SKS muzzle threading
« on: July 09, 2018, 02:13:58 PM »
Got a norinco sks sporter (16” barrel and uses AK mags) that I’m trying to bubba up, but whoever had it last put a 5/8x24 thread on it. The issue with that is 308 muzzle devices don’t fit because the BARREL DIAMETER IS TOO SMALL for a 308 muzzle device.

Should I thread it for 14x1LH anyway over the existing 5/8x24 RH thread?

Any other options to mount a muzzle device on the sks?
Anyone makes/willing to make custom thread adapters?

I would probably opt for honing out a 308 muzzle brake instead of re-threading.

Don’t see how I can get a 308 muzzle brake if the barrel diameter is smaller than the thread diameter of a 308 muzzle brake, at least the way it is currently.
Right now I’m looking at cheap-o pinned muzzle brakes.

Dexter Lum can probably fix it for a reasonable price.

I ordered a cheap pinned muzzle brake just to see if it works. I won’t be at a huge loss since it was just over $10.

I must have misread or misunderstood your original post. I thought you stated that someone threaded the barrel to accept a .308 MB. I assumed 5/8'x24 is the thread pitch for a .308 MB. Is it not?

Yeah 308 barrels usually uses 5/8x24 threads
