At a time when the embattled rail project is facing massive cost overruns and is laying off dozens of staffers, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation has awarded former Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa a $216,000 consulting contract.

Contract is for only 5 months for $216k, renewable for 6 years. Does that mean she can get $216k every 5 months??

Democrat ruled Hawaii is all a "swamp" what is new?
Part of the cost of living here is to pay the Party for their
Largess,  you know make the enlightened and the select few
rich.  Accommodate their harebrained ideas on the environment,
transportation, energy production, education, shipping, gambling,
race, et al, because they are Party members and know what is
best for you( and them!).
Since for the most part it is Honolulu tax money, I say she is worth
a million dollars a year.  She is a Democrat party member after all and
needs your contributions for her health, welfare, and private
security protection.
Pay up Democrats!  It is your duty to the Party!

So, that's $43.2K per month, or $518.4K per year.

The 5-month contract makes the time period and the dollar amount sound smaller than a full year cost would sound.  Over half a million per year x 6 years would be $3.11M over the life of the contract if/when it is renewed for the full length of the contract.

When contracts in gov't have these renewal clauses, it's specifically to avoid committing the state/feds to a multi-year arrangement.  They never know if the funding will be appropriated, so they have to hedge their bets and break it up so they can legally let the contract end if necessary.  It also lets the gov't contracting office renew with the same vendor over and over without having to post a recompete notice and go through the whole vendor selection process each year.

If the money is there, and half a million in a fiscal year is often pocket change for these politicians, the contract WILL go the full term, and she'll have $3.11M in just 6 years.

I could live on $518,400/year.

why do we keep rewarding losers? We didn't want her as mayor why would we want her consulting on anything else?

Guarantee someone in the approval chain will be benefitting -- either with a relative subcontracted to her or maximum campaign contributions -- or both.

From Honolulu Republican Party:
CRONYISM!! BILLIONS OVER BUDGET AND YEARS BEHIND SCHEDULE, AND HART HIRES HANABUSA.
The contract hires a consultant to serve as a liaison to the Honolulu City Council, state Legislature, “Congressional Committees and appropriate federal and state agencies. The selected Offeror (consultant) will provide coordination, counsel, and information to HART and will advise and represent HART with respect to state transportation policy, legislation, regulation, and state funding opportunities.”
Hanabusa’s contract is worth $216,000 for the first 18 months, with a 7.7% increase in “Option Year 2;” and a second increase of 7.1% in the final year for an aggregate total of $924,000 over six years, HART spokesman Joey Manahan said.

Paper also reported it’s a $924K contract for whatever that’s worth.

Rail is Fail.
Definitely a pocket liner.

But, hey, it provides nice shade over Kam Hwy. through Aiea and Pearl City.

Hanauseless is just scratching the surface. We have our own wondertwins version of George Soros.

Who are Bill Reeves and Debbie Berger? The fact that nobody knows and yet they wield so much political power speaks volumes.

What happened to the FBI / DOJ were going to look into fraud tied to our train just like they are supposed to do in CA? Did Biden make that all go away like his son's run ins with the law?

Hanabusa is either a moron or thinks the coast is clear, knowing her, the answer is probably both.
