General Discussion / Airguns Hawaii
« on: May 22, 2024, 09:26:05 AM »
This store is located in Wahiawa, and yelp says that it is currently closed.

Has any member ever used their shooting range?

Second question, where can an airgun owner try out this rifle in Oahu?

Very poor acknowledgement to one of the last big power outages on Oahu:

https://x.com/HwnElectric/status/1792104184545738902

From a cursory read, it appears to have started in Mililani at around 11:15 PM Saturday May 18, 2024. It hit my neighborhood around midnight. My security cam shows a black hole ending at 3:43 AM on Sunday. I estimate 100K customers experienced the blackout, based on the fact that it struck town. Uganda has a better power grid. As usual, the HECO employees monitoring X (Twitter) posted few updates before and after the outage.

Anyone have ideas on how to set up a hospital grade backup power system? It needs to support either a freezer or refrigerator for several days. MRE and dry foods are only a partial solution. Real men like pizza, frozen or refrigerated. Cold beer is a must. Is dry ice (CO2) viable? I think Thermoelectric refrigerators can work at 12 V, but what's hospital grade?

Also known as Burning - Looting - Mischief. In hock for millions to vendors and donors. Guilty of self-aggrandizement, using politics to incite disobedience, and attempting to usurp the justice system. They dishonor our forefathers.

Puffy Ron announced today, and appears to have the backing of Elon Musk.

Elon is buttering up Ron to get the next Tesla factory built in Florida (after Disney abandons the state). I can't wait for the first debate. Ron had better hire a good comedy writer.

The girl of my dreams just won the 2023 Miss Universe contest, and she is a Filipina with talent as a clothes maker.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/rbonney-gabriel-first-filipino-american-163805785.html

She's a native from Houston, TX, and her father emigrated to the U.S. with only 20 bucks in his pocket. There's a guy who knows the value of money.

Miss Gabriel is welcome to visit this uber expensive state (HI), where she can educate all the "princesses" and "trophy wives" who tink their husbands are King Midases.

General Discussion / Nightly Nuge Recommendation on Coyote Problem
« on: August 23, 2022, 11:53:25 AM »
A very humorous discussion with Ted Nugent was broadcast in late July, and the guests exchanged opinions on the best rifle for coyote hunting.

Martha Stewart lost six expensive peacocks to varmints, and she was desperate for advice. I see very little difference between 5.56 and .223 Remington ammo prices. Therefore, it all comes down to whether an owner has a rifle chambered for .223 in his/her collection, and whether they are more comfortable with bullet drop specs of their ammo.
There are no known coyotes in HI, except perhaps in the state legislature. Which state on the mainland offers the best hunting expeditions? It looks like non-residents may have to pay for out-of-state hunting licenses.

Firearms and Accessories / Sig Sauer's P320-XTEN
« on: July 08, 2022, 10:42:35 AM »
This 10MM handgun was released about a month ago. Without too many examples in the state, I was wondering about replacing my 10mm Glock with this weapon. When the first shot has to be your best shot, the Sig P320-XTEN with a red dot sight would likely be my best choice for late stage hunting defense. Liberty Self Defense rounds have a muzzle velocity of 2400 fps, and might be useful in other applications.

Sig Romeo sights are not exactly my first choice in sights, which means I might delay the purchase for a year while other makers tool up their offerings in plates and shrouds. Usually in the second and later years of manufacturing, Sig makes improvements to the gun itself, and this might factor into the decision to be a first adopter or a wait-and-see buyer.

Firearms and Accessories / Is this a Rifle, or Is this a RIFLE?
« on: June 28, 2022, 12:36:57 PM »
It's called an Alligator, 2 meters long, and because of the suppressor, you can't get it in Hawaii.

"Makes a .50 BMG look like a pop-shooter." Seriously, an anti-materiel rifle would be good against Russian tanks invading Honolulu along Kalanianaole Highway. Major choke point, and the main way to reach KHSC.

Off Topic / How States View One Another
« on: June 21, 2022, 09:36:36 AM »
This question was on the humor sub-forum on Reddit.

Notice that HI is missing from the Texas submission. Yeah, Hawaii is a foreign country to many mainlanders, so get out of America, foreigner.

As a resident of this state (HI), I will always remember Texas as the last state to free black slaves, the place where JFK was assassinated, and the region where their hats are oversized relative to their heads. TX police are big talkers who do not live up the the reputation of the Texas Rangers (the most effective LEO's of the state). Sadly, for Uvalde, CBP (feds) had to deal with the shooter. Without the Emancipation Proclamation, I can imagine certain red states turning native Hawaiians into slaves.

