Did not see any bridge burning things except that he refused to endorse Trump.

It was a meaningful speech though. America's values are truly at stake.

He recommended people vote for someone other than Trump:  "And to those listening:  please, don't stay home in November.  If you love our country and love your children as much as I know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience.  Vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution "

He didn't just refuse to endorse Trump, he was using the speech to campaign for people to vote for HIMSELF or anyone else they like better than Trump.

He can forget about Trump nominating him for US Attorney General or the Supreme Court!

Cruz is his own man and I don't think he is obligated to supporting Trump.

If Cruz was going to suggest voting for someone else then maybe he should have suggested a specific candidate. Of course that wouldn't have gone over well.

I think Cruz' message was more one of encouraging voter turn out than an attack against Trump. Cruz has often trumpeted the constitution and he seems to take that beyond party loyalty.

I heard most of the speech. I heard from the beginning all the way until he started in on voting up and down the ticket. I got called away at that point. But when I came back I heard that he was cheered until he said that about voting up and down the ticket and then he was booed until he left the stage.

Is it true he got booed for saying that?

You can rewatch the video from the YouTube I posted, and decide what you think. Most of the reaction from the crowd is near the final 5 mins anyway.

The reason I am asking is that I am at work and have no speakers/ear buds. I won't be able to listen to it until later tonight.

I think it's pretty subjective, that's why I wrote it.

I don't know where it's posted but he had a post speech interview in which he stated his reasons why he did not endorse Trump. I like what he had to say. I highly doubt his supporters will vote for Clinton.

So you're saying voting for Trump and voting your conscience can't be the same thing?  In other words, if you vote for Trump, you MUST be voting AGAINST your conscience?

I think you already know the answer to your questions.  You picked out one phrase and ignored the rest of the comment IN BOLD ITALICS.

Cruz could have just as easily passed on speaking at the convention.  He could have refused to endorse Trump without speaking to the nation.  But, you don't go into another candidate's nomination convention and encourage people to vote for candidates "up and down the ticket".  Ticket is a PARTY list.  If he wanted to include Democrat candidates, he would have said "ballot".

It's a party convention with one purpose:  To nominate Donald Trump as the party's official candidate for President in 2016.  If you think "vote your conscience" was intended to tell people it's okay to vote for Trump, well, I doubt the people at the convention or watching it on TV needed to be told that.
