repeal rules made by an agency and was used in this case.  It requires the resolution to be passed by the House and Senate, and cannot be filibustered, so just needs to pass with 51 votes in the Senate.  Also the President is not involved.  So this could actually happen.

This couldve been applied to bump stocks at the federal level too.
