Twenty-eight Google employees were fired after they held protests at Google offices across the US -- including staging a "die in" in the CEO's office.

The protest was in support of Palestine as the employees demanded Google cut business ties with Israel.

Since Google is teaming with Amazon on an IT project for Israel that's worth north of a billion dollars, I think the protesters are not likely to prevail.  And if that doesn't convince you, Google put those employees on administrative leave, told them to leave the property, and called the cops to have them trespassed and then arrested if they still refused to leave.     I imagine the number of arrests was less than the total, since I'm sure some valued their cushy jobs and paychecks more than they did a cause that has nothing to do with them.

Next, they'll be throwing tomato soup on priceless works of art.  I don't think these people care about the causes they protest for.  They just don't have anything more constructive to do -- other than their former jobs!

I was thinking there's a potentially untapped market out there.

How many times has someone asked you to help them move on a Saturday morning?  Or to help wash cars for your kid's school or scout troop's fund raiser?  Maybe you're expected to attend a wedding or kindergarten graduation?

For all those times you planned on finishing some chores around the house, reading a new book, or catching up on your favorite streams, you don't have to fake a headache or come up with an excuse  ......

Presenting:  The House-O-Rest Ankle Monitor!

Looks like a real ankle monitor used for those on house arrest or probation, but without the annoying visit by the Cops if you make a beer run!

So, next time your buddy says, "I'm moving this weekend.  Any plans?"  Show him your monitor and tell him you're under home confinement for the whole weekend.

Use your imagination for a cool explanation!   :geekdanc:

This is the product of an education system that treats pictures on hats and fingers as "guns".  Kids grow up with no respect for the real thing.

So, when they come up with these stupid games, they don't appreciate the seriousness of what they are doing.

Nobody thought to only use bright-colored squirt guns?

Off Topic / When a Scammer Causes a Murder
« on: April 17, 2024, 09:41:42 AM »
Just saw a YT video news report of a recent homicide where an 81 year old man in Ohio shot and killed an Uber driver -- a 61 year old female.

The scammer tried to pull the "I'm an officer of the court" scam in which a relative of the victim needs bail money.  After getting resistance to every demand for electronic payment, the scammer then threatened to kill the victim and his family if he doesn't pay the ransom.

The scammer then ordered an Uber to pick up "a package" at the victim's address -- no rider, just a pick-up and delivery order for the package.  It sounds like the scammer didn't tell the male victim about the Uber, just that someone would be there soon to get the money from him.

The Uber driver showed up and asked for the package, and the male victim thought she was working with the scammer -- the same person who just threatened to kill him and his family..

He chased her away brandishing a revolver, and he took her cell phone.  I guess she wanted her phone back and wouldn't leave without it.

Investigators called the scammer who answered the phone and identified himself as also law enforcement.  They set up a time to meet, but the scammer never showed.

Can we sue politicians for a terrible job?

Qualified immunity.

They aren't qualified, so they need immunity.

The English language is confusing.
How come 22 is twenty two,
33 is thirty three and
11 is NOT oney one?

Should be "ten-one", right?   :geekdanc:

twenty + one = twenty-one
thirty + one = thirty-one

So, ten + one should = ten-one

English is a derivative language having its main roots in German.

The German name for "11" is "elf" (cardinal) or "elfte" (ordinal).  Hence, "eleven."

It's supposed to be the Government's burden to prove a person is disqualified from owning a firearm.

Mayor says public safety is #1.  Sounds like interest balancing.

Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but Rick sounds like a 100% no-question-about-it gun-hating Democrat who's using "Hawaiian Culture" (i.e Aloha Spirit) to justify ignoring the rights of individuals to provide for their own safety without depending on government.

I didn't grow up in Hawaii, so I guess I'm part of the gun culture in the US.  Rick seems to believe I should abandon MY culture and adopt HIS simply because he believes it increases safety.  What happens when someone born and raised in HI travels and/or moves to the mainland because they can't afford it here?  They will be ill prepared for self defense because the wonderful people running HI decided they don't need to be able to carry or use a firearm.  The Aloha Spirit won't protect them at all.  Not everyone has the option of living on these tiny islands in the middle of the Pacific from cradle to grave where Big Brother pretends to keep them safe.  Even while traveling out of state for work or pleasure, HI residents deserve the right to prepare for whatever potential threats they may encounter.

Rick has a pretty narrow view of life, liberty and safety in general.

Sad pictures.
Reminds me of Chinatown, Kalihi, Kaimuki, Moiliili and Waipahu too.
Basically, the homeless will camp out anywhere there are convenient places to buy supplies.

My big brother lived in SFO.
He moved away to NV.

Crime has been a part of life in SF for decades.  It's just become more rampant and blatant since there's little enforcement today.

Did you know? ... There was a mass shooting in SF at 101 California St in 1993.  Using 3 handguns, the shooter killed 8 and wounded 6 before committing suicide.  This event was used to help justify the 1994 National Assault Weapons Ban, though the connection between the two escapes me.

