Political Discussion / Re: only in America...

Unfortunately dictators becoming dictators don't really follow the process of a bill becoming law now do they?

Would you wait for Hitler to come to power before protesting him? After all, the logic of your rebuttal is to basically say wait until the person actually becomes a dictator (in other words when it is too late). And no I am not saying Trump is like Hitler.

Trump has exceeded his authority numerous times in going to war, executive orders, trying to circumvent the constitution (birthright citizenship) etc. He has put people in place who put loyalty to him over to country, he has enriched himself and his family with the office of the president (far more than even Hunter Biden), he has mentioned not leaving office, he pardoned people who tried to keep him in office after he lost, he renamed a building after himself, he protects his side with the DOJ. I could go on but for many no amount of evidence will ever be enough. They will call it fake news or something else to help them rationalize away Trump's worrying authoritarian tendencies.

Since we haven't had an actual dictator in the Presidency in my lifetime, any comparison you try to draw between a president -- any president -- and an actual dictator from recent memory, your comments are nothing but hyperbole.  The majority of the actions you listed were dishonestly propagandized by a Trump-hating media.

Obama exceeded his authority many times.  So did Biden.  But only Trump is a dictator?  Maybe if the media had been as critical of those two as they have Trump you and others would have a more grounded opinion on what constitutes a dictatorship.

Typical TDS BS taking up space in the forum.

Is there a problem with protesting something you think is going to happen but hasn't happened yet? Should we not protest a proposed gun law until after it passes?

Trump need not have become a dictator in order to hold a protest if one believes he is on the path to become one. Now you may not believe that Trump is on the path to become one, despite increasing authoritarian actions to the contrary, but they obviously do so for them there is a basis.

I already pointed out that protesting a dictator after they become a dictator becomes a lot harder so it makes perfect sense to protest before it happens.

Trump won less than 50% of the total votes and his support numbers have been falling so there is little to no basis to support your assertion that the majority want him running things.

Why is Trump being protested when he won the election clearly? What does that matter, being popular doesn't have any bearing on whether he is on the path to being a dictator.

Protesting a bill that's been proposed to the legislature doesn't need to become law before a protest.  A bill is 100% more of a basis to protest than "something you think is going to happen but hasn't happened yet."

You're comparison is as stupid as your protesting against things people think might happen.

This belief is no different than believing you're a woman in a man's body.  It's all in your mind.  Getting others to validate your delusion doesn't make it a protest.  It makes it stupid x however many people you convice to march.

You made assertions such as "he is on the path to being a dictator."  Where is your evidence that assertion is true?

Democracies have elected dictators before and dictators also often have popular support, they are not always military coups.

People laugh at the protest, asking where the dictator is but that misses the point. The idea is to protest before someone becomes a dictator because once they become one then it becomes a lot harder to stop them. Though these protests seem to have a wide swath of people so I wouldn't be surprised if some believe he is currently a dictator.

In my opinion Trump isn't a dictator but he is headed in that direction and I would rather make the mistake of believing that he will become a dictator than make the mistake of believing that he won't become a dictator.
Is it your belief that protests should be held in spite of the fact there is no basis for it?

Let's protest Skynet, because it might exist one day in the future based on fictional stories and movies.

Let's protest the development of viruses that might one day cause a zombie apocalypse.

Let's protest the use of time travel used for personal financial gain.

Maybe we should also protest the Matrix before it ever happens.

Based on your rationale, we should have been protesting every president since Washington, just because each one MIGHT decide to oppress the people.

Question:  Why is Trump the only one being protested when his last election win was clear and decisive.  The majority want him running things.

Key objectives and milestones:

Furthest distance ever traveled: Designed to travel farther from Earth than any humans have gone before,
reaching approximately 4,700 miles (7,600 km) beyond the Moon before returning to a splashdown in the
Pacific Ocean on April 10, 2026.

Crew History: The mission includes the first woman (Koch), the first person of color (Glover), the oldest
person (Wiseman), and the first non-U.S. citizen (Hansen) to travel beyond low Earth orbit.

Lunar Observation: On Day 6, the crew will reach its closest approach to the lunar surface (4,000–6,000 miles)
and become the first humans to directly view and photograph the far side of the Moon.

Mission Goals: The flight serves as a critical test for the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft,
validating life-support and communication systems for future lunar landings planned for 2028.

Re-entry: The spacecraft is expected to re-enter Earth's atmosphere at roughly 25,000 mph (40,000 km/h)
to conclude the mission.

According to the IRS, HIFICO's federal tax exempt status was automatically revoked
for not filing a Form 990-series return or notice for three consecutive years.

**Important note: Just because an organization appears on this list, it does not mean the organization is currently revoked, as they may have been reinstated.

Trace the IP address or ping the location to a residential address.  Then enter and demand who's account is this or take everyone to jail.
More like, make it the parents' responsibility.  Just knowing that letting their kids on the Internet could land the parent's in prison would cause most parents to restrict access and monitor their kids.  Basically, the parents wold be more of a preventive party, whereas you're focused on identification and punishment.

