General Discussion / Re: Recycling brass cases

Brass prices went down to $1.10/lb.  Turned in 110lbs for $121 at Reynolds Recycling.

next time try check CMC recycle, they seem to pay more across the board.

General Discussion / Re: What deer scope are you using?
« on: August 09, 2025, 07:49:29 AM »
The scope I use is not great in low light, its a sig. Dawn and dusk are great times to shoot. There have been a few times when I get the feeling that my scopes low-light performance was holding me back, but many more situations where that was not the case.

Part of it is your own skill level. Fair chase as they call it. The cost of those real good scopes goes up exponentially, if you dont have the skills to take advantage of the extra capability, then you are kind of wasting money.

You absolutely do want a super durable scope, you will eat shit on the side of the mountain for sure lol. One of those no questions asked warranty policy scopes would be great to have. I think most scope manufacturers are stepping up their game in that aspect. I once had the battery cap eject itself during a hunt. sig sent me a new cap no questions asked.

Events / Re: Gun Buy Back 12 July 2025
« on: July 28, 2025, 08:19:35 AM »
Yes, this is exactly what happened.  People could take back their guns and come back at another event, or they could turn in the guns and leave their contact information - the people working the desk said that there 'might' be more gift cards back at the office.  It seems like the people I saw that showed up after the cards ran out just turned in their guns anyway.

Thats good to know since I wont be turning in any illegal stuff if I ever do it. Its good to know that I can cancel the transaction and not lose the firearm.

if you take something down there, and they refuse to give a gift card for it, or for whatever reason, like say they run out. can you reneg on the deal and keep your firearm?

Its dead, the message is clear, NO to gut and replace! Im thankful they did the right thing. They will be back next year, and I hope they do it the right way.

If this bill passes into law, we may be stuck with it for a while.  Until SCOTUS takes it up on this or something similar.

There will be no TRO or preliminary injunctions in Hawaii to stop it since Duncan v Bonta sets the losing precedent in the 9th Circuit.

Hawaii currently has a magazine ban (pistol) and assault pistol ban lawsuits on hold pending Duncan.

SCOTUS might not take up Marylands Snopes v Brown AWB appeal which is under their review, since there is no circuit court split.  All the appeals have been lost nationwide when it comes to the AWB.  A split in wins/losses across the nation is one of major decision factors SCOTUS uses.  I think SCOTUS will eventually take a case, but it could be a long time until then.

what about gut and replace aspect? tarnas admited as much on the news. took the text from one bill that already died and inserted into this one.

i heard them call it a loophole. sounds like they are pulling out all the tricks for this one.

General Discussion / Re: Lost a Customer Forever

thats a common policy for big box stores. its an unfortunate situation for sure but you cant really fault a small business for not being able to take that loss.

btw jharas main store is on big island, and thats where the big boss is. the guys in kaimuki are just following the rules. also jhara does not sell anything but ammo at the gunshow, theres no knives.

Got my gift cards this morning.  Generally anything run by the C&C is a pain, but I must say that this event was well organized.  They easily had 50+ people working the event.  I was out in about 5 minutes.  Miller time!

what kind of stuff did you turn in? stripped receivers count?

twist rate 1:10 vs 1:18. with a little bit of training you can probably tell the difference in seconds if the jacket and witness marks are present. thats why i always use ice bullets.  :D

Requirements changed back, no expiration date on hunters education for a long gun permit.

interesting, when/how did that happen?

Not worth the effort to sell once fired brass to people for stuff like 9mm and 556.  Maybe for other calibers like 30-06, 30 carbine, 6.5 creedmore, revolver calibers, etc but still may take a while to sell it.

depends, some buyers are a delight to deal with, others not so much.

Interesting, I think thats pretty close to the going rate especially for common calibers.
