Deals and Sales / Discount on NM Collector Software
« on: December 22, 2023, 09:24:10 PM »
I received a 50% off coupon code directly from the software developer.  He said it was OK to share the code with others.  The coupon code is:  Christ2023
The discount is good through New Year's Eve.  I just placed an order for the lifetime version and the code works.  I bought the lifetime version ($41.12 after the discount) so that I'll get any future releases of the software for free.  Many of us keep track of our gun stuff on the computer, but this software makes it easy since it's tailored for gun collecting.

You can order the software here:  https://www.nmcollector.net/?ref=5MHPMi_y3Q66NI
The CMP gets part of the proceeds when you use the above link.

An inexpensive Christmas present for myself.

I shot this weapon a few years ago.  Shooting prone on the grass with a bipod it was difficult to keep on target that was ~200 hundred yds away on full auto even with short bursts.  If I could've put forward pressure on the bipod the weapon would probably be a lot more steady.  The rifle had an ACOG mounted on it - I think it was the TA31RCO.

General Discussion / Re: Why I don't buy too expensive EDC stuff
« on: November 13, 2023, 09:04:28 PM »
There's an alternate theory to having expensive EDC items:

The more it costs, the more likely you'll keep up with it.

i used to use the "free" gov't-supplied pens.  Even though I grabbed a dozen whenever I needed another, I never seemed to have a pen on me.  I would loan it and/or leave it wherever.

When I became a civilian contractor, I made the decision to buy a nice, expensive Cross pen and pencil set.

I used that set for 7 years until the pen accidentally took a bath in the clothes washer.  Even though the pen still wrote, the mechanism to extend and retract it was screwed.  So, I bought a replacement -- same set, different color exterior.  I still have them 18 years later.

If someone borrowed it, you bet your a$$ I didn't let them walk away with it!

Just a thought.

Ah yes, the Federali Skilcraft ball point pen - good for scratching holes in paper.  A few years ago we picked up some Skilcraft gel pens from the GSA Store and they were surprisingly good.

I used to buy Craftsman screw driver sets from this place called Sears. For whatever reason, I would end up losing the sizes I use the most and buy another set for about ten or twenty bucks. About fifteen years ago I bought a set from the Snap-on truck for around $280. Those screw drivers have had a lot of use on them and I still have the complete set . . . knocking on wood.

I used to buy broken Craftsman screwdrivers at garage sales for a quarter.  When I had accumulated a bunch I'd exchange them at Sears for new ones.  You can never have enough #2 Phillips ...

Unfortunately many of the old time bullseye shooters think they own the place because they are regulars.  You see this attitude everywhere - the golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools, etc.  Some people are just assholes

This event is perfect if you have an old rusted out Marlin semi-auto Model 60.  Strip the parts and turn in for $200

Tin foil time:  What are the chances that there are going to be folks taking pictures and recording license plates at the event?

Not many appliances are made in the US.  If you want a great US made washer, get a Speed Queen.

I was lucky to buy a few of Les Tam's thicker slings.  His older slings have the WW I brass keepers.  Good stuff

The gun show is almost here.  Hopefully everyone's been saving their pennies to buy something nice for themselves.  What will you be looking for or selling at the show?

They won't be taken away.  What happens next primarily depends on if you want to keep the items or sell them

They're probably screening 'locals' for the upcoming photo op
