General Discussion / Re: Khsc open on weekdays again?

There were 8 competitors today. RO advised me that photography was prohibited during the competition per the new rulebook. I'll have to research that one.

Chinese Gun Club is holding their 1st match since the closure on Wednesday 6 March at 9am. They have received the permit and can operate the line at 9am. I'll try to take some pictures between the stages of fire.

Was Rhodes around when we had the Tyke the Elephant incident? The community needed a 50 cal readily available back then.

For one hearing, he brought it up multiple times. So much that when our guys testified, they mentioned their service and we had a bunch.  I get that he likes to bring it up, but what's worst is that he took an oath and is breaking it. But one has to ask is that oath only valid when in the service?

I'll match his Bronze star and raise him a Meritorious Service Medal, a pair of Army Commendations, a pair of Army Acheivements, and a Combat Infantry Badge. My two Distinguished Badges trump his Expert. Wikipedia says his service ended with a helicopter crash, no mention if he was shot down or just a bad landing.

This was from last weeks Marine Corps Marksmanship Competition at KBay last week. Full kit minus helmet. Training in rough terrain is always a challenge. Practicing controlled falls are also recommended.

The competition will use the current Civilian Marksmanship Program Games Rifle and Pistol Competition Rules. As-Issued Military Rifle (Garand, Springfield) Vintage Military Rifle, Carbine, Modern Military Rifle, Springfield M1A CMP Competition Rules 4.0 – 4.6.5. https://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/CMPGamesRules.pdf Microsoft Word - 2023 CMPGamesRules_v4.docx (thecmp.org)

The Course of Fire will consist of the first stage 5 sighting shots and 10 record shots in the prone position in 15 minutes, second stage 10 record shots in prone from the standing start position in 80 seconds, and third stage 10 record shots in the standing position in 10 minutes. The first stage will be fired within the 20-minute block of hot time. The second and third stages will be fired during the next 20-minute block of hot time. A total of 35 rounds are required.

Target scoring will be done using the Silver Mountain Target System home (silvermountaintargets.com). Match commands will be done using the club owned public address system. Six NRA SR-1 targets will be modified to conform to the current rifle range requirements for a target center to be 5 feet from the ground level. Competitors will need a smart phone or tablet and will score for each other. 2nd relay will score 1st relay, then switch when their turn to shoot.

No food will be served or consumed on or near the firing line or ready area.

Arab musllims, christians, and bedouins are also exempt from having to serve.
And there was a time when Japanese-Americans were exempt from military service, then became the most decorated military unit in US History.

Any word on Silhouette side ?
The city wants the Silhouette Club to do the clean up, and build berms at each yard line with steel targets. Please write and call Laura Thielen to voice your displeasure.

Resident Mike Plowman says that Kaneohe mcas moved their annual training to Puuloa a few years ago.
Is that true?
Annual Training is an incorrect term.. Marines conducted Annual Rifle Training (ART 50 rounds) up until 2019. They now conduct Annual Rifle Qualification (ARQ 250 rounds). ART was more static precision marksmanship. ARQ is like Crossfit WODs with live ammo. Kaneohe ranges cannot support ARQ. Pu'uloa has the only range in 2500 miles that Marines can conduct ARQ.

Competition / The Alan Tokumura Memorial Air Rifle Match
« on: April 03, 2023, 06:34:00 AM »
This past weekend we held the Annual Alan Tokumura Memorial Match at Sacred Hearts Academy. There were 46 competitors from various high schools from Oahu and Maui. The scores and results are posted online https://www.orionscoringsystem.com/team/MatchPage.aspx?MatchID=1.2773.2023033110333134.0

Alan Tokumura (1953-2014) was a prominent coach in Honolulu of high school competitive smallbore rifle and air rifle. I first met him McKinley High School smallbore rifle range in 1978. His coaching career spanned McKinley, Punahou, St. Louis, and Sacred Hearts. He regularly competed in the prone smallbore club competitions at Kokohead.

The new rules will negatively impact clubs. Chinese Gun Club will not be able to hold NRA or CMP sanctioned matches. Hawaii Historical Arms will not be able to host fun matches, live history events or potlucks. XShots will not be able to hold smallbore matches that help high school students compete for college scholarships.

The action bays, skeet and trap, and silhouette ranges are still closed. All the clubs that use those ranges are SOL.

This is the strangulation of the shooting community. Only people with connections and $$$ will be able to participate in competitive shooting sports.

There are even neighborhood board and State resolutions to shut down the Pu'uloa Ranges.

For NRA Highpower Rifle Competition.

3.16.1 Compensators and Muzzle Brakes—The use of compensators
or muzzle brakes is prohibited. Tuners are allowed with the exception of
Service Rifles. An extension tube that has been installed on the muzzle of
a rifle to extend the sight radius shall not be considered a “muzzle brake.”
The extension tube must have an interior diameter of .5 inches or greater and
may have 1/4 inch x 1 inch slots cut at 12 and 6 o’clock to remove cleaning
patches. Threaded holes along the top of this tube for the installation of sight
bases will be allowed.

Muzzle brakes are not allowed for CMP competitions either.

We should have one or two more local gun rights groups in Hawaii.  Compete with each other to see who gets more done.
Isn't the Hawaii Rifle Association and Hawaii Defense Foundation a local gun rights groups?