Quote
While both James Monroe and John Adams supported the Constitution being ratified,
its most influential framer was James Madison. In Federalist No. 46, Madison wrote
how a federal army could be kept in check by the militia, "a standing army ... would be
opposed [by] militia." He argued that State governments "would be able to repel the
danger" of a federal army, "It may well be doubted, whether a militia thus circumstanced
could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops." He contrasted the
federal government of the United States to the European kingdoms, which he described
as "afraid to trust the people with arms", and assured that "the existence of subordinate
governments ... forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition"

Not much has changed in the last 233 years since the Second Amendment was ratified.

That is, if you ignore the fact the federal government is more of a threat to personal liberty than ever before....

That's how the FBI was able to illegally spy on Presidential Candidate Trump's campaign, President Trump's administration, and everyone related to or associated with President Trump.  If they can do that to a future and sitting president, what's that say about the rest of us?

I don't paint with as wide a brush as you do.
Mine is all Democrats should be disarmed.
That will will make the USA the safest country in the world.

I don't think the Democrats are a violent threat as much as an ideological one.

Taking guns from them won't make them safer.  They need to be prevented from maintaining or increasing the political, economic and societal power they've accumulated.

I suppose I agree with the license part.
But having seen how much Native Americans have destroyed
hunting and fishing in WA state for "subsistence food".
I disagree with the rest.
You ever see  a Puyallup  Indian passed out drunk, with a station wagon full of netted salmon.
on a hot day?
Non Indian limit is two.
He had over two hundred, rotting.
They get first shot at the harvest.
Respect for the land and nature , my ass!
 :grrr:

Native Americans were well, NATIVE! They have an indigenous right to the spoils

The salmon wouldn't be spoiled if not for the NATIVE.

Glad you made it home ok despite the weather and power issues.

As far as taxes, I just sent thousands of dollars to the Federal Government to use against me.

What can I do?  I am a citizen of this country, led by a bonafide retard.

A few of us from my office at Pearl Harbor went to lunch together 4-5 days every week.  Bandito's at Pearl Ridge was one of our regular spots.

The owner, Ted, came to the table once and had a weird smirk.  He told us, "I just had my tax return done, and i owe the government a bunch of money.  You know  what that means?  It means i had a really great year thanks to customers like you!  Today's lunch is on me."

And our lawmakers want u disarmed against a younger and stronger evil person.

it's hard to justify the cost of all the federal and local law enforcement agencies if half the time they only get calls to report on the bad guy getting shot.  Those cases almost solve themselves. You know who shot him, and you have a good idea why.

I'm not debating the line between common military tasks and knowledge such as small arms marksmanship, drill and ceremonies, customs and courtesies, etc., and specialized duties like mass communications or C4I.

You said "Since when is public affairs considered 'a phase of military duty?'' which led me to believe that you did not consider public affairs to be a military duty.  I pointed out that public affairs (or mass communication) specialists would likely disagree with you about that, and that mass communication is an area where a sailor might be assigned EMI.  I didn't say a single word about the relative importance of Photoshop proficiency vs. small arms proficiency or CBRN or anything else...  you brought that up as a straw man.

My point, in case you missed it: Public affairs is a military duty; it's not exclusively a military duty, but neither is shooting or wearing a gas mask.  As a military duty, public affairs is an area within which a sailor may be assigned EMI if they are found to be deficient in their proficiency/duty performance.

Thank you for your service, sincerely.

i never said shooting and wearing a gas mask is exclusive of military training.  I said those are areas that all members in the military learn regardless of their specialty skill set.

Public affairs can be a person's job in the military, but that doesn't make it a "phase of military duty."  in the Air Force, enlisted are trained in "ancillary duties," meaning that regardless of whether they are programmers, comm techs, intel analysts, cooks or mechanics, they may also be assigned to guard duty, duty drivers, ...

Note: AFSC means Air Force Specially Code, similar to the Navy MOS code (Military Occupation Specialty).

Quote
7.1. Program Description. Ancillary Training is universal training, guidance or instruction,
regardless of AFSC, that contributes to mission accomplishment. It does not include functional,
occupational or additional duty training.

This includes more than war fighting training.  It also includes physical fitness, operational security, ... pretty much every mandatory training require for every member is ancillary to their primary function.

In fact, many primary jobs in the military, including the Navy, has their training performed by private contractors or SPAWAR civilians -- both ashore and afloat.  I've attended and presented training classes for lots of sailors while working at CINCPACFLT for 10 years as a contractor.

Yes, their jobs are the duties needed to perform their military missions.  No, I don't consider that "military" training.

Maybe I lived it for so long on both sides of the active duty/military contractor sides, I have a more definitive understanding of the differences.  If I haven't conveyed my understanding in the right words, it's because the line is ambiguous at the treetop level.  It's hard to explain how someone like that Navy Commander who might have been a pilot (I didn't research him, but so many in command are former pilots in all branches), doesn't have the basic training to know what he's doing for an M4 demonstration.   That's not something he would have been taught in flight school.  It would have been a separate day of training and qualifying unrelated to his flying duties.

That's just an example of how I see the division.  Not saying he's a pilot.  He could just be some admiral's son who worked in public affairs.   :shaka:
