General Discussion / Costco ammo cans
« on: August 13, 2023, 02:42:19 PM »
Wasn’t sure what thread this would have been good in, but bought these at Costco for $25.  Pack of 4.  About the size of 30cal cans.  Not sure how good they are gonna be, but at that price, decided to try em out.

Reloading / Factory Seconds
« on: November 28, 2022, 07:36:51 PM »
Never bought factory seconds before, so was wondering if anyone on here uses them in whatever caliber.  Have any of you reloaded that use factory second bullets noticed problems in diameter, weight, or any functional problems?  Or just cosmetic issues?  Wondering if the discount in price is worth it.  Read a few forums but just wanted to see what y’all think on here.  Thanks in advance for your input… 🤙🏿

Firearms and Accessories / AB3 aftermarket trigger?
« on: March 23, 2022, 08:28:21 PM »
Does anyone know if there is a company that makes an aftermarket trigger for a Browning AB3?  Just picked up one and I like the feel of it but the polymer trigger and trigger guard leaves a bit to be desired.

Firearms and Accessories / EDC pocket knife/Civivi Ortis
« on: April 28, 2021, 07:06:36 PM »
What is everyone carrying as their EDC knife?  I’ve been trying out a couple of Civivi’s (Ortis and Elementum) for the past couple weeks to about a month.  So far they have proven to be arguably the best budget folders that I’ve tried.  Haven’t had a ton of experience with different knives, but I have had carried and used knives at work and in everyday tasks in the $150-$200 range, and these have held up as good, if not better in some cases.  Just wanted to see what the community is packing in the pocket...

General Discussion / Gun emoji
« on: April 08, 2020, 10:32:43 AM »
Did anyone notice that the gun emoji for android (not sure about Apple iOS) got nerfed from a revolver to a little squirt gun? Someone probably complained it was too provacative... smh...

General Discussion / Cold bluing
« on: April 07, 2020, 08:34:27 AM »
Since being home so much lately, thought I'd take a stab at rebluing my Taurus 85. Just did the cylinder. I used a cold blue from brownells that I picked up from SEC a little while ago. Never had any experience doing this. Just went with the instructions on the bottle. I think it came out pretty good. There was very little rust that came off with some steel wool. The bluing seemed to take more in certain areas, so some spots aren't as blue as I would've liked. Wasn't planning on making a post on this originally, so no before pics. But it was pretty faded. Overall satisfied with the results... just thought I'd share...

Legal and Activism / Pistol Permit Signature?
« on: April 05, 2020, 01:16:23 PM »
Can anyone tell me if the transferor of a pistol has to sign the back of the transferee's permit to acquire in a private transaction, or any for that matter? It's been so long since I have done a transfer that the details of the process is a little blurry in my head. Thanks in advance...

General Discussion / Gun Related Statistics
« on: March 04, 2020, 09:56:43 PM »
Where do you guys go to get gun related statistics?  Was in a really good convo with someone about the magazine ban that lead to all types of gun related issues.  I really think I got the person thinking in the right light about our 2nd Amendment rights and how this new attempt to cripple the law abiding citizen won't benefit the community in any way (He was originally more on the "no dog in the fight" side of the fence). Throughout the conversation, he asked where I got all my information from and I told him that the only way to get real facts was to look up reliable source and not any conventional new media outlet, like a CNN, or NBC, because most of their data through "research" is agenda driven to sway the public or the casual information seeker in a certain direction.  So I told him that I went with the FBI.  I found a really good breakdown on the FBI website a while back.  It was the most reliable and least bias outlet that I could think of at the time.  But now I can't seem to find my way back to it, trying to navigate that new site is proving to be difficult.  The site is seems to be set up differently than it was when I first saw the data.

So, I was just wondering if anyone else has a good source of gun related data that I could use to do research... Mahalo in advance!!!

Firearms and Accessories / Backup Iron Sights - Obsolete???
« on: March 01, 2020, 04:18:57 AM »
Does anyone use BUIS anymore?  I'm pretty sure that no one uses them as a primary means, but do you even have them on your rifle?  I'm just finishing up a build and was about to buy a set of iron sights, maybe some troys, but noticed that a lot of people don't run iron sights on their uppers anymore.  Asked around and did some surfing and found that more and more people are starting to leave that out.  Especially for home defense rifles.  Some say that they've put irons on rifles that they've had for years and haven't flipped em up since they put em on.  It's about half and half.  Seems the optics nowadays are thought to be so reliable in some minds that the need for iron sights is no more.  Of course, the RDS or Holo is much faster, put dot on target and pull trigger, saving crucial seconds vice sight alignment. Plus, decent irons run you almost as much as a decent optic.  But what happens when the battery goes out?  I know you can carry a spare battery, but how long does it take to change that battery?  Crucial seconds.  What if that's not what went wrong?  What if the glass breaks or something else?   What do you guys think?  I'm probably still gonna buy the sights and slap em on.  I think that there's too many "What if's" out there for me to dump the irons just to save weight and rail space. Plus, it looks cool, because that's what really matters.  Gotta look cool...

