Definitely check out some 9mm 1911s. Not sure what the latest and greatest is.

That’s what I was looking at when I changed my mind at the shop and got the Scorpion. Not sure if it was the elite though.
Scorpion had to be suped up. Just found out from a learned gentleman that OG Sig 1911 parts are stamped (pronounced crap) and intended to be changed. (How accurate that is I don’t know but I trust the guy)
I guess good thing I had all the guts changed, even before he told me that.
If I had a chance to do it all again I would’ve got the Springfield.
Happy now with the Sig though after having work done on her and she is sexy.

That RO Elite is a good looking gal too.

My other learned friend loves the CZ’s

Akubone, you only got 28 pages and a year to go.
Keep us posted.
Stamped?  I know/heard many folks crapping on Kimbers when they went to MIM parts.  At one time, I was looking at Kimbers, but that was back before the II series models.

Just noticed that model had an adjustable rear sight.  That would def be a great option for target pistol.  That said, SA RO Elite looks like an awesome setup for the money.

Glocks and CZ P10C use MIM firing pins. CZ P10C's had a few break, enough where people would buy the Cajun Gun Works bulletproof firing pin.  Never heard of Glocks having that much of an issue with theirs that people would upgrade it.

I’m guessing he calls MIM stamped.
Was curious why no one mentioned Kimbers. Used to have a good reputation for the older ones.

If you got the money Les Baer. I’ve never had the pleasure of shooting one though.

Still the CZ vs. 1911.
Only time and Akubone will tell.

IIRC, the MIM parts that caused much of the uproar with Kimber was mainly the hammer, and maybe some other parts.  I haven't had an issue with a Glock firing pin.  I've only replaced the action spring.

Yeah, I've shot the first gen Kimbers, or at least before the "II" models came out.  I think I was looking at the Eclipse II. Then I went Glock and ARs and by the time I got back to looking at 1911, seems like Kimbers were getting crapped on a lot.

I've shot a couple of Les Baers.  They have a great reputation, but from the ones I saw, the tight(ers) tolerances seemed to be more of an issue than improvement.  Could have been due to the owners maintenance or care, but I didn't know them well.

I'm betting Akubone gets a 1911 well before the length of time it took CMO to get one.   ;D

This is my main reason for spending on the Colt.  The Scorpion was 1st draft choice until I saw the M45. And then it grew on me more and more.  To a point where I went all in.

Aku, I hope you set a budget and go from there.  My budget was just on the gun itself. Not mags, ammo, equipment, etc...

you can get a smith to build you a 1911 from a Caspian frame for some of these prices.

Any local smiths that you would recommend for 1911 work?  Say minor tuning, sight fitting, etc?

Ed Masaki. I don't see him around often. When I first approached him he had a long wait list.
I did use Dave Salyer on the mainland. He's a mechanical engineer and shooter.

Ahh, I'll look up Dave Salyer.

It's been a while since I've seen Ed Masaki as well.  I think last time I saw him was 2019ish.

I have enough 1911s for now, don't shoot them anyway nowadays... down the 22LR BR rabbit hole......

However, if I were to think of 1911 pistols, I would probably order one from Wilson Combat or Alchemy Custom.

Wilson Combat doesn't need explanation.  Just choose a basic model and add-on whatever accessories/options you want like
adjustable sights, ambi-safety, cerakoted slide, etc.  Your price is what you ordered.

Alchemy Custom Weaponry:  Alchemy Custom Weaponry was started by Rob Schauland who used to work for Les Baer.
In the old Les Baer commercials, he's the guy in the orange shirt racking the slide on the Outdoor Channel on TV.  I sent three
Les Baer 1911 Premier II pistols to him, and he did a fantastic job at a reasonable price. He got an offer to basically manage
Cabot company which makes the really high-end 1911s.  Cabot bought his company - Alchemy Custom Weaponry which does gunsmithing
and produces a brand of their own.  Producing Alchemy 1911s was what Rob Schauland wanted to do with his company. I would buy a 1911 from
Alchemy before I buy a Cabot 1911..............

Sorry to high jack, but can you explain why you want a smith to do simple stuff like sights on a 1911?  I mean, can't someone who knows how to build an AR correctly do it?  Or is working on a 1911 like a 22LR tac driver rifle and is vudoo.

And what do you mean by tuning?

types of sight cuts. For example you can't install a Bomar sight on a slide cut for Novak.I tried installing sights on my slide and I did not have the right tools or the experience to do it. I also wanted a new front sight as my older Springfield had a staked on front sight. Dave Salyer cut a dovetail and installed a higher blade.

3) And what do you mean by tuning?
1) For stuff that need fitting.  Most (if not all) of the 1911 sites are dovetail, and not uniform.  Plus, many of the good aftermarket sights are oversized and meant to be fitted.  Prior experience is also a plus.
2) Very different, at least to me.  Assembly vs fitting.
3) Tweaking of things to ensure proper or better function.  Can be a variety of things.  Adjusting springs, filing, etc.
