Off Topic / All Hail, Diablo!
« on: March 26, 2024, 09:00:05 PM »
I found out the lifetime guarantee for Freud/Diablo saw blades is the real deal.

Had a slight kick-back while cutting a 1/4" thick piece of polycarbonate/plastic. The blade lost one entire tooth down to the main part of the blade, and 3 lost their carbide teeth.

I contacted Diablo through their website form, and a rep, Jennifer, replied in less than a day.  She asked for a description of what happened, and then asked for photos of the blade, my miter saw, and the piece that caused the kick-back.

The next day, she emailed a UPS label for me to return the blade and the damaged workpiece for them to examine, and then shipped out a replacement via UPS due to arrive next week.

Great customer service.  They stand behind their warranty, and the replacement process was quick and easy.

Violence Prevention Group Sued After
Man is Shot and Killed During Meeting

Quote
A Seattle gun violence prevention organization is being sued by the family of a man who
was shot and killed during a court-mandated appearance at a meeting, accusing the group
of failing to provide proper security.

19-year-old Omari Wallace was facing robbery charges in King County, Washington, but
prosecutors allowed him to be diverted into a program run by Community Passageways
in lieu of incarceration. While Wallace was attending an orientation meeting in March of 2021,
a man walked into the meeting at Emerald City Bible Fellowship and shot Wallace in a targeted
attack. The suspect himself was shot and killed by police while they were serving an arrest
warrant for homicide, but there were no officers at the meeting itself, even though Community
Passageways deals with a lot of individuals who've been accused and convicted of violent crimes.

According to court documents and news reports, there were nearly 40 people in attendance
when Hinds entered the Rainier Valley church and shot Wallace. The lawsuit alleges Community
Passageways “failed to take reasonable measures to ensure that the participants … were safe
from harm.” It also names the church and Urban Impact, another Washington nonprofit, as
defendants.

The action claims that after the shooting, Community Passageways staff and members refused
to cooperate with investigators, forcing then-King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg to
empanel a rare special inquiry to obtain documents, interviews and other information police say
they needed for the investigation.

“Both law enforcement and the community at large were bewildered how staff from the Community
Passageways, a violence-prevention program which receives millions of dollars in public funding,
could watch a murder committed before their eyes and not assist law enforcement,” the lawsuit states.

As far as I can figure it out, based on a variety of sources, there are 2 issues in the aftermath of the NYC judgement against him for fraud.

Today was the deadline for him to pay a bond of $454M in order to hold off the city from seizing his properties.  BTW, the fraud verdict was in summary judgement, meaning he never had a full trial to defend himself.

A court now said he has an additional 10 days to post the bond, and the amount was reduced to $175M, or about 1/3 the original amount.

The first issue is the bond.  That's basically a shield that protects his properties from seizure until his appeal is completed.  Without the bond, the city has the right to take his properties even while he's waiting for his appeal to be heard.

The second issue is the appeal itself.  That can take up to 3 years or more if his case has to wait behind the appellate cases ahead of him.

This video walks through the many facets of the case, how his cash is being held hostage to prevent it from helping him in his campaign, and how he's being prosecuted under laws that nobody else has ever been prosecuted under.  Most pundants say if Trump can be found guilty of over-valuing a property, then every single real estate developer in NYC is likely just as guilty.

In the 1960s, anyone diagnosed with a mental defect was labeled prohibited from buying firearms.

In the 1990s, the Social Security Administration, followed in 1998 by the Veteran's Administration, decided that anyone getting services from them and has asked for another to manage their finances for any reason were summarily designated "mentally defective."  That earned them the prize of having their names submitted to the FBI as prohibited gun buyers in the NICS database.

Biden just signed into law a spending bill which includes a provision to stop the VA from reporting veterans without a diagnosed mental illness or defect from being reported to NICS.  Notice, the veteran provision was wedged into a spending bill, which i'm sure was not brought to Biden's attention until after the signing.

Of course, the anti-gun groups are losing their minds claiming thousands of vets have been handed "a death sentence."

Since the sole criterion for the previous rule was "having someone else manage their finances", there's no evidence anyone in that group will be more likely to misuse a firearm.

This is good news for the Second Amendment and for veterans who deserve the respect and liberties they earned to defend themselves, hunt or sport-shoot if they are so inclined.

