Too funny I met that guy a few years back while I was working at an event and he seemed pretty cool for the kind of person who runs a flashy limo company. Don't know how long they've been together but I might have met her as well. Tiny island strikes again.

I would say they've been together since at around 2006ish.  I met Heidi when I worked at a bank, she would be the one handling the deposits. I never met the husband.  She was always nice to all the tellers.

She does have social media pics of her helping Kobayashi (DNC), who's anti 2a.  But maybe her view has changed, I mean she is running as GOP.

No need worry. He won't make it past the primary, I promise.
Green will win the D primary.
BJ the R primary.
Green will win the General and be the next shitty Governor of the shitty state of Hawaii.
The only good things about Hawaii is most of the people, the great scenery, food and the weather.
Just about everything else sucks.
I beg to differ a bit, the only thing that sucks about Hawaii is the government.

OK ya'll I did your homework LOL
Used Ballotpedia as its pretty level and has links to candidates sites but I did do research beyond Ballotpedia.
I've met and or spoke to at least half of these folks. If their not mentioned it's cause the lack info/website

US Senator

24 year retired Marine and the only one to complete the Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2022 (which included pro-gun).
PRO-AMERICA & PRO-HAWAII (in that order) and actually has suggestions for solutions to issues. Only one with Web Page
My Pick

Bob McDermott-    https://ballotpedia.org/Bob_McDermott

Been in for 10 yrs on several committees already still trying to solve the same problems i.g. Homelessness, environment, education. Lots of "urging " and "supporting" but not a lot of results.

Asia LaVonne-    https://ballotpedia.org/Asia_LaVonne
All about Faith, Family and Freedom. Fine beliefs but like most others out there, no real explanation of how these are affected and how she'll accomplish her "passionate" list.

Campaign Platform “Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono” I'm always skeptical of the full blown Hawaiian rhetoric as it negates all other non-Hawaiians like we don't count. Governor

Gary Cordery -  https://ballotpedia.org/Gary_Cordery
completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2022.
At one event, after being the first to be introduced and given a couple minutes to speak, he was the only politician who stood there and listened to EVERY other politicians 2 minute spiel. Met with him and he is pro 2a. Also has answers for many issues (Stop Homelessness ? Stop giving them money!) Parents back in appointing school boards, not "all In" on green energy,  Jones Act and more. Seemed like a lot of mutual support and common interests between him and Seaula Tupai Jr.

Another politician with 20 years in. Best you can say is he served with Lingle.

Again, no real explanation of how she'll accomplish her "priorities" which are the same ones everybody else has been working on and campaigning on.
Lots of skeletons in closet.

BJ Penn - https://ballotpedia.org/BJ_Penn
Looks like he got heart but gonna need more than that. And again, too centered on Hawaiians and not all residents of Hawaii but I'll put him at #3

Lynn Barry Mariano - https://ballotpedia.org/Lynn_Barry_Mariano

I'll put her AT #2 just because she's honest, has her heart in the right place and is intelligent enough to do the job.

Bob McDermott, To give him a little leeway,  has been one of the only Hawaii GOP lawmakers for some time now.  He's been consistent and 2A friendly.  Can only do so much when you are alone.  That in itself shows he's down to make a stand, even alone.

NO! to Ikaika

http://hawaiifreepress.com/Articles-Daily-News/ID/32894/August-5-2022-News-Read

Be Change Now, which grew out of a pro-rail super PAC created by the Pacific Resource Partnership in 2012, has spent upwards of $3.7 million this year, including supporting other Hawaii candidates in other races.

The ads are seen as political payback for a financial bailout package for the Honolulu rail project that Luke helped shepherd through the Legislature. PRP lobbied for a permanent extension to the tax surcharge on Oahu residents. Luke and other lawmakers instead passed a measure that only extended that surcharge until 2030.

A union backed PAC that supports MORE taxes ?! WTF?!

