I have a dozen or so loose primers, is there a way to tell pistol from rifle?

small primers so i guess theres no way to tell, maybe ill just load them in some 38 spl.

Load 1 and inspect, it may seat high.
Fire it (no powder/bullet).
Rifle primers are a bit "harder" to avoid slam fires and may not fire in a pistol.
I know from PE after reloading almost 1,000 9mms with rifle primers that would not fire in my pistol but would fire in 9mm PCC (see my old post regarding "anyone got a 9mm PCC")
A hammer fired revolver may be different.

yeah i was thinking 38 so i could put it in a revolver. but sounds like you just gave me a reason to finally get a pcc.  :shaka: :shaka:

Uzis are also quite good with harder (military) primers.  Had some 9 mm a while back that would only function reliably in an uzi.   8)

Un-identified Small primers...use it to load pistol ammo, they are interchangeable for pistol loads (not recommended to use pistol primers for rifle loads)
Un-identified Large primers....Large rifle primers are taller than large pistol primers
