I haven't shot my USP USP 40 Compact in probably 10+ years.  But I am somewhat interested in something like the gun in this video, but in 9.

Olbermann leads left-wing meltdown against CNN, calling to ‘burn it down’ after Biden's performance

Quote
Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann led liberal outrage toward CNN, calling for the network to be "burn[ed] down," after its moderators otherwise received praise over its forum between President Biden and former President Trump.

While bipartisan voices lauded moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, Olbermann and other Biden loyalists appeared to take their outrage at the president’s performance out on the moderators and network.

Wait, I thought some here made it abundantly clear no such thing as media bias, especially with "neutral and always reporting the truth" CNN. . .

Firearms and Accessories / Prioritizing Value When Buying An AR-15
« on: June 25, 2024, 08:21:04 AM »

I haven't been shooting my AR(s) lately nearly as much as I used to.  However, this video brought back a lot of memories and similar experiences when I first got into ARs.  So hopefully this video and ensuing (hopefully intelligent) discussion will help some who are thinking about getting into ARs.

I watch many T-Rex Arms videos on gear mostly because they try a variety, shoot them alot, and share what they like or don't like.  They also include more of their staff and friends/guests for a variety of perspectives, vice just Lucas.  I don't agree with everything they say, but they do spend a lot of time and energy trying, testing, etc via shooting.  I very much appreciate the try for yourself approach, which I spent a lot of money on my own to prioritizing value for my AR setup(s).  I very much appreciate that they have similar shooting disciplines/interests in competition, defensive, etc.

I am very much a fan of BCM uppers and have a few of them.  I have one Aero lower and I think it's just fine, but lowers are lowers (assuming starting with a quality one).  I've tried higher dollar uppers and have sold most of them.  I haven't shot nearly the quantity of rounds that this group has, but I've shot out a couple of uppers and have done many side-by-side testing, like Gov't profile vs lightweight barrels, cold hammer forged vs plain chrome lined vs cheaper/budget, etc.  I have a couple of PSA uppers and they've all shot fine for me, even out to 300 yards (but minute of 12" x 18" plate).

My favorite setup is a Colt 14.5 with BCM rail, Colt lower with Geissele, EoTech EXPS, and Surefire light.  So some similarities and many different "toppings" from what Brandon featured, but different contexts.  Plus no suppressors in HI  :(

Legal and Activism / Hunter Biden Conviction

Hunter Biden 'disappointed' by guilty verdict, Trump campaign calls gun trial a 'distraction'

https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/june-11-jury-deliberation-hunter-biden-verdict

Not news, but I'm posting because I found it interesting that probably/likely grounds for appeal is that Hunter's 2a rights were violated.  My first reaction was the irony of Biden (family or otherwise) looking for 2a as a "defense" for Hunter.  Second was a more cynical, multi-dimension chess, borderline CMO tinfoil conspiracy angle that now Biden will gain support for a "by extension" pro-2a stance.

In any case, mostly keeping tabs on this to observe the circus that is politics and if/how it will impact 2a.

Firearms and Accessories / Trijicon RCR - First Impressions
« on: May 15, 2024, 07:59:41 AM »
Received my Trijicon RCR late last week. I've been waiting for this RDS for over a year now, and seems like they are finally coming back in stock in a few online vendors.  I will soon have a Glock 17.5 milled for the RCR, so it will be a while until I get to shoot the new setup.

As posted in other threads on pistol RDS, I am very much a fan of enclosed emitter RDS.  I still own a few open emitter RDS (RMR, SRO, and am going to try the CHPWS Comp).  However, I've been mostly shooting my pistols with enclosed emitter RDS in training and competition.  I shoot both the ACRO and EPS in pistol matches regularly, and have the EPS and EPS Carry on CCW pistols.  I qualified previously with a 19.3 with RMR, but I have since sold that setup.

