So I was thinking about this today and decided to list what is in my BOB or GOOD (get out of Dodge) and the rest of the gear I would take with me if I had to bail. This bag is not a survival bag, can be carried and I have done several 10+ mile hikes here on the island with it.
Broken down into sections
1. Supplemented individual First Aid Kit, has the following additional items:
Quickclot (x3) Quickclot Sport (x1)
various OTC pain meds
Antibiotics
Extra bandages
Unlubricated latex condoms (ever got a bad cut in wet country or on a boat? This is how you keep it dry)
Suture kit
extra bandages and tape in various sizes
2 Ace bandages (ever sprain an ankle?)
Chopsticks (make great finger splints, or if you need a spare set at dinner time).
Very small rolls of duct tape.
Bug spray, Suncreen
Instant icepacks.
2. Signal and Fire Whistle on the outside of bag, standard loud ass coaches whistle on a lanyard. within reach at all times...numerous uses
Whistle in bag
Signal mirror (star point)
Several butane lighters
Steel wool
2 - 9 volt batteries (for use with above)
Push operated magnesium fire-starter
All weather tender (will light when wet)
Hand saw (basically a chainsaw blade with a lanyard on both ends).
3. Shelter: 550 cord (at least 200 feet). Properly rolled up, this takes up very little space and has unlimited uses.
2 USMC tarps that are 10'x10'. Folded, these are very light, waterproof and have a multitude of uses. One for a cover and one for the floor (replaces way to heavy tent that was part of original plan). 550 cord used to string it up.
One very light weight "sleeping bag liner". In your clothes, this is almost too much for even the "chilly months" we have here.
Mechanix brand gloves. (no need to bust up your hands and have to break into your first aid kit. These are very pliable and you can shoot with them easily. They also breathe well.
4. Water. Camelback built in to bag (80oz)
one quart canteen on pack waistbelt - quick detach (velcro).
one 2 quart canteen attached to pack via MOLLE with sling.
2 -1 liter bottles made out of PET stuffed in the pack on the way out the door. Room temperature and sealed. PET bottles can be used later to disinfect water using SODIS method (

NavigationGarmin Oregon GPS unit with detailed maps of Oahu. I cannot say enough about the ruggedness of this unit. I have dropped it, kicked, submerged it, and it is still going.
12 batteries (6 days/12 hours of continuous operations)
Knives and various cutting toolsSog SEAL pup elite
Kabar tactical angle knife
Gerber Applegate Fairbairn folder
gg&g tomahawk
Uncle Henry 3 blade folder
LightsSurfire Aviator with 12 pack of batteries
VariousSeveral pens in various colors
Small pad of paper
small steel machine ruler with standard and metric measurments
Roll of @ass wipe!
Earplugs in a case on the shoulderstraps.
Water purification tablets (24)
Passport and cash (hidden)
Eats3 MRES (~1250 calories each)
8 cliff bars and various energy bars
multi vitamins and couple of packs of electrolytes
Fiber. MRES can stop you up! They are low in fiber. Since this is a 72 hour bag. I only carry a little bit
WeaponsDaniel Defense M4 with Aimpoint T-1 Micro, PWS muzzle brake (hence the earplugs that are easy to get to). Variable position sling.
10 loaded Magpul P-MAGS (6 in a bandolier, 1 in gun, 3 in the pack.) Handloaded 55grn FMJ SBT. 24.8 grns VARGET.
Glock 22 (40 SW) 5 mags (1 in gun, 4 on mag carriers, gun belt goes around the waist, but above the pack waist belt). 135grn Winchester rangers. This is the gun I shoot best.
1 box of 50 40SW 180grn Speer Gold Dot in the bag.
2 bore snakes (1 for both) bottle of MP-7 and 1 bottle of same brand oil
Things to addScrew on type water filter. Have seen several that screw on to water bottles, but not sure which is best yet.
Sleeping pad (maybe a multi-mat. Daughter has one and I think i need to get a couple more). This is mainly if I have to camp on concrete or plain dirt. Other wise I would use what is available to make a mat.
Tincture of Iodine (used to purify water, great for short term use...can be rough on your system, great for cleansing wounds)
Fishing kit.
Protective goggles, probably Oakleys.
Small items for barter (cigs, cans of snuff, etc)
Pepper gas in a holster
Decent multi-tool. I have had at least 10 that I can no longer find (damn garage gremlins)
The bag is not exactly light, but it really isn't that bad as far as weight is concerned. I hope I put some ideas out there and would love to hear ideas on how to reduce the weight and still get what is needed out of it.
