Bojangle recommended a durable scope like a Trijicon or Swfa so I’m close to buying something.

New Trijicon Hurons (3-9x40, no illuminated reticle) are as low as $350

New SWFA’s run about $750 (3-15x42, I think no illuminated reticle)

Are you folks using illuminated reticles? 
Did you shoot a deer in low lighting?

(I pretty much know I should save up more to get the Trijicon Credo which has an illuminated reticle)

My coworker bought an AR from DCT and he told me that DCT and other local stores no longer sell 30 rd AR mags

I’m thinking he misunderstood something

What are current FFL fees?  Who are you folks using?

I know there was thread a few years ago but it must be pretty obsolete

I used to go thru Kaneohe Gun Shop but got lazy about making the drive.  Then was using another place near the police station but they closed down.

A $45 wall rack from Walmart or regular pegboard is the most cost effective but I was thinking of spending a little bit more and maybe getting rubber maid fast track track panels…or even steel pegboards or aluminum slat  panels

Just for hold 4-5 rifles at time, above a work table,
When I’m tinkering on stuff….cleaning, oiling, etc.  When pau, firearms get put away

I’m thinking the rubber maid panels will be good enough…but if steel or aluminum isn’t too much more I may get that.

I was browsing the gun pegboard site earlier today.  Will swing by Lowes and Home Depot to see if they have something nice

I have TW25 and Tetra grease…. which are fine when I used to go to the range ever month

With the range closures and the new operating procedures, my stuff has been sitting for years and the TW25 and Tetra separated in both the tubes and on my toys.

I now have to try to knead the tubes… but it is a fail and oil comes out first.

The grease now seems more like a semi dry paste on my toys.

I’ve googled and it sounds like Brian Enos glide slide doesn’t separate in the tube or on toys

What grease are you folks using for firearms that sometimes sit for a while (say like about 5 years)

If all working greases separate over time, I’ll just use CLP.  Not looking for a storage grease like cosmoline.

Yes you can come in and apply for a Blank handgun permit but everything else is the same as a handgun permit with the information. Meaning you still need to show handgun safety when applying, the permit is only good for one handgun, it is valid for only 30days from date of issuance. Does anyone have a link to the new PTA process for handguns that isn’t 32 pages long?

When I try to google, I get the old PTA process where you need the handgun info when applying for a handgun PTA.  Also found a 32 page document on the 30 day permit but my eyes glaze over just looking at it

I also tried to search thru this forum but my search fu must be weak or I’m blind.   Probably both….

I heard that now you can apply for a permit with no pistol info and the permit is good for like 30 days…..so sort of like a rifle permit.

Can the new handgun permit be used to register multiple handguns…..similar to a rifle permit?  Or is it still 1 handgun per permit?  Ie.  4 handguns = 4 permits.

Couple of my coworkers picked up nicer (to me) red dots and lpvo’s for their multi-role hurricane/shtf/HD/range toy ar’s. (One guy has only one AR, the other has 2 AR’s cause he is a “2 is 1” type)

I have my AR’s split into 3 groups
- range toy (4-12x42 scope, no buis)
- pig (Grendel, 7.62x39, lpvo’s, buis)
- HD/shtf/hurricane (iron sights only)

For the HD/shtf/hurricane AR’s, they are simple/lightweight
- pencil barrel
- iron back sight / FSB
- elzetta FSB light mount
- streamlight polytac
- cvlife quick adjust slings

For the folks that have ar’s set up towards HD (not dual purpose HD/range toy….so your HD ar only sees the range only in a blue moon to check function) are you using red dots?

Red dots are great but I’m pake.  And I feel stuff with circuits tend to be the first to go.  Which is why i bought lpvo’s for the pig ar’s.  Even when the circuit goes kaput, it still has an etched reticle and still usable for decades

So I’m thinking iron sights are adequate for 15-20 feet and red dots won’t make much of a difference for the average Oahu person who is unlikely to get into a HD shoot out…..where shoot outs nationally average like 2 shots

At 15-20 ft, I’m thinking almost dont need sights….can just shoulder and aim down the hand guard….or just put the light on the BG to aim

But I could be wrong in my thoughts about nice red dots on HD longarms that only see the range maybe twice in a decade to check function)

We love the cheap red dot on our Ruger Mark III….surprisingly accurate at silhouette.  My friends love their cheap Bushnell red dots on their Ruger 10/22’s.  Based on our experience and experience of friends, cheap red dots (Bushnell TR25, etc) are fairly durable, hold zero and great for range toys

Forgot to mention that I hate cleaning ar’s so they only go to the range if we have a friend/relative coming along.  For me, I’m fine with a 22lr bolt action at the rifle range.
