I have teh MCH EDC single output version and it's plenty bright, at least for my intended purposes. Which is living and working in an urban environment.  I've tested it in "country" areas, or as country as can get on Oahu.  Was quick test, but PID out to say 30+ yards was easy.  However, standard lumen lights like Surefure Defender and Scout lights are fine at that, at least the models I own.  Haven't tested the backlight aspect where high candela lights are supposed to shine.

Check out YT videos on them.  There are lots.  Sage Dynamics has a couple of good ones.  Some might be behing his Patreon wall, but he's supposed to release them on YT eventually.

I debated between the EDC and HC heads and went with the balance of throw and flood.  I think unless you are LE or live out in the boonies, the EDC would be great for most purposes.

I think so.  That's a big part of my intended use.

Why do you think they aren't good for self defense?  Or durable?  Or bright enough?  I am very much a test of myself person, but compared to the Surefire X300 Turbo, the EDC is plenty bright and throw.  As for durability, no idea yet personally.  I am not a "hard use" person. . .