Firearms and Accessories / Weapon light mount
« on: December 27, 2019, 05:10:55 PM »
I just bought an Arisaka super low profile light mount for one of my home defense ARs. And I love it. I have an older HSP Thorntail mount on a BCM that I have with an old M951. Kinda bulky, not too much but nothing like this Protac/Arisaka offset mount combo. Add pics later. Having trouble. Just wondering what light/mount you guys run on your rifles and thought I'd share my setup...

Strategies and Tactics / Carbine class?
« on: August 11, 2019, 03:08:39 PM »
Does anyone know of a carbine/pistol class here on the island? Interested in becoming more efficient with my rifle/pistol  in a self/home defense situation, should it present itself. I go to the range and plink, practice dry firing, reloading, etc. But really never any situational stuff. Also what kind of gear is recommended, stuff like that. Lemme know! Interested in your feedback. Mahalo!

General Discussion / Shotgun slugs and cylinder bores
« on: March 03, 2016, 06:31:23 PM »
What kind of damage, if any, will a 1oz 12 gauge slug do to a cylinder bore? Got some slugs but no rifled shotgun barrel. Do I even need a rifled barrel to enjoy these rounds? Can I safely shoot these out of a normal 18" cylinder bore barrel? Thanks in advance...

General Discussion / Questionable ammo
« on: February 24, 2016, 07:03:23 PM »
Howzit guys. I just recently acquired a load of old ammo including 25 auto, 9mm, 45 auto, 38 special (a lot of 38 special!), 12 gauge 00 buck and 1oz slugs. Most of them look clean and decent but a large amount looks questionable. My question is does discoloring on the brass and/or the bullet itself mean the ammo is deemed unusable? Most of the 45 auto looks bad, which is a bummer because thats my fav. Or is it okay to shoot. Also if anyone wants the 25 auto, it's up for grabs. There's 100 rounds in 2x50 round boxes. Lemme know. Would appreciate your input. Always get great insight on here. Thanks guys. Aloha...

General Discussion / 14.5" 5.56 AR15 barrel with pistol length gas system
« on: February 05, 2016, 05:16:29 AM »
Anybody have any experience with using a 14.5" barrel in their AR build that has a pistol length gas system? Recently acquired one, and was thinking of using it. Just wanted to know if anyone has used it and experienced problems with overgassing, buffer system issues, FTF/FTE, etc. Or even damage to their receiver extension from the buffer slamming. If so, any solutions? Looking for your horror stories. Thanks for the help guys...

General Discussion / Hunters Ed Course No Shows
« on: January 18, 2016, 10:26:42 PM »
Anyone have any luck sitting in for no-shows at the hunters ed course at Nimitz Center? Some friends and I were told we could replace them if they don't come. Is this true? I wanted to register but they're booked until March. Just wanted to see if it was worth our time to wait and see if we could get in, or just register and wait for our turn. Thanks for the help guys...

General Discussion / Carbine class on Oahu
« on: January 13, 2016, 03:17:23 PM »
Wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. Does anyone know of any carbine classes available for civilians to take here on the island, or anywhere in the state? Would like to take one. Looking forward to getting educated and having some fun with my rifle. Thanks for your time...

General Discussion / Counterfeits and fakes
« on: October 26, 2015, 10:33:24 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but I feel this must be put out there. I have just been ripped off by a member on this forum who sold an item thought to have been genuine, but turning out to be a counterfeit. I took it to a friend who has the same model to compare and found it to be anything but. So I took to the internet to research if there were any variants and found that mine was absolutely fake. Although knowing that it is my responsibility to be wary of such things, I feel robbed. And I also feel it is my duty to write this post. I dont know if there are steps to take, legal or otherwise, but I choose not to out the seller. Just want to put it out there. Be aware of these counterfeits and fakes, fellow honorable 2A members. That is all...
