Stupid, stupid, stupid.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

I think this is caused by lack of education. Parents that own firearms should be training their kids at a young age about firearms safety, and the dangers, responsibility, and moral sense required when handling firearms.
Maybe schools should teach courses on firearms safety and the dangers associated with mishandling of firearms.

In the old days ROTC taught these things, if I am not mistaken. I never had that opportunity, but this is what I have heard.

But I fear political climate and correctness would make such a thing an impossibility.  :(

Men struck by vehicle in Kalihi

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/124820299.html

Apparently the two victims walked away from the suspect to avoid a confrontation only to be hit by the suspect as they left. But hey, you don't need to carry a firearm to protect yourself. Just leave or call the police, they'll make sure you're safe.....

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Purse Snatchers flee with victim holding onto the hood

Police arrest man following robbery

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/124991934.html

Note that the man "assaulted" by the criminal's car was a good samaritan trying to help and that the criminal was arrest after he parked his car and returned to the scene, most likely to contine his criminal assaults. Oh, and the criminal had a history of violently assaulting others at a funeral.

Armed robbery at Kaneohe gas station

Man wanted on Big Isle for discharging gun during confrontation with girlfriend

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/125126319.html

Seems he followed the GF, who had gotten a ride from a tourist's, where he allegedly allasulted the GF again while she sat in the car. See, there's really no reason a tourist from another state needs to carry a firearm here...they're perfectly safe......

Japanese tourists get lost in Palolo. Get robbed and stabbed. The tourists' fault though. They should've armed themselves with a rental cellphone and called the Police while they're getting robbed. Dumb tourists.

Guy gets assaulted with a golf club in Wahiawa. This guy is local and has no excuse for getting injured like that when he could've just picked up his cellphone and called the Police while getting beat into serious condition. Idiot.

Don't these people know that phones are the only guaranteed protection outside of your residence or sojourn in Hawaii? In fact, it's so guaranteed to protect you that the Hawaii Ali'i are willing to bet your life and well being on it.

Moral of the day: Make sure you have your cellphone on you in case of violent life-threatening encounters. It will protect you - we promise**.

(Edit: Forgot about people who can't tell the obvious. This is sarcasm.)
