"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

That is very true, guess that's why the class is only an hour long.

I'm glad the Hawaii 511 is doing something.  The Vegas one has classes from CRSI Academy a lot.  The most recent one was home defense about 2 weeks ago.

511 stores across the nation are looking for instructors to teach classes:

If you live near a 5.11 Tactical store, we have an opportunity for you! 5.11 has launched the ABR Academy, a series of interactive and educational classes held at 5.11 retail stores. At the Academy, subject matter experts educate users in the areas of self-defense, everyday/concealed carry, trauma care, fitness, and outdoor adventure. They are looking for qualified instructors like YOU.

Perhaps a seminar on how to best clean your gun would be received well at your local store. If you're a Refuse To Be A Victim Instructor, this is a perfect opportunity to conduct a short seminar on a vital community safety program. The topics are endless, just like your talents. If you'd like to get involved, email ABRacademy@511tactical.com to get in touch with the 5.11 Marketing Manager.
For a list of 5.11 retail locations and upcoming ABR Academy events, click here.
Volunteer now to conduct firearm safety clinics in the 5.11 location nearest you! Let's show 5.11 shoppers how much the NRA Training family knows about safety.

I enjoyed the class.  There were about 15 or so people attending and 511 cleared an area in the store for us to practice along with providing a backpack as a random prize.  We learned basic knife movements.  I've never used a knife for defense before so everything was new to me, but the instructor kept everything simple.  I can't remember complex moves so it was perfect for me.

Id rather have a gun, but I feel confident to have a knife on me now.

Next 511 class is Krav Maga next Friday.

Nice I’ve been wanting to attend a class on knife techniques myself.

Paul Vunak said when confronted with a knife, “Run like hell.”  Even if I  have a gun, I would run to create distance if possible.  Although I carry 2 fixed blades, one of the last things I want to get into is a knife fight.

Knife defense is useful when you don't have the option to run or surrender unharmed.

For a while I used to carry a Cold Steel Oyabun fixed blade.  14” overall with a 9” blade.  I had my wife modify some of my pants pockets so I could carry it inside my left front pocket.  Got to be too much after a while.  Wonder what the reaction would be if someone pulled a 4” folder, which is what most people carry, and I made like Crocodile Dundee.

I'm trying to find the vid of a knife attack I thought was in China.  1 guy used a kitchen knife (10 inches or so) and the victim took about 15+ stabbings and was still able to try and fight.  After about 1-2 mins or so, then he fell.  This was a random knife attack also.  Didn't realize there were so many CCTV knife attacks on youtube.  The fake news doesn't want you to know how often they happen, because only guns are bad.

That brings me to a point, I think slashing is better defense than stabbing.  As the vid would have showed.  Because when you slash, you can cut tendons and muscles so arms and hands stop working.  Compared to stabbing even with a big knife, the attacker can still function and cause harm.  But you need a sharp knife or serrated.

For equally skilled people

Close up:  Knife > Gun
At distance: Gun > Knife
