Reloading / Re: Removing pan lubed bullets technique
« on: May 20, 2014, 03:29:13 PM »
I once tried that melted lube in a cake pan method years ago.  All it took was one time and that experience convinced me to buy a Lyman luber.  The volume of bullets I used to shoot made the lube pan method to slow.  The lube machine also kept waste to a minimum which means that sticks of lube went a lot farther which made it more economical.  My bullets were not as messy and thus more enjoyable to reload.

Reloading / Re: Bees Wax for Bullet Lube
« on: May 20, 2014, 03:10:18 PM »
$25 a pound!  Wow!  Early on in my shooting career I mixed my own lube but gradually found it easier to just buy the commercial lube instead.  I used to have a neighbor that kept bees and I think I still have a small supply that he gave me 25-30 years ago.  I'll check later tonight when I get home.  I have always used the old standby NRA 50/50 formula lube and don't see any reason to change to the harder wax based lubes.  The harder wax lubes are not as messy but I've been faithful to the 50/50 mix and put up with the mess because of the accuracy benefits.  I have an almost lifetime supply of the 50/50 sticks salted away and can spare a stick if you haven't already tried beeswax/alox lubes.

Did anyone recognize that Norm's Sportsman's Shop was actually Security Equipment?

I don't know about you but it's a relief to me that the name Security Equipment will not be going away.  I drove by a few minutes ago and a film crew was setting up their equipment.  I assume it's Hawaii Five-0.  I guess the Norm's Sportsman's Shop is for the filming.

The sign change because of Hawaii Five-0 would be a relief.   I'll drive by today and see if there are any film crews in the area.

General Discussion / Norm's Sportsman Shop?
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:00:16 AM »
As I drove by Security Equipment (on Young St.) this morning I noticed a crew taking down the Security Equipment sign and installing a new sign that said "Norm's Sportsman Shop" or something like that.  Anyone know what is going on?  I called on the telephone but a recording said they are closed till Friday.

General Discussion / Re: Bank of America breaks ties with Mcmillan

I've never been a supporter of Bank of America ever since they decided to abandon the Hawaii banking market and closed their branches 14 years ago.  I feel even better about refinancing my mortgage with another local bank last year.  I like McMillan's response and support them fully.  I think I'll go out and buy myself another McMillan stock for my Remington 700.

Reloading / Re: Target Load for a 357/38

At 750-850 fps I like to use a HBWC with Bullseye.  I normally use 38 spl brass but it will also work in 357 brass. Speer, Hornady and Remington make some great HBWC's. With these bullets you need to keep velocities to around 750-800 fps to prevent leading.

20 ga coach shotgun with birdshot for me.  Short, light, double triggers and hammers.  Neighbors are way to close and lots of children in the home so I need to worry about over penetration.
