UT and AZ permits are much easier because they do not require in state training like NV does.  You can get those permits in HI and use it in NV.  IIRC Rocky is taking registrations for an upcoming class.

On AZ's website for a CCW permit, they do not state whether the certificate for firearm training can be from another state, like HI. Assuming they do accept the Affidavit of Certified Firearms Education Course (HI) from an NRA Certified Instructor, do we mail AZ a xerox copy or notarized copy of our afficavit? I assume the fingerprints can be obtained from HPD using approved fingerprint cards. Does this mean the whole process can be completed without even setting foot in the mainland state (AZ or UT)?

For the earlier question about the security of hotel safes, this video shows that it is basically non-existent.

HPD will not do fingerprints...

Both UT & AZ will accept an out of state training certificate.  NV will not. I got all 3 in 2015 by taking a course at Front Sight.  Because of the Covid restrictions in 2020 I did not go to NV to renew my NV permit but did renew the AZ and UT permits by mail.

Correct, NV requires a class from an approved list of instructors. The list is on the Metro website.

Luckily, NV accepts reciprocity with AZ. But just be aware of school zones.  The NV renewal class is 4hrs, and the regular one for new or expired CCW holders is 8hrs.  LMK if you need a referral of who I went to.

I forgot to add, that my wardrobe changed due to CCWing. A PITA, but worth the extra humbug to carry and exercise freedom.

Mine has changed as well. But also due to changes in weather for me being up at 5,000 feet. So my carry options changed because of my wardrobe change as well. You have to work within your means.

Do people in AZ bother getting their CCW? The only benefit that I can see is the school zone thing.

Google provided a link to a fingerprinting service (Print and Sign Hawaii, listed on National Background Information referral site) in HI.

https://www.nbinformation.com/locations/lawEnforcement/HI.php

They have an office on Queen St. The question is whether AZ or UT will accept a fingerprint card generated by P&SH?

There is also a place in Restaurant Row that does it. Others have gone there and it has been accepted.  I'm sure P&SH will be accepted also. Basically what they don't want is for you to DIY.

If I lived in ANY constitutional carry state,  I would still get their permit for reciprocal agreements with other states.  Unless it changed recently,  I believe the UT non resident permit is accepted in NV.  As for the school thing, I have driven pass many schools while carrying and who would know unless you used your weapon in that zone.

If anything, it would be an add on charge. When I last checked into it, in like 2017 or 18, there were about 60 people nationwide charged with violating the school zone law. Many were felons and add on charges. But 1 guy wasn't. he was busted for tint and 996 feet from a school zone. He was fighting it in court last time I looked it up years ago. IDK the outcome.

OMG YES!!! There is a huge advantage here having your CCW. Only form I have to fill out is the 4473. That’s it. They forego the background check and all other paperwork because I have the AZ CCW. It literally took me 5-6 minutes to walk in, tell them which gun I want. I hand them my license and CCW. They type in my name and address etc. They bring up the 4473 on their computer. All I do is a few mouse clicks and I am done. Hand them my credit card, they run it and I walk out of the store with my gun. Without the CCW I have all the other forms to fill out and I have to wait for the background check(s). And who knows if the FBI is backed up with background checks or not.

The training center I go to always have their CCW classes filled with a waiting list. If you only buy one gun every 5 years then it probably isn’t worth it just for that. I got mine for that reason but also NV and UT reciprocity with the AZ permit. But UT just recently went permit less as well. So not really applicable for that any more. I have heard rumors that if an AZ officer pulls you over for a minor infraction and you show him your CCW he may let you go without a ticket. But that is only a rumor I heard. I don’t want to test it out.

I think the difference is AZ Resident vs. Non-Resident permits.  An AZ resident with a permit can buy guns easier and have one to present to out-of-state LE where they honor the AZ permit.  For a HI resident, it's just for travel outside of HI to places that accept an AZ permit while carrying concealed.  Some places, like Vegas night clubs and casinos, will often ask for a second form of ID if they think your drivers license look sketchy.  A CCW permit with your photo is a good backup ID in those cases.

Just because you live in a state with permit-less/constitutional carry doesn't mean you will never have a need for a permit.

Update.

Went back to Vegas again and carried again.

1) The woman killed at Fashion Show mall, she forgot her mask in the car. So her husband went back to grab it for her. Once she was alone is when the 2 guys attacked.  Also my firearms instructor who lives here, his sister in law in Vegas was robbed by the same guy back in September 2021. So this isn't their first rodeo.

