buying normal capacity magazines online
« on: June 28, 2024, 07:26:53 AM »
Several years ago, I used to be able to buy normal capacity AR, Colt AR9, AK, etc, magazines online. I can't find a single online retailer that will ship to Hawaii now. Each online retailer now claims that they are illegal here. But, they are not. Why won't they ship anymore? And how did they come to this conclusion?

Several years ago I knew this was coming, and kept scouring the internet trying to find a dealer that would send the mags to Hawaii without claiming they were illegal.

I found a couple and loaded up.  I can't remember the supplier(s).

Yeah, the Aloha Spirit in this damn banana republik is just fuckin wonderful.

They won’t ship because it technically can fit in a pistol so they deemed it illegal! If they make a pistol version of a rifle then no can
Oh ignorant youth, the world is not a joyous place. The time has come for you to dispense with the frivolous pleasures of childhood and get down to honest toil until you are sixty-five. Then and only then can you relax and collect your social security and live happily until the time of your death!

That isn't correct.  HI has a definition for a pistol and for an assault pistol.  Current law states pistol.

The AG's office sent letters to many online sellers telling them it's illegal here. The AG is WRONG AGAIN (in col Sanders voice from Waterboy).

Adjacent question.

If I bought 10 round handgun mags in the mainland or 30rd AR mags, can I bring them back in luggage with no issues?

What about if my friend in the mainland shipped them to me? Don’t want them getting any BS issues.

No issues if you bring them home in your checked luggage and not carry on.

With regard to your friend shipping them to you, as long as they're legal in your friends state as well.

Parts of Guns and Firearms
Carry On Bags: No
Checked Bags: Yes (Special Instructions)
Firearm parts, including frames, receivers, magazines, clips, bolts and firing pins, are prohibited in carry-on, but may be transported in checked bags. Check with your airline to see if they allow firearms in checked bags.

why are they an issue in a carry on?

The issue is a half dozen passengers working together, each carrying a specific part assembling a firearm in flight.

This has been a fear for explosives as well, which is why they limit amounts of toiletries and ban filled water bottles.  Components for a chemical explosive can similarly be carried onboard and mixed together.  One person with one water bottle is not that suspicious.  Several with water bottles taking them one at a time to the lavatory is TSA's fear.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Common sense tells me that if you need to study a law book to figure out if you are breaking a law, then there are too many laws.

Our esteemed legislators are trying to micro-manage every aspect of our lives.

I used to be able to mail-order cigars and enjoy sitting at the range with my friends, chatting about guns or anything else while enjoying a fine cigar.
Heck, I used to be able to enjoy a cigar while shooting too.

Now you have to study a law book to see if you're breaking a law by shooting a particular rifle or pistol with a particular magazine.
Now, we can't sit around any more because the gate is locked at 4pm.
Now I can't mail-order any of my favorite cigars because they passed some new law just last year.
Now half of the shooting range is shut down because they found lead. What a surprise.
Now if your e-bike goes faster than 20 mph it's illegal.

Micromanagement doesn’t work. Any successful business administrator can tell you that.

Welcome to Zangaro.
Ok, I'm done ranting.

I think the US supreme court just tossed all the ATF regulations not based in Congressional law.
Give it some time.
Hawaii has a lot of stupid unconstitutional laws most all of us ignore,
just don't be too obvious, or you will have to prove it in court.

AIM Surplus will. Just ordered some 30 rounders.  They had Amend2 gen 2 mags for 6.95 apiece.  Shipping for 15 was a little over $15.00