Legal and Activism / Upcoming Congressional Anti-Gun Legislation
« on: June 12, 2022, 06:33:49 PM »
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/gun-control-deal-group-of-senators-including-10-republicans-announce-breakthrough/ar-AAYnyhN

The threshold of acceptance has been lowered to get a least 10 Republican senators to support the bill. Too early to tell if egregious anti-gun provisions will be added to the legislation. Five talking points seem to be "socially correct":

a. Support for state crisis intervention
b. Investment in children and family mental health services
c. Protections for victims of domestic violence
d. Funding for school-based mental health and supportive services
e. Funding for school safety resources

FFL restrictions may or may not be acceptable. It is important that ideas be vetted across both all parties to the discussion.

Legal and Activism / Bill to Ban Body Armor in NY
« on: May 26, 2022, 04:52:41 PM »
I know, you're scratching your head thinking, how could this possibly be true?

First, as Anthony points out, protective armor falls under the definition of arms in Black's law dictionary. Second, why punish lawful users because a small number of criminals have exploited its use?

Write to your Hawaii state legislators to snuff any copycat attempts to ban body armor. The criminals would still find away to get it from the mainland, while the rest of us are nekked. I was planning to get the 3A body armor recommended by Kentucky Ballistics after summer. But, I'll have to accelerate my buying decision.

General Discussion / Secret U.S. Plans for Apocalyptic Scenarios
« on: May 26, 2022, 12:12:39 PM »
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/documents-shed-light-on-secret-u-s-plans-for-apocalyptic-scenarios/ar-AAXLmoW

The above articles does not spell out any of these plans, but there is a link to one document sitting in the Brennan Center's web site. This paragraph in the article may be of concern to gun owners:

"Underscoring how little lawmakers and the public can infer, another file, from the summer of 2008, mentioned that Justice Department lawyers were revising an unidentified draft order in light of a recent Supreme Court opinion. The memo does not specify the ruling, but the court had just issued landmark decisions on topics that could relate to government actions in an emergency — one about gun rights in the United States and another about the rights of Guantánamo detainees to court hearings."

When/if martial law is declared, will the government seize weapons or ammo from civilian owners? Both the HPD database and the ATF records could be scanned to determine who owns what. I doubt that any weapons taken during an emergency will ever be returned to the owners. One problem with the second amendment is the phrase, well-regulated militia, in the sentence, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Who decides what is well-regulated as opposed to citizen-formed?

Legal and Activism / Possible Age Reduction for Obtaining a Gun
« on: May 14, 2022, 08:41:08 AM »
This would be good news for 18 year olds in the state of California. Such a precedent could lead to a change in the law in HI. Being able to vote at 18, and being allowed to enlist in the military to defend the country, tells us that no rights should be restricted for those who reach the age of adulthood.

Political Discussion / The Constitution Doesn't Say That!
« on: May 13, 2022, 01:33:12 PM »
LegalEagle is a youtuber who posts a lot of videos on the interpretation of the law.

He begins with the quote, "From each according to his ability, To each according to their needs." Around 72% of Americans thought this was in the Constitution. This doesn't surprise me. I'll bet you that this sentence would go over with a 90% attribution: "From each according to their prejudice, to each according their faith, and if it differs from mine, nada to them."
The Constitution is blowing in the wind, and its interpretation is subject to the Eyes of Tammy Faye, or whoever is in power. I would bring back Tammy, as she was more pure of heart.

Off Topic / Homelessness Problem (a la Texas)
« on: May 09, 2022, 04:47:59 PM »

The law in a nutshell: Fine people who attempt to camp in a public area. This will probably not get very far in Hawaii, but other states are trying out the idea. I have yet to see an encampment in the Hawaii Kai area, but we now have security guards in certain shopping complexes, like the Safeway/Longs mall off Keahole Ave. Sooner or latter, the quality of life will degrade enough that the homeless will be everywhere. In town, the homeless are already on Nimitz Highway and Punchbowl street. Rumors are circulating that TX is sending their homeless to Oahu. We can't relocate these invaders back to the mainland, but we can send them to American Samoa, by bribing the local government. Prior to the 20th century, governments arrested the unwanted, and hit them with enough fines so they became debtors. The liberals would likely oppose such laws.