Well, for starters, housing prices, whether you rent or buy is expensive. Your staples, bread, milk, eggs and veggies, lot more expensive than the mainland.  Most places exclude Hawaii for free shipping or won't ship at all.  A lot of jobs pay better on the mainland. Josh Green claims he will fix our housing dilemma.  Yeah, right.

https://www.staradvertiser.com/2017/01/26/breaking-news/hawaii-bill-would-classify-homelessness-as-medical-condition/

As an emergency room doctor, Sen. Josh Green sees homeless patients suffering from diabetes, mental health problems and an array of medical issues that are more difficult to manage when they are homeless or do not have permanent housing.

That’s why Green says he wants to homelessness classified under Hawaii state law as a medical condition.

If homelessness is a disease, he reasons, then doctors should be able to write prescriptions for the cure: Housing.

Using Medicare for housing...hmm sounds like FRAUD!

Unfortunately with the amount of union backing Dr. GreenBACKS has he will likely be Governor and he will socialize this State.

Takes a certain type of individual to run for public office. A level of ego that I don't have. So I will continue to vote. I dipped my toes in the local political landscape and it is full of barbed traps ala VietCong style. There are factions within each party. A person to survive must have a lot of resources: human AND financial capital to weather the storm that may brew. People in established power positions will do anything to make sure you don't run or fail. They will attack you, your friends and your family. I have seen what was done in the Downtown district by Rhoads and his party. Don't want to go through that.

The campaign committee of former Hawaii Democratic state Rep. Ty Cullen, who pleaded guilty earlier this year after taking bribes, donated to two candidates for the state House of Representatives last month.

State Campaign Spending Commission data says Friends of Ty Cullen has donated $2,000 to the campaign of Jamaica Cullen on July 26. She is running in the Democratic primary for parts of Waipahu and Hoopili, the area Ty Cullen used to represent.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Jamaica Cullen is Ty Cullen's sister-in-law and worked in his office during the past four legislative sessions.

A voicemail message left for Jamaica Cullen wasn’t returned.

Campaign Spending Commission data shows Friends of Ty Cullen on July 8 donated $2,000 to Rachele Lamosao, who is running in the Democratic primary to represent central Waipahu.

Looking at it from a micro econ point of view. If someone had leadership and all those other qualities to effectively lead an organization would they do it on a government salary? The voters we have (the hiring board) in Hawaii aren't the most discerning based on who we had in office. We tend to elect along party lines no matter qualifications a person has. We elect people on identity not merit. To top it off the hiring board (voters) are absent 50% of the time. https://elections.hawaii.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020-RTS-GE-Graph-1.jpg

Our politicians will take a concern of ours and turn it into an opportunity for them. One example is the rail which was touted as a solution to our problem (Oahu) of traffic congestion.

We would move if it wasn't for my job.  And if my job was paying like $60K or less, we would have moved many years ago. IMO most people do have the option to move, but they just don't want to be out of their comfort zone. But this isn't our situation. I got lots of friends living just above and  pay check to pay check, and refuse to move.  Even though their family situation allows for it.  And the job they're in isn't great either (paycheck to paycheck), so that isn't holding them back.

The other side to this is I have friends who did move and began a successful career. Only to have to move back 10-15 years later because they had to take care of their parents. I ask why don't they move their mom/dad to the mainland with them and the replies were all the same. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Mom/dad likes their current doc who they've had for decades. They know how to drive or bus to get around.  They enjoy going holo holo. So the advice they give to me is if 1 does move, take your retired parents with you while they're still able to learn how to adapt to the new city.

When we have kids, we plan on sending them away after college or high school is complete.  I refuse to let my kids stay here. Or if we can retire during this period, we taking the kids with us and have them finish high school on the mainland.  But our parents situation still would come into play.

Some politicians double dip. Like how former Mayor Kirk was still earning his bank salary while being Mayor.

IIRC, my old senate rep was a realtor, which is commission based and flexible schedule.
