Firearms and Accessories / The state of ammo supplies?
« on: July 16, 2021, 10:48:47 AM »
I haven't visited gun store for many months due to being busy with other things and am in need of 22 LR.  The last time I checked, supplies of 22 LR and other ammo were...well non-existant.  Is that still the case or do the local stores have it in stock?

General Discussion / Carcano M91/24 TS Rifle over at Buds
« on: July 23, 2020, 04:39:05 PM »
Just saw an email ad from Buds for the Carcano M91/24 TS Rifle for $249.

The TS stands for "Truppe Special" or Special Troop. These were purportedly used by the Italian Carabinieri and is chambered in 6.5 Carcano (6.5x52mm).

I love old stuff but getting one often means adding more reloading dies and supplies to my collection in order to shoot these things.

This rifle interests me but I know very little about it. Are these C & R rifles underpriced at $249 or that what its worth? Is ammo readily available and if so, how expensive is it?

I haven't seen the order yet but am already wondering what impact, if any, the EO may have on Youtube?

General Discussion / Murder Rates Per Capital

I think the video would have been more effective if it discussed gun murder rates rather than just murder rates.

Sorry if this was already posted

Looks like the removal of "assault-styled" rifles was simply a prelude to getting rid of all long guns for good.  Interestingly, Dick's does not attribute its declining sales to the decision to remove black rifles from its stores.

Wick and a Mosin versus the world in John Wick III

Time to dust off my Mosin and do a little Wick'n at the KHSC this weekend!

The definitive video on effective stopping power of handgun calibers? Maybe not but there is enough information in the video to incapacitate the viewer with 100% consistency.

I've already demonstrated in a previous post that the stopping power of a 9mm Glock is a myth.

Reloading / NOE Push Through Sizing Die and Bushings
« on: May 08, 2018, 11:43:41 AM »
I bit the bullet and decided to switch over from using Lee Sizing Dies to NOE sizing bushings and expander plugs. I should have done this from the start since I already have most of the Lee sizing dies needed. The Lee sizing dies usually cost me $20 - $23 per (pre-shipping) and have a limited selection. Honing the Lee dies to make them fit is an annoyance as is storing them because they tend to take up so much space.

The NOE sizing system requires the purchase of a Die Body Kit that cost a little less than two Lee sizing kits but the inexpensive sizing bushings make the system more cost efficient in the long run.

Die Body Kit - $39

Body Bushing - $9.75

The interchangeable bushings helps to keep clutter to a minimum and the fact that NOE offers more sizing bushings and an inexpensive punches to size the bullets base-first without damaging the nose are nice features.

NOE uses USPS Priority Mail to ship so it charges the same flat rate to Hawaii as it would to any other State. Its processing time is also 24 hours.

I would encourage other reloaders to check NOE out and compare the cost of NOE's systems with the rest of the competition.

CDC Reports that studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was 'used' by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies. ... Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008. Criminologist and researcher Gary Kleck, using his own commissioned phone surveys and number extrapolation, estimates that Americans use guns for defensive purposes 1.2 million times each year — and that 1 in 6 Americans who have used guns defensively believe someone would have died but for their ability to resort to their defensive use of firearms.

CDC also reported t hat the 1994 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (Brady Act) imposing a 5-day waiting period had no effect in the reduction in homicides.

Reloading / Anyone own a mini metal lathe?
« on: April 17, 2018, 02:01:01 PM »
I'm looking for an excuse to buy a new toy...oops, I mean a tool to fabricate reloading components.  Seems to me that you can fabricate a lot of reloading tools and components with a metal mini lathe.  I've seen people make bullet sizing dies from  7/8-14 stock and even turn down the surface of shell holders to bump the case shoulder further back.  Does anyone own and/or use one for reloading?

Reloading / NOE Expander Plugs
« on: April 12, 2018, 08:02:35 AM »
I just place an order for a set of NOE Expander Plugs for a couple of rifles that I shoot with lead cast bullets. My intention is to expand the case necks to match the diameter of the cast bullet after sizing instead of seating it after expanding the case necks using the standard Lee expander ball that comes with the FL resizing die. The NOE plugs I ordered are sized to give me .002 neck retention so there should be minimal crush or resizing of the cast bullet when the bullet is seated.  Has anyone used the NOE Plugs or something similar?

Interesting article. I have no idea whether anything said in this article is true or not. Just posting it here for all to consider.

Looks like NRA has filed suit challenging the constitutionality of Florida's new gun law restricting sales of firearms to anyone under 21 years of age.

Reloading / Does anybody do neck turning?
« on: January 16, 2018, 06:37:30 AM »
i made some 7.65x53mm Argentine Brass using .270 Winchester cases and am faced with having to turn down the necks in order to chamber the round. I'm contemplating on scrapping the whole project and springing for properly sized PPU or Norma brass instead to save on cost. Does anybody neck turn and if so, what system do you use and/or recommend?
