I have experience with a full size 1911 and a Glock 17.
Based on that, for carry the 1911 is way heavier.

For whatever that was worth.

I have a compact 1911. Officer's model.
It's more finicky than a glock for various reasons.
I've carried it but it's not my first choice for ccw.
Pretty cool gun though.  :D

From my sample size of one each:  I've got a full sized 1911 that dislikes certain ammo, certain mags, and possibly dislikes me.  If I use Wilson Combat mags and a flavor of ammo that it likes it seems reliable, so there's a path forward, but it's been at a significant expense.  My glock 19 likes junk ammo like a fat kid likes junk food and functions with either oem or aftermarket mags.  I'm sure it's had an occasional stovepipe but it's far more reliable than the 1911.  The upside of the 1911 is that it's got a far better trigger.

I believe the expression goes:  "Show your 1911 to your friends and your Glock to your enemies."  That said, do you really have to pick just one?  My heart is big enough for both.

Lots of direct experience with Glock 19s.  Excellent pistol, suitable for a variety of uses, including CCW.

I have shot a number of compact and sub-compact 1911s, but haven't owned any.  From what little first hand experience and from experiences shared from trusted friends, compact 1911s can be finicky.  However, like any mechanical device, assuming proper maintenance and time/effort for tuning, can be fine.  Main take away for me is does prospective owner have time, willingness, and inclination to perform the tuning and maintenance?  I certainly do not.

Thinking about either.
For what purpose? Glock 19 or compact 1911, don't care for either, own both, prefer the Glock 19 for the same reasons given by Direjackalope.

For carry, I would go G19
How compact are we talking about for a 1911. Commander size? Or smaller?
Friend had a sub compact kimber and it jammed often and so tiny hard to get good grip to get the stuck round out of there

I sometimes think about a Springfield EMP compact 1911 9mm for carry but never shot one

that's another pistol I was considering - but I didn't bump into one at the dealers so far. I'm going to get the G19. Most economical and practical.

1911s have more that can go wrong under stress, grip safety and manual safety.  Also the weight and capacity.  The pistol mag ban is going away in a year or two so you can have 15 rounds in the Glock vs 7 or 10 in the 1911.

Factory Glocks come with 3 mags right?

According to Glock's manual, the G17-G48 come with "1 mag and 2 spares." The G44 has a separate manual, and states "1 mag and 1 spare."

I've been reading many who know some dealers who only include 2, then keep the third to sell separately and make a few more bucks.  Even when called out by customers who show the label printed at the factory states "3 Magazines," the dealers won't budge.

I also read someone's post saying Glock changed from 3 mags to 2 somewhere on the Glock website, but then changed back to 3.  I can't find that anywhere official, so who knows?

Yes.  Believe new/recent production models ship with 3 mags.  May find some "old stock" here and there.  As well as the occasional gun shop that would sell as 2 mags "factory standard".

If you end up getting a 19, let me know.  I can give you some 19 mags.  Many folks also use 17 mags.

From what I have seen Glock Gen 3 models come with 2 magazines total.

And Gen 4 and 5 models come with 3 magazines total

Glock is my go to. I have experience with G17, G19, G22, Taurus G3C, and a shitty little fun .380 by Jimenez Arms. Taurus was snappy because it was subcompact, .380 was better but was old and whacky design, but a G22 with a 9mm barrel is perfect for me and G17 is king.

I’m sure you can tell where my bias lies

I’d say Glock 19 for weight savings, capacity, and overall comfort and ease of use

I had a Springfield EMP9, but I like rails and being able to mount lights.

There is a noticeable weight diff between the 2 and size/mag size diff. 1911 gonna be bigger basically

Glock 19 was the go to gun when there weren't much other quality options and they're popular now just cause everyone had one.  There are better guns out nowadays.  HK, Sig, Walther, S&W etc with better ergos and trigger.

How much do you think it costs Glock to make a Glock? I'm guessing about $150 to manufacture a 19.