2) After carrying again so close to the last time, I would prefer a smaller pistol.  Not a fan of the SIG P365 due to the mush trigger and no trigger safety, but maybe a smaller Glock or a S&W Shield.  Like I posted above, when you carry a once  a year, pistol size doesn't really matter too much. But carrying daily is a different story.  And since it was still cold, the jacket hides lots.

3) While we were there, it was also Shot Show. We got an offer to go thru A Girl and A Gun organization, but declined. Prior to COVID, shot show grud was a thing. So I wouldn't want to add that plus Covid. But in looking back, we should have accepted because it was way emptier than normal.  Like almost eerie empty. Some vendors pulled out like SIG and Colt. They had booths with their names on it, but no items or staff.  It was good to see my kind of people up there.  And although casino's don't allow guns, there were some who were CCWing.  Venetian didn't enforce as much as I thought they would. In fact, this trip, I saw even less security walking the floor.

The demographic of this trip was mainly haole's.  Compared to December when it was mainly Chinese, like 80% and all ages/generations. It's funny cause the majority look this time was trucker hats, beards, 5.11 cargo pants, and backpacks with MOLLE loops on them.  We did feel safer with all these law abiding citizens around and self defense like minded people.  What I was disappointed in was that we didn't see any famous people like Warrior Poet, John Correa, Rudy Reyes, etc...The bar at the Venetian was the after party. Super packed and I looked thru the patrons and saw no one I recognized.

4)  On a non 2a note, what was cool was I was playing Let it Ride at Harrahs. 1 guy on our table hit a straight flush. He won $73,000 progressive.  And because we were on the same table, we got an envy payout of $1,500.  But 1 guy wasn't playing the progressive so he didn't get the envy payout.  The casino paid the winner in chips. He also decided to take tax out of $17,000, which they took. He then walked to the cashier and made a check for the $50K+. This was a sight to see, because I hear of stuff like this, but never see it in person.  1 wonders if I sat down next to him, I could have won this.  But in this case he was seating in position #1, so there was no way to sit before him and get the hand.  He tipped the dealer $1K and the guy who lost out on the envy payout $500. If it were me, I would also tip every player on the table $1K (3 of us). Because the envy payout is from the casino, not the pot that he won.  Prior to them paying him, they took about 20 mins to review the camera footage, just to make sure there was no cheating. Then they counted every card in that hand because if 1 card is missing or there are duplicate cards, then the payout is void. The pic below, yellow chips are $1K each and near the dealers hand are purple chips $500 each and the tax they took out.

5) Ate and walked in some areas that aren't the best, but knowing that we're armed gives us a piece of mind knowing we're safe. But we are still scanning like usual because it's always best to avoid a threat if possible.

First of all congratulations on your envy payout. That is VERY cool!!!

I know you don’t like the trigger on the P365 but they are now shipping it with manual safety. I had a choice of with and without when I bought mine. I went with the model without one. Just personal preference.

The same two jacked my shooting buddy's SIL (who lives in Vegas).  They mentioned it months back.  Then when the pic was posted of the lady who got shot, they were like "those are the same two that jacked us".  Wonder how many else?  The SIL doesn't shoot, but they send their daughter to HI each summer to stay with my buddy and we take her shooting often.

For the table thing, I was on a table when a lady hit the 7 card straight flush at Pai Gow.  I think her payout was something like $134k.  She was a local and played that table all the time.  I don't recall my envy, but it was a lot.  For Pai Gow, doesn't matter how many players, buy for Let It Ride, I thought it does matter if there are 1 player, vs say more.  The board cards are different.  So would've been good for the guy to tip others on the table, but of course, not "required".

It matters if no one has the cards you need. In this case, he was delt a 3 card straight. He then pulled the first bet back instead of taking a peak. Even though the 3 of us told him we don't have the cards he needs. This caused him to lose out on another $2,000. Then when the 1st card was flipped over, he had an open ended straight flush, and was gonna pull another bet back.  But 1 guy insisted he "let it ride" and this time he listened. Guy wasn't a noob either.

I forgot to add that Mrs. CMO took $500 from me that the envy paid out. But it could be worst cause the guy next to me, his wife took the entire amount.

But over all a fun trip, I lost less than I did last month.

For the number of players, IIRC, it can change which cards end up being the board (or "dealers").  Same for 3 card poker (again, IIRC).  Where player 1 gets the same hand every deal.  Then if no other players, the next set goes to the dealer.  Then if a player jumps in, they get set #2 and then dealer gets set #3.

Yeah, I've been there where someone with say AKsuited and checks of anyone has.  I say "Let It Ride"! Otherwise, why even sit at the game.   8)
