Goodbye, Front Sight ... Hello, PrairieFire
« on: July 04, 2024, 01:21:38 PM »
In late 2022, Front Sight was officially in bankruptcy.  The acquisition of Front Sight by Prairie Fire.

Articles and emails said they intended to reopen by Sept 2023.  I can't find the actually date of reopening, but it appears to have happened.

Along with training classes (categorized under the webpage heading "Book Classes"), it looks like they've added a bunch of competitive shooting events.

Worth a glance if interested in training and/or sport shooting competitions.

What happened to all those who bought the FS memberships?

In bankruptcy, people got paid up to 25% of their memberships bought directly from FS, depending how.much it was used.  Everyone got one year of basic prairie fire membership, which doesn't offer much - free shooting at one bay and like 10% off classes or something like that.  Annual membership and fees are pricey, so I just go to Clark county range instead

I paid about $3000 for my membership and upgrades when they first started.  I came out ahead with all the classes I took and credits I used to buy stuff and memberships I sold.

Front Sight members got a 2 year Frontier membership which is barebones, just able to use 2 ranges there.  $200 a year thereafter.

It's close to a year since their grand opening and there's hardly any talk or reviews on Prairie Fire on the net.  Must be a very small operation.  They hold some special events periodically, and offer some basic courses.  A 2 day basic pistol course is $400 and requires 800 rounds.  That's a reasonable cost.  They must have their own course curriculum since the original FS course req about 250 rnds.

I may go down there in January to use the range and look around though it's a far drive.  I'm also interested in how Pahrump.is fairing since FS was the major.industry in the area.

I bought my membership directly from FS and I didn’t get anything or even a notice.  Previously I would get emails twice a week trying to get me to buy a higher level membership with thousands of FS $ added.  I paid about $500 total and went there 5 times and got couple range bags and 50 full size silhouette targets using those FS$ so I guess I got my money’s worth.

I learned my lesson after.  If you get credits from something, use it all right away  :D.

I bought a lot of holsters, belts, glasses, and other stuff from the pro shop, and shot the machine guns a lot.  But still had a couple thousand in credits at bankruptcy.
