So did it arrive?  :hmm:

I think one packet of emergency rations (SOS Emergency Food Rations) is coming up on expiration date.  If anyone wants to sample, shoot me a DM.

Yup and some alfredo from MH.

The SOS taste like short break cookies.  I had a pack that lost it's vacuum seal.  Amazon replaced it and I ate the one that had the broken seal.  Good pre workout source for carbs.

SOS bars are good, coconut based.
Flavored ones are pretty good too
I posted before how my SIL was underweight for military entry.
Gave him a case of these and it definitely helped his cause.

My remainder is also approaching it's 5 yr lifespan so I need to reorder.

I used to own a 45 foot sailboat and kept this in the lifeboat.
SOLAS rated. Required for ocean racing.
I never did any ocean racing, I spend all my time and money
getting ready to do so.
Ended up selling the boat before I could do a Vic-Maui race.

Probably overkill.  They tasted like coconut.
They are out of them today, probably because every sailor in the world stocked up.

Still a good choice.
As for dates, that is usually just for the "authorities"
That stuff lasts forever if the individual packets
are still sealed.

I bought mostly to taste test a while back, as well as an opportunity to diversify what I have.  Would definitely be a decent option for bug out, but I don't really intend on bugging anywhere.

Yeah, I am not too concerned about the date for personal use.  I've eaten many canned goods that were way beyond their date.  Particularly recently.  Gotta watch out for mandarin oranges, those cans can be explosive.

I have year round access to local grown oranges, tangerines and such
so I don't do canned ones.
Good to know about Tin canned ones for guys not so lucky.
For canned goods I only watch for bulging, damage, and bad smells.
I've got stuff 8 years old and it is still good.

Used to have an awesome orange tree in the back of my parents house.  It was a combination navel orange with some jabon in there.  It was from an airlayer from an uncles house and other relatives were always either asking to pick oranges or for my dad to may airlayers for them.  Miss that tree. . .  :(

1 June is the first day of Hurricane season.  Forecast I heard this morning is that Hawaii is currently expecting a lower than normal season with 2-6 tropical cyclones.  Hopefully things stay that way and no big storms head our way.  Stock of things are seeming to be improving.  TP and PT stocks seem good, as well as stuff like rice and flour.  Still seeing shortages on Lysol aerosol spray, but I don't see those as essential items in Hurricane season.

deaths will always lag since it takes a while for the patients to get sicker and die...

also, if you watch 45s twitter feed, the death rate is getting lower...

If the new cases are trending into lower age groups and fewer "high risk" individuals, the death rates can't help but drop.

Did anyone notice that the incubation period for this new "wave" of infections coincides with the George Floyd protests?

Hmmmmm.......

May 25th was the date of his death.  Protests & riots started the next week.  Roughly 4+ weeks .... time enough to become infected, become a carrier yourself and then share with others who are now testing positive.

Second wave started more than a couple weeks ago. We should be seeing more deaths by now but it seems relatively stable.

this is not a second wave, the first wave never ended...
my theory is that the vit d levels here are higher due to more sun exposure
you would have thought with all our tourists from china, korea, and japan, we would have had CV here first and it would be the worst here, but our numbers have always been lower than most, if not all of the US...

Lil update from July 7

Just got this from Mayor Caldwell's conference:
25 cases in Honolulu (9 from gym cluster),
1 Kaneohe,
1 Kapalama,
1 Waimanalo,
3 Ewa Beach,
2 Waianae,
5 Kailua, and
3 Waipahu.
An airline cluster is up to 15. A food service has 4 cases with 3 family members as well,
A home products company has 3 cases and 1 family member,
a restaurant has 2,
care homes have 19 cases and 2 deaths,
and there is a Navy ship with 3 cases and 20 people in quarantine on the ship.
There were 2 travelers that went to Hilo and Kona respectively.

Nobody can find the #realdoctor to get a straight answer. Cases dipped for a while, then after lockdowns ended (and the riots) they spiked again. The media seems to be breathlessly waiting for an armageddon type scenario so that they can blame it on 45, but this looks like all the second wave we are going to get.
