I listened to about 5 minutes.
Very long-distance defensive pistol shooting is ok to build confidence and enhance marksmanship skill, but the cost vs benefit is not there.
Especially in the world of LEO training. The 50 yard course is plenty enough.

For civilians, it is absolutely a fun and beneficial thing to do if you have a lot of ammo to burn.
In actual practice you would not shoot a perp at 100 yards because he/she is not really an immediate threat to you.

If we are looking at defensive use of guns, you're going to have a tough time selling self defense as a justification when the "threat" is more than 50 yards away from you -- much less 100 yds.

I can see this as a great skill to have in cases of mass shootings or similar situations where you don't want to run up to within 25 yds to take a shot.  But for most SD/HD situations, you'll be in the same room, so 20 feet would be a good average max distance -- likely much less.

You mean everything I've seen in movies about gangsters is untrue?

Police officer Max Kennard killed a sniper on a roof with a pistol, over a distance exceeding 50 yards, shooting from street level. He was supposed to be carrying a Colt 45 Peacemaker. Say it ain't so.

I've seen "walk back" challenge in handgun courses go pretty far.  I've been to a couple that the final elimination was in the 70 yard range, and one that went out past 100 yards.   :o

The 100 yard + one was the 60% IPSC.

For the 70 yard one I think they were 10" diameter.
