OP should chime in on his experiences with said brand, from "a friend" perspective. . .

My first pistol was a HK USP 40 Compact.  Still have it, but almost never shoot it.  It's a solid and reliable firearms, but almost nothing about it is what I currently want or appreciate in a handgun. 

A guy was shooting a USP 9 recently in a USPSA match.  I originally wanted to shoot my USP 40 Compact when I first started in USPSA, but I ended up getting a Glock 17.
