    "The Honolulu City Council last week changed land use regulations governing setbacks for the winds turbines, from a 1-to-1 ratio that would allow a 568-foot turbine to operate 568 to a new distance of 1.25 miles or 10 times their height — whichever is greater — from many property lines. "
   
   Although routine repairs are generally allowed on non-conforming structures, Council members ultimately decided against allowing wind turbines to make repairs affecting their height after the end of their current 20-year contracts with Hawaiian Electric Co. That means turbines from the first batch might have to close in 2031 and turbines from the last batch might have to close in 2040, well before the end of the windmills lifespan. Eighteen of Kahuku’s 20 wind turbines would be considered non-conforming with a 1.25-mile setback requirement.                                                                                  
The wind farm makes 30MWh per hour, solar would need to take up 600 acres of grazing land to make the same power the 12 turbines make.

   This decision comes from the minority of "squeaky wheels" (think anti-gun) opposing the wind mills saying they are negatively impacted by noise and flickering shadows.   
   
     When the owners of the wind farm property sells off the land, not Oahu will lose its biggest local beef producer, North Shore Livestock Co., a family owned business established in 2012 by a very industrious hard working  22 yr old, the land will surely be developed as has much of Hawaii's other AG land.
    
     Whether it's about the loss of clean energy, the demise, waste and disposal of functioning  Green Energy power generating facilities or the loss of another local business providing local goods (beef)

Feel free to also inform your rep in the City Council of their poor decision making.
