Firearms and Accessories / Rimfire Bullet Trap
« on: February 04, 2021, 04:39:00 PM »
Does anyone here have any experience with the rimfire bullet traps sold on Amazon?  I was thinking about buying a couple.  I wanted to use them for shooting both my PCP air rifles and my .22LR firearms.

They would not be shot in a public residential area.  It would be shot on private property owned by the company I work for.

Thanks I’m advance for sharing.  :shaka:

Hunting / Bird Hunting Without a Dog
« on: May 09, 2020, 04:34:21 PM »
Anyone here hunt without a dog?  In the past I’ve hunted on the Big Island with friends who had dogs, but I live on Oahu and my dog is only good for chasing lizards and cockroaches.

Firearms and Accessories / Battle Belts
« on: March 21, 2020, 07:36:21 PM »
Not to get all tactical and out there, but what battle belt/ carry belt do you guys run?  How do you have them set up?  I’ve finally decided to get a little more serious and start taking some classes, but like the HDF days they all require a holster and mag carriers.  Anyone run a chest rig?

Firearms and Accessories / 22ELR Rifle
« on: February 02, 2020, 05:11:30 PM »
I’ve been looking for a long time at all the different bolt action 22LR rifles trying to figure out which one to buy.  I own a couple 10/22’s and a M&P 15-22 which are all accurate enough for me, but recently I’ve been reading a lot about 22 rimfire and their use in ELR (extreme long range) shooting.  That got me thinking even more about which rifle I should get.  In ELR competitions guys are pushing the 22lr out to 300+ yards.

Ideally I’d like to keep the purchase price under $700.  I would also like something that has some aftermarket customization, at least the ability to change the stock.  I would also prefer if it comes with a threaded barrel.

I was thinking about the Ruger RPR rimfire rifle, but started having second thoughts. A lot of people on mainland forums recommend CZ rifles.  There were a couple Savage and Tikka rifles that I like the look of but have no idea if they are up to the task of being a long range precision rifle.

Does anyone here have any rifle recommendations or experience with pushing 22lr rounds out to extreme distances for accuracy?

General Discussion / Police Shooting in Kailua
« on: January 07, 2020, 03:43:10 PM »
I was listening to the live police press release on yesterday’s police involved shooting in Kailua.  In the conference the deputy police chief eluded to the fact that the gun the guy had may have been an airsoft gun.  But the thing that got me was that he went on to say that they, HPD, have encountered “many” airsoft guns that have been converted and are capable of firing real ammunition.  He made it seem like it is easy and relatively common.

I find that laughable and hard to believe.  From what I have seen it’s not that easy to convert.  At least the ones that I had a chance to fuss around with.  More lies and BS being sold as truth by our supposed protectors.

General Discussion / Black Powder Revolvers on Oahu
« on: April 07, 2019, 10:30:34 PM »
Do any of the LGS on Oahu regularly stock or carry black powder revolvers?  I’m thinking about buying one, but all my research seems to point to going down and physically handling them.  This is due to the differences between Uberti and Pietta.  Also fit finish even from one gun to the next by the same manufacturer seems to vary.  I went to a SASH shoot a few years ago and got to shoot one there, but at the time I wasn’t really thinking about getting one.

The US is such a disturbing place.  So now can I sue a beer manufacturer for making beer that got someone drunk in a DUI accident?  WTF is wrong with the world?  Why can’t people see that it is the actions of others and not the inanimate object.

General Discussion / Ebay and the Post Office
« on: February 27, 2019, 08:30:13 PM »
Last week I won an auction on Ebay for a supposed "open,  but new and never used" rifle stock from a guy in Florida.  At first he was going to send it FedEx, but it would have cost $67.  Next he goes down to the US Post Office and finds out it's only $19.  I tell him fine since the agreed upon shipping to Hawaii was $15 and he says he can stomach the $4 over.  So below is a picture of how he wrapped and sent it.

Today I go down to the airport branch of the post office to pick it up.  The postal worker causes a big commotion and begins lecturing me about firearms and how I am not supposed to send them in the mail like this.  After her little rant I politely and quietly pointed out the following:

1.  It is NOT a rifle or firearm, but a replacement stock for a rifle that is about as dangerous as a stick right now.
2.  I did NOT SEND IT.  I am here to pick up the package and had no idea this is how he wrapped it.  Also I do not know this guy from Adam as I had won it on Ebay.
3.  YOU GUYS, meaning the United States post office accepted it because they printed the postage and attached the tracking label to it.  So instead of lecturing me and making a big scene she should talk to her higher ups and go after the USPS workers in Florida.

After I made those arguements she just stared at me and then agreed that yes the people in Florida were at fault, but still insisted that I should  not send guns in the mail and especially not wrapped like that.  I told her thank you, took my parcel and left.

The wife and I got a good chuckle from this video.  I didn’t know where to put it, but since it was made by a woman I’ll put it here.

Preparedness and Survival / Ham Radio Operators
« on: February 03, 2014, 04:23:41 PM »
Anyone here have their ham radio operator license at any level?  A friend and I were talking about it today.  He is working on his  General License.  His brother on the mainland is big time into it is gifting him a setup.  It got me thinking about looking into getting my licenses.

Hunting / Bowfishing
« on: March 21, 2013, 03:11:17 PM »
Anyone here ever try bowfishing?  I was up in Kona for a class and one of the guys told me to check out Elite Hunters down in Kailua.  The owner is super cool and down to earth.  Definitely check them out if you're up there.  He sells guns and ammo too, but most of his stuff is geared towards archers.

Anyways he got me all pumped up about bowfishing by showing pictures of monster uhus and palanis the guys up there were picking up.  I rigged up my recurve bow to do some fishing, but I live on Oahu.  Anyone here got any suggestions on where to go on Oahu?  I was thinking Mokuleia, Kaena Point or eastside along the cliffs when its calm?  Maybe chum and see what comes up?  Are there any legal issues I would need to be concerned with here on Oahu?  I'm afraid people would think I'm some kind of crazy running around with a threatening weapon.

Firearms and Accessories / Mossberg MVP
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:12:17 PM »
I was wondering if anyone on the forum has on these or has had any range time with one?  I was looking at one over at Sports Authority this weekend.  I like the concept of  a bolt action that take AR mags.  I read that it has problems with polymer mags but does very well with USGI mags.  Is that true?  How well does it shoot?

I was wondering if anyone here is an SRGC member and if you know whether or not the SRGC is a registered CMP club?

Thanks

Firearms and Accessories / AR Upper Chambered for 7.62x39
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:09:44 AM »
Ok with yet another mass shooting up in the mainland I am starting to conisder the fact that if re-elected Obama may foucs more seriously on anti-gun legislation like he talked about.  So in order to stay a little more low key I started looking at divresifying the uppers for my 2 AR's.  The 7.62x39 is my first choice because of the amount of cheap ammo out there.  Has anyone had any experiences any uppers chambered for this particular round?  I looked at getting the PWS one, but also saw a YHM and Colt one on the internet.  Thanks for all your input.  And yes I know I could by an AK, but with the way things are prices are going up.