Don't forget: many of these veterans are trained and experienced in warfare and would be vital in any resistance to a tyrannical government should the need arise.

Pittsburg police will no longer be responding to any calls which are not "in-progress emergencies."

This, after NY began deploying the National Guard to provide law enforcement.

It's going to get worse before it gets better.

So, it's not inflation -- it's price gouging by businesses that makes things so expensive now.

That's according the Resident Biden's White House.

Is he stupid?

Senile?

Ignorant?

A lying, evil Democrat?

Typical Liberal playbook.  Create a crisis, then convince people you need to have more of your rights violated to fix it.

Martial Law is one crisis away ...

South Carolina passed a Constitutional Carry law, but the thing reads like someone asked Google Gemini to create a CC bill that would pass in Hawaii!

Landmark Bill: Property Owners to Bear
Liability for Injuries in Gun-Free Zones

Quote
A new Georgia bill would make property owners liable if a lawful concealed
carry permit holder is harmed while barred from being armed on their property.

House Bill 1364 allows legal gun owners who are prohibited from carrying on
private property and subsequently injured to sue the landowner.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/landmark-bill-property-owners-to-bear-liability-for-injuries-in-gun-free-zones/ar-BB1jl8Ky

I guess if the threat of civil and financial liability is significant enough, the property owners will choose to make their properties gun-friendly zones instead.

And, the owners who refuse will either close their doors or, God forbid, be sued out of existence should a patron be killed or injured on the premises.

Giving family members the right to sue after a loved one is killed will not bring them back, but at least it's better than the illogical status quo now.  Rational people agree that if a business has a policy that causes harm, they should be held liable for that.  Gun free zones should not be an exception.

General Discussion / Louisiana Is Number 28!
« on: March 03, 2024, 01:39:49 PM »
Louisiana's House and Senate have just passed Constitutional Carry for their state.  All that's left is for the governor to sign it into law, and he supports the bill.

That makes 28 out of 50 states to have Constitutional Carry.  No permits or additional training required in order to carry concealed in public.

Meanwhile, gun-control-crazy, left-wing-extremist blue states are scurrying to make their concealed carry laws as burdensome and expensive as possible.

Make a list for when you travel.  You might be able to CCW the entire trip if you only visit these 2A-compliant states.

Off Topic / Google HATES White People -- The Proof is Undeniable
« on: February 21, 2024, 04:24:53 PM »
Google Gemini AI can't stand White people, and social media is abuzz with all the examples people are posting.

Based on Tim's live interaction with Gemini, when asked to make a picture of a White man or family, the AI LIES TO HIS FACE saying it can't do racially-specific requests.

But, when he asks for a Black man or family, the image appears instantly.

Off Topic / R.I.P. David McCallum
« on: February 20, 2024, 07:48:00 PM »
The series NCIS lost one of the oldest members of their family:  David McCallum who played Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard.

From 2003 - 2024, he's appeared in 459 episodes.  Although he passed away in September last year, the production used previous footage and other techniques to include him in this week's story.

I didn't realize it before, but he was also in one of my favorite old movies, The Great Escape, with Steve McQueen, James Garner, Donald Pleasance, and many other great actors.  He played Ashley-Pitt aka "The Disperser" -- the guy who came up with the system for disposing of the dirt being removed from the huge tunnel being built.

He also starred in the series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., but I never watched it (I was a bit young then!).

He'll be missed by many.  He passed just 6 days after his 90th birthday.

Rest in peace, Ducky.

This is a case of hypocritical spin-doctoring.

On the one hand, Biden's team is not interested in the polls when it comes to low support numbers.  i.e. "We will not govern by polls."

On the other hand, when a policy (e.g. student loan forgiveness, etc.) polls favorably, they immediately argue that the people are overwhelmingly in favor based on polls.

Another example would be gun control, and how they claim 80%+ of gun owners are in favor of universal background checks.

They want to cherry pick the polls and pretend denying the validity of one in no way casts doubt on the veracity of the other.

Nothing we didn't already know, but it's nice when the lapdog media finally asks questions voters need to hear the answers to.

This is infuriating.  I can't imagine how pissed Bill and his wife are.

He really needs to get his elected representatives involved.  I've found that's almost always the most expeditious way to get a gov't employee to wake up and do what they should.
