General Discussion / Re: Gun Show Weirdos 2024
« on: January 27, 2024, 10:04:23 PM »
Never been to a Hawaii gun show.  Given the laws here it seems a waste of time.
Been to a lot of mainland shows from Florida to WA state.
Admittedly I keep at least 1000 rounds for every one of my guns stored in WA state,
most people keep a stash of food in the pantry don't they?
But other than the NBC warfare nut cases I haven't seen many of the other nut cases
described in the video.
Perhaps it's because I only went to serious gun shows. Not a carnival.

The gun shows at the Blaisdell center is a mix of museum/gun flea market, always good fun to talk story with friends and shop owners.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2022/07/31/police-arrest-suspect-accused-beating-elderly-man-apparent-road-rage-attack-laie/

No charges filed in road rage attack caught on camera.

No consequences = more crime

Would charges be filed if there was video of the 70yo successfully defending himself with a ccw?

Hopefully Laie is a small community and goin get some karma for the guy

if was my grandpa, guarantee that guy going get some "tax returns" if you know what I mean....

For me,

Really leaning towards my CZ P-01 (omega) just because I like how it feels when shooting, and I got the decocker model and really prefer decockers over safeties...

also considered Glock 43X (only if got the rail and MOS option), Sig P365 spectre comp (when it comes available), and/or compact 1911 (to carry 45acp)

really looking to setup my P-01 first though, I put $1000 a side to spend on upgrades and hope to stay in the budget

hi everybody,

just asking if anybody knows a local machine shop that does barrel porting...

I have been thinking about porting some of my pistols and saw some shops online in the states, but hoping to maybe keep it local before i reach out.

also possibly thinking of machining a red dot, thinking of doing one first to my CZ P-01, then maybe other guns later...  also planning on setting up for Carry if it does become legal here...

if anybody knows someplace or someone, please let me know

mahalos :shaka:

What you guys think of carrying a p-01??

was planning to make mines like this and carry....

gonna start practicing with the p-01, glock 43/43x (maybe add comps to either) and glock 48...  i really like the slimmer profile on these :geekdanc:

Aloha fam,

Anybody know if there’s any LGS doing Black Friday deals this year now that covid restrictions are loosening up?

Just wondering if I should raise funds or not…

I can tell you that I know 1st hand that 2 of the LGS on your list are charging people for the PTA. I know because one tried to charge me and the other was to another customer. And neither were X-Ring. I won't shop there because of their entire business model.

Yeah, Xring is pretty expensive, I usually go there because they’re closer than kokohead and I have friends that drag me with them

Sometimes they got cool stuff for sale, bought a VePR from them long time ago

But unless I’m goin with friends, I don’t usually go alone

LGS is the abbreviation for a generic term:

Local Gun Store (or Shop)

Ahh, didn’t know that thanks

I got Lennox Gastaut Syndrome when I googled

A good friend finally got an affidavit for firearm safety and went to shop for first firearm. Sounds good except the lgs charged $150 for PTA, saying “oh, it’s almost impossible to get appointment online but we can get you an appointment for $150!”.   It’s overwhelming for a first-time buyer and not knowing fully the process $150 is not much to pay for inconvenience. But wow!  Money matters but forget about repeat customers and word of mouth.  I would say if lgs tries to sell PTA, stay away!!!

lgs?  Whose that?

Gun shops I’ve shopped at were Security equipment, young guns, X-ring, prime sports, OGC, J haras, Danger close, HGS, 808gunclub , Gun Source and WGS...

Please tell :shake:

In Hawaii, if you had a criminal pinned against the wall with your vehicle,  not injuring him but he couldn't escape, you will probably get charged with kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.   After all, you did hold him against his will and you could have easily killed him.
Criminals have rights. You, not so much.

My disclaimer will be: “he threatened to come back and finish the job”.  So I wanted him caught and put away

https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/vol14_ch0701-0853/HRS0703/HRS_0703-0304.htm

The only place I see the word demand has to do when a thief demands you not do something.
The actor knows that he can avoid the necessity of using such force with complete safety by retreating or by surrendering possession of a thing to a person asserting a claim of right thereto or by complying with a demand that he abstain from any action which he has no duty to take, except that:

I have wondered how these use of force laws interact with citizen arrest laws. One the one hand you have to try and avoid using force by retreating if safe, but on the other hand if you are trying to citizens arrest someone, force may be necessary.

It’s probably rhetorical but that’s why Hawai’i is pretty much pro-criminal in my eyes

The flee or retreat clause was probably written by a grown version of a kid who was picked on in high school.

I would find it hard to do citizens arrest without using force unless things line up like, you have the perp cornered with your car pretty much pinning the perp to a wall without actually hurting or killing..

Situations like this probably only happen in the movies

Thanks guys,

Like I always tell my friends, “Last Resort”, after owning a firearm, I really do understand and believe in the saying “with great power comes great responsibility”.  Especially after having to go through obstacles in getting a letter to acquire.

I admit that Hawaii is pretty chill compared to the mainland and with crappy 2a laws, I still opt to stay here because of aloha spirit and how cool most people are.

No crazy protest/riots, pretty low covid cases, great weather, and for myself I got 90% or my family and friends here.

I do hate this state in the sense or cost of living and in the job market, it’s not what you know, but who you know, which works out both positive and negative for myself.

Been watching a lot of ASP (active self protection) on youtube and what John says on his channel always try to resort to deescalating and your cool.

Will definitely read the HRS a couple more times and try to put footnotes on “possible translations”

Sorry for the rambling but I digress...

Appreciate you all and am glad to have a resource like this on 2ahawaii

Steps in getting robbed.
1. Show fear of the criminal.
2. Give up property to criminal
3. Get as much info about the criminal i e. physical description
4. Call 911
5. wait for an officer to arrive
6. file report
7. wait and hope for your property to be returned to you

Granted these steps may be null and void if the criminal decides to hurt or kill you.

I like this layout

I’ll send it to him

Hopefully the end of a barrel is good enough of a deterrent...  I feel like if they do get in your house, it’s game on though, fear for safety is automatic as you have no walls/door to protect you

I would rather go to jail than get killed...  that’s just me
