I'm going to start an AR10 build. Do you guys have any advice on lowers and uppers?

First decide on what it's intended purpose is for (hunting or target shooting). If you are just building a blaster or hunter you don't need it to be particularly accurate, then I'd go with a DPMS spec rifle as parts, mags, accessories are cheaper and more readily available.

If you want a target shooting rifle, then it's no fun shooting 2-3" groups on your best day. For ultimate accurate rifle I would use a Noveske N6 barrel, ArmaLite spec lower and go from there.

The .40S&W barrel does not fit into the small hole in the slide of a Glock 17/19/26 (9mm).

There are conversion barrels out there for .40S&W pistols (Glock 22/23/27) that allow you to shoot 9mm WITH the conversion barrel (.40 to 9mm) AND the 9mm magazine. With the conversion barrel you don't need to change the internals.

Hahaha yeah I kept looking at it and it kept whispering sweet nothings in my ear.... It's only $350 at XRing... It's like buying it with no shipping charge....

For $279 you can get a Geissele 2 stage match trigger. I have "clocked" split times (controlled pairs) of .19sec shot-to-shot. Under "normal" use, it gives you an ultra light trigger for your match rifle.

I dont even know what the bin is for and all the times ive been there ive only seen 1 person use it.  I guess a experienced person would know how to use it, but for new guys like me i have no idea.  When i go down i just rack it a few times then open the slide and hand it over.  Not sure if that is correct or not.

Sometimes the officers can come across as dicks though.  Or maybe just that HPD personality.  Doesnt mean they should be getting flagged by everyone trying to clear their gun though.

You are supposed to place the muzzle of your firearm in the "bin" when you make it clear and safe. The "bin"  will catch a discharged round in the event that a negligent discharge should occur.

It will not, however save your eardrums should a firearm go off....

Would someone please make the Firearms Unit a sign with directions how to use the clearing bin. Some folks think it's a trash can   I've seen people flag the officers, look at their pistol and dry fire it at the window

Yeah true story. First term set all the people into place. Second term use those people to pass laws.

He has been trying to get his people into the ATF. Go to "YouTube" and look up ATF abuse.

Competition / Re: MPPL or HPS
« on: June 30, 2011, 01:29:20 AM »
July 3rd at 8:30am is MPPL's IPSC 101 Class date. I'd recommend getting there at least 15min early to find the match director who will be teaching the 101 class.

All 3 of the clubs here are associated with USPSA, unfortunately many years ago someone complained that we should not be shooting IPSC due to the fact that you start from a concealed carry position and we do not have concealed carry here in Hawaii.

MPPL:  Great club to start shooting with, they also have rifle and shotgun side matches as well.

HPS:  More of an IPSC style club where you shoot at smaller triangle shaped targets. It's also more of a run & gun style shooting club where most of the stages are assault type stages where you are advancing at your targets.

Honolulu Rhat Rhat Boyz:  Most of the current members of this club shoot "Open" guns" so it wouldn't be as competitive if you are the only one shooting in the "Production" or "Limited" class. This club is also more IPSC style club where you shoot at smaller triangle shaped targets.

You may want to read on the USPSA rules & regs to be more familiar with the different classes of pistols, etc. See website below.

It seems like I have to take time off from work to go to any shop as their hours seem to match my work hours and none reopen on Sunday. What's up with that?

I feel your pain brotha. When I first moved here from the mainland and just started getting back into the sports the first thing I did was look up all the shops and go to all of them. As a consumer at the time all the shops  :closed: at 5pm, HPD firerams closes at 4pm, limited gun shop hours on Saturday and most closed on Sunday, not to mention I could count the number of shops on one hand, I was shocked! So those of us who had a 9-5pm job were not allowed to buy firearms in this state I guess  ???  So I went every Saturday until I visited all of them and had to take the day off to get them registered.   :grrr:

I wish I could vote more times for the Waikiki Gun Shop guy. That guy is such a fucking asshole, that it actually becomes hilarious. He'll say something like, "sign here and here and here". Then he'll stare at you as you wonder what you're supposed to do next. When you don't know, he has attitude. It's SO unnecessary and out of the blue, I swear to god he's autistic. I regret paying the $200 or so charge for taking his course, or FFL'ing him twice for out of state purchases.

*Edit*
If I remember correctly, his name is Eugene, or something like that.

The handgun safety course I taught at Waikiki Gun Shop was $85, when you sign an ATF form you sign your name only once. At the time we had one of the lowest FFL transfer fees of $40 per firearm, not like some of the shops who simply refused to do them.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience, wish you would have said something at the time so that I could have improved your shopping experience.
