Reloading / Best Places on Oahu for Powder?
« on: August 29, 2018, 10:20:10 AM »
I was wondering where the best places on Oahu to get powder are. I'm mainly interested in cheapest price and keeping powder regularly in stock. I don't really care about the quality of the powder,  as I won't actually be reloading with it. I'm wanting to learn to make gun powder art.

Political Discussion / The NRA Must Die
« on: March 03, 2018, 01:22:59 PM »
I know this is going to be a very controversial topic in this community, and many of you will passionately disagree with what I'm about to say. I hope that despite these disagreements,  we can keep the conversation cordial and stay friendly and supportive of each other on other matters.
That being said,  the NRA must die.
I've long since disliked the NRA. From their history of anti -LGBT comments ( https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2018/02/5-examples-prove-nra-hates-lgbtq-people-much-gun-control/ ), to they're complete lack of empathy and tact  ( ), I have always felt they put a bad face on the gun industry and community.
But this:
 http://variety.com/2018/politics/news/ajit-pai-nra-cpac-1202709775/
is the last straw.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the net neutrality issue, I highly encourage you to learn more from sites such as Save the Internet and Battle for the Net. It is a very serious issue that,  if passes,  could entirely destroy the internet as we know it,  and small sites like this would completely vanish from existence. I have yet to talk to a SINGLE person who had actually looked into this issue more than the blatant lies the ISPs are spreading and not know it to be an atrocity.
And after the FCC,  and specifically their chairman Ajit Pai,  pass the vote to kill net neutrality, the NRA actually has the audacity to give this man an award?
This is unacceptable, plain and simple.

Now I know that this situation is a little more complicated for us. For those of us who ate instructors,  NRA certification is a requirement in this state. I even got my pistol cert before I moved here, but I did it only because I needed a piece of paper that verified I knew what I was talking about,  not because I liked the NRA curriculum (which I don't.) So renew your certs as needed,  I know I have to renew mine next month,  but don't give them another cent otherwise.

Yes,  the NRA has protected gun rights more than any other group out there,  but that is only because they are the most known with the most money. But if we instead give our support to other groups such as 2AF, GOA, and NSSF, then they can become bigger and fight for our rights without making is look bad and supporting  asinine policies that have nothing to do with what we donate to them for.

I know it won't happen quick or easy,  but it's time to start the process. The NRA must die.

Recruitment and Advertising / Pink Pistols
« on: February 23, 2018, 12:34:43 PM »
I've been entertaining this idea recently to help get more people into guns,  or even just help get people less afraid of them.
Why don't we start a Hawaii chapter of the Pink Pistols?
For those who aren't familiar with the Pink Pistols (pinkpistols.org), it's a shooting club intended to teach gay people how to safely and effectively use a gun to defend themselves. "Armed gays don't get bashed, " as they say.
According to some quick Google fu, Hawaii has the second largest LGBT community per capita in the nation, giving us a large demographic to try to recruit. I'd be willing to organize it (if no one more qualified is up for it), but a few instructors to help volunteer to teach, or some people who have been in this state longer than me and know how to reach the community better would be most helpful.
What do you guys think? Would such an organization help our community grow in numbers and strength?

Preparedness and Survival / Orienteering
« on: February 10, 2018, 03:07:36 PM »
So after a little research,  I've discovered there is 0 orienteering (navigating with map and compass) in Hawaii outside of military land nav training (and I can personally attest that that is minimal. ) I really enjoy orienteering,  and was thinking of maybe getting a club going,  was wondering of anyone was interested, or even if anyone could recommend a suitable location on Oahu to do it. From my research I've found plenty of trails,  but can't really tell what wooded areas the public are allowed to just roam around,  off the beaten trail.

General Discussion / Looking for Cheap Ammo
« on: February 10, 2018, 02:02:49 PM »
Where can I get the cheapest ammo per round on Oahu? I'm willing to buy in bulk of possible.  Mainly interested in 9mm and .45ACP.

Preparedness and Survival / Survival Training

Is there any place in Hawaii that teaches survival/bushcraft skills? I haven't found any,  and I'm thinking about teaching a land navigation class.

Strategies and Tactics / Intermediate to Advance Training on Oahu
« on: November 16, 2017, 09:28:33 AM »
I'm trying to find some instructors on island that teach more than just the basic safety and marksmanship classes.
KMConcepts advertises low light pistol and carbine simunition on their site,  but after talking to the guys in person,  or turns out they no longer have the facilities to offer it and can only do it if you can provide them.
Kanehoe Gun Shop has a page full of cool training they offered in the past,  but I've emailed them three times over the course of a few months about future training to no response.
X Ring has a concealed carry course,  but $300 for a course that only uses 100 rounds is clearly a rip off,  and I don't trust ranges that make you but their ammo.
So from what I can tell,  the only guy remaining is North Shore Marksman with three pistol courses and a shotgun course.
Even when I did a bit of looking on other islands,  all I saw was,  again,  basic safety and marksmanship.  It's NSM really the only place in the state with what I'm looking for?

Legal and Activism / Legal Confusion in Becoming an Instructor
« on: September 06, 2017, 05:32:48 PM »
Aloha everyone,  I'm relatively new to Hawaii and am having some difficulty,  was hoping someone could help me.
I got stationed at Schofield when I enlisted, and have since been studying the laws and figuring out how to get my guns on island, now they're on the way.
I was wondering if anyone can answer a question. I'm an NRA certified pistol instructor, and want to start teaching classes on island to make extra cash. When looking at the law dealing with who can sign the affidavit to get a license, it says, "... or class conducted by a state certified or National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor. ." "State certified" is the thing tripping me up here. I can't find anything on how to become state certified. Can anyone help out?