What would stop a kid who has a beef with another student from posting online -- posting anything which doesn't have to be a bad or illegal post.  Then anonymously turn the student into police.

A less severe form of SWATTING, but with potentially horrible outcomes just the same.  This type of "ban" has too many holes where someone might be arrested unjustly with no real way to prove their innocence.

"Each time they make it more difficult to buy a gun legally, PMF numbers increase."
That's not the same as "Yeah but at some point people decided to stop registering them en masse..."

Making <> deciding to stop registering

Only after the number of PMFs being made increased significantly did the rule get changed to force registration of all ghost guns and 80% receiver kits.  Prior to that, there was no need to register except in states with 100% registration laws like ours.

But then I guess it wouldn't be the flap show

If you think i agreed with you, all those "extra words" must have been too long for you to read.

Yeah but at some point people decided to stop registering them en masse, which created an entire underground economy
You believe that point was after RAPBACK?

Oh, sweet Summer child!

Prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968, homemade firearms, or "Privately Manufactured Firearms" (PMFs), were 100% legal with no federal controls placed on them.  As of 1968, if you intended to sell or distribute the guns you made, you had to have an FFL and each gun must have a unique serial number.

It wasn't until Aug 2022 that the BATFE enacted a rule to categorize "a weapon parts kit that is designed to or may readily be completed, assembled, restored, or otherwise converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive" as a "firearm" -- the same way a receiver or frame is categorized for purposes of registration, background checks, etc.

I view this as the opposite situation than people en masse not registering. Instead, the rules by which the game is played were changed so that previous PMFs were now being treated differently.  Private Manufacturers were suddenly transformed from law abiding citizen to firearm felon overnight based on no actions on the part of the individuals.

This is the slippery slope the gun control zealots have been using.  Each time they make it more difficult to buy a gun legally, PMF numbers increase.  Each person they ban from owning guns -- sometimes for being convicted of a non-violent, blue collar crime like insider trading -- the government adds another name to the list of potential customers shopping in that underground marketplace.  With the legitimate sources of guns becoming more restrictive, it's only natural they would turn their focus to the less traditional sources:  DIY kits and ready-made ghost guns.

I’d change the passcode right away and tell the company what happened. I’d also ask for a different tech next time, since opening that envelope wasn’t ok.

Since the thread is from july 2024, there's little chance anything is going to be done "right away."

I don't know why anyone spends 2 seconds blasting what she says.  She's like the senile great grandmother who hasn't had a coherent thought since Hawaii became a state!  It's what the Southern expression, "Well, bless your heart!" became popular for ,,, when you can't say anything nice, say that!

Do people not remember when she was running for governor?  The governor gave the Honolulu mayor his endorsement over Mazie, his Lt. Governor.  If that doesn't tell you who she is (and isn't) what would it take/  Once Mayor Harris dropped out over his failure to resign as mayor before starting his campaign as required by law, only then did she get the governor's endorsement.  She basically came in first place in a 2-horse race after the leader broke his ankle!

Then she lost the race to Linda Lingle, the only other Republican to become governor since 1959.  Not the best endorsement in a Dem-controlled state.  I wonder if Democrats recall that election as the time Lingle won it for the GOP, or if they view it as the election Mazie lost to the GOP?

Gov. Green's proclamation declaring a state of emergency from last Monday through Wednesday, 18 March, didn't go into detail as to which offices or activities were to remain open.

Almost all government offices and programs were to be closed.  I know on Friday, the Department of Human Services was closed until next week.

Offices that can serve customers over the phone and whose employees can work from home may be available.

As usual, phone ahead first rather than just showing up.

General Discussion / Re: Ammo shortage!!!
« on: March 12, 2026, 11:43:24 PM »
Not "again" ...."still."

This has been an ongoing shortage of various degrees.  Nothing has changed other than the trend of retail prices -- up, always up.

Quote
Ammunition availability in 2026 is expected to fluctuate due to ongoing
supply chain constraints and rising raw material costs, with some calibers
stabilizing faster than others. While there may not be a widespread shortage,
certain types of ammo could remain difficult to find at times.
Manufacturers will try to predict demand, which is how they decide on production capacity.  That production capacity comes at a cost.  Labor, buildings, machines, raw materials and so on cost capital.  When demand spikes, capacity has to expand to meet it, or shortages happen.  Rent an additional building, hire new employees and/or pay overtime, out bid other manufacturers for the raw materials, ...

It's an age-old problem.  You plan for producing X of your product with the optimal capacity to keep costs balanced against revenue.  Ramping up to meet shortage-fueled increases in demand requires a lot of investment, and if the demand is projected to taper off once consumers have what they need, buildings and equipment are sold, people are laid off, and the raw materials may also be less available as demand drops.

Every business has the same set of problems and solutions to ponder.  Ammo gets a lot more attention than most because it's related to our ability to exercise Second Amendment protected activities.
