How is that even related?  I warned that trump and the trumpets could (did) lose the senate for the GOP.  For bills like this they need 60 votes.  They have maybe 50.  I'm more confident in my math than your reasoning skills, so its not going to pass.  Unless 10 republicans cross the isle.  And we all know 0 did that for covid.  What are the chances they will for anti-2a.

Sad but true.  And at the same time his puppeteers will be telling him what to say and do......

House Democrats just REJECTED an amendment that would have required ICE to be notified if an illegal immigrant tries to buy a gun.

But they’re fine taking away the gun rights of law-abiding American citizens.

Would a universal background check indicate that you bought a firearm (and if so what type) or would it only indicate you wanted to buy a firearm?

Would a universal background check indicate that you bought a firearm (and if so what type) or would it only indicate you wanted to buy a firearm?

A Universal Background Check system that encompasses private sales CAN NOT FUNCTION to any degree unless the gov't knows what everyone owns -- i.e. a National Firearm Owner Database.

Refer to how Hawaii's system works. Without registrations, there's no way to enforce background checks for private sales.  "They" have to know who owned the gun before the next person acquired it.

Walk through it:

I buy a gun from an FFL -- Background Check and all the stuff the ATF requires.  Pretend we live in a state that doesn't require Permits to Acquire or Registrations.

Then, I sell it to you.  There's a law requiring I run a background check on you, so I do -- because I don't know you well enough to trust you.

Next, you sell it to your friend/relative -- someone you know.  You decide to skip the background check since you know the person.

Tell me, if there's no Federal Firearm Database, how would the gov't know that you owned that specific gun before your friend/relative?  And, if they can't tell you owned it, how would they even try to enforce a background check when you transferred it to someone else?

NICS data is supposed to be expunged of firearm data after the transfer is approved, so there's no defacto national firearms owner list.

Ad to that scenario another step.  Your friend/relative transfers the gun to a stranger.  Turns out the stranger is from out of state, has a domestic violence conviction, or has some other disqualifying problem in their past.  Without firearm registrations, how can the state/feds FORCE your friend/relative to run a background check on that stranger?  No way to know who transferred it, and no way to see who received it.

Bottom line, UBC is a failure without Universal Firearm Registrations to match guns to owners, making the law unenforceable.  Getting a UBS law passed is just a stepping stone.  Once the "design failure" becomes public knowledge, a push for registration is just one law away.  And we all know there's only one viable reason for the gov't to know who owns what guns:  confiscation.

Good old Ed Case
I support the 2nd Amendment, BUT
............................................................

March 16, 2021

Dear Mr. XXXXXX:

Mahalo for contacting me with your opposition to H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act.

I respect the Second Amendment rights of Americans while also working to keep guns away from those who seek to do harm with them. There is no right way to balance the two interests, though I work to support reasonable regulation which preserves gun rights for law-abiding citizens.

As part of that balancing effort, I generally believe that that background checks are vital to keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals, can save lives and do not infringe on Second Amendment rights. Thus, I must respectfully disagree on H.R. 1446, which I have cosponsored and voted with a majority of my House colleagues for its passage on March 11, 2021.

The legislation now awaits action by the Senate. I encourage you to reach out to our two Senators to let them know your thoughts. You can find their contact information by visiting https://www.senate.gov/senators/index.htm

Thank you again, and please continue to let me know of your views. Please also sign up for regular updates from me and my office through my e-newsletter and social media outreach at https://case.house.gov/contact.
With aloha,

UBC is  a stepping stone to nation wide registration. Not like it would affect HI cause we already got that.  That's why people who know better are fighting against this.  I still emailed Case about it, it's for the cause.

Add to the list of stepping stones the proposed national assault weapons ban.  It's another "solution" that is unenforceable without a national registry for grandfathered assault weapons -- at a minimum.
