Warning for those who open carry.  Guy gets his handgun stolen from behind and thief gets away.  He was lucky that there wasnt a worse outcome.

If you open carry get a holster with very secure active retention.  Also get the proper training.   Always keep your hand by the gun and position yourself so people can't get to their gun.  And situational awareness all the time and hand to hand training if there's a fight for the gun.

Join the Hawaii Firearms Coalition at www.hifico.org.  Hawaii's new non-profit gun rights organization focused on lobbying and grassroots activism.

Good point. This is why I advocate concealed carry in most situations.

Yikes, what the hell was the guy thinking?  Or not thinking, duh.

When I first carried concealed in public (in another state), I sort of felt myself keeping my right arm by my side, almost hovering over my holster.  Probably looked damn funny.

Seriously though, yeah.  I fully support and recommend retention and some training on retention of the firearm.  I have an SLS and the retention isn't that difficult to defeat.  The ALS is a different story.  I have one ALS holster, but don't use it much.