Initial impressions are that the RDS is quite compact.  The window is slightly smaller than the EPS, both height and width.  The window is wider than ACRO P2, but ACRO is much taller.  Compared with the RMR Type 2, it’s about the same size and shape, including the rounded top portion of the window.  However, window size overall doesn't matter that much to me when shooting, and don't really notice it.  However, something I noticed upon quick inspection and many folks notice when comparing optics.

Another common observation of the Trijicon optics is the tint of the window.  It has a slight blue hue, similar to RMR, but it doesn’t bother me.  I have only looked through the RCR inside my condo and was trying to notice and distortion or slight magnification at say 7-10 yards and didn’t notice anything, or at least anything very different than the EPS or ACRO.

A Montana woman known as the "Housewife prepper" is helping millions of people get ready for emergencies and be prepared in the event of a natural disaster, conflict with a foreign nation or another pandemic.

The "Housewife Prepper" TikTok and Instagram pages were started in 2023 by Carrie, a California native who lives in Bozeman, Montana, with her husband, Colton.

Her first video was posted after last year's Chinese balloon incident when the high-altitude device flew across North American airspace. The U.S. Air Force eventually shot it down off the coast of South Carolina.

"I was like, oh my gosh, you know, this is a no-controlled situation. We need to start preparing for anything," Carrie told Fox News Digital. "We're allowing this other country in our airspace, like what's next?

"Saturday Night Live" took a crack at President Biden during the "Weekend Update" segment by comparing him to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, Maryland.

"President Biden said Friday that he would visit the site of the Baltimore bridge collapse because, like that bridge, Biden is no longer connecting with Black communities," comedian Michael Che said.

After the crowd erupted in laughter, the camera cut to Che's colleague Colin Jost, who smiled and let out an audible "wow."

Starting a thread to share experiences and recommendations on weapon mounted lights, with particular interest in high lumen and candela.  For detailed information on lumens vs candela vs lux, please do some quick google-fu.

I recently picked up a couple of new WML intended for use with pistols.  The Streamlight TLR7A and Surefire X300 Turbo.  I have a few X300 Ultras for a couple of ARs and pistols, we well as a few X300 (prior to Ultra).  I think the "regular" X300s are 180-200 lumen range.  I've had them on my longtime go-to HD pistols.  Long story short, for HD, I will be updating to the Streamlight TLR7A.  More on that below.

I haven't been able to test the X300 Ultra against the Turbo outside my condo.  However, I can already tell the differences in flood vs focused beam/throw.  There are a number of excellent videos where folks did outdoor testing, but the camera doesn't pick up as much as the human eye does, so I always want to test for myself.  I'll be sure to test next time I go camping at my friend's ranch property, which has large open spaces with stuff like trees, animals, etc to test lighting ID-ability at night/low light.  Overall, I think the Turbo would be a good combo with one of my ARs.  As well as maybe switching the M600DF on to a high candela light, or one with a better balance of high lumen/flood and high(er) candela.

For my condo, I like the features of the Streamlight TLRA.  It's 500 lumens and I think something like 1000-1500 candela (not much).  However, it's an improvement over the regular X300s.  I also like that the TLR7A is more compact front to back dimension than the X300s, for various reasons.  One of the more recent considerations is for CCW, where the TLR7A lens is about flush with the end of the barrel of a Glock 19, and slightly back from the end of the barrel for a Glock 17.  The lenses of the X300's get covered with carbon quickly with just dozens of rounds fired.  I'm not particularly concerned from a "real use" perspective, but just something I've noticed over years of shooting with the X300.

Firearms and Accessories / CCW Holsters - Experiences & Recommendations
« on: December 05, 2022, 12:42:30 PM »
What are your current CCW holster preferences?  Have you tried new holsters or other gear recently?

I've been trying out different Tier 1 AIWB holsters lately.  The Aegis Elite, MSP, and Xiphos for my 17, 19, and 43x.  Before that, I had been using the Axis and a couple of different variations of holsters from TRex Arms, in the rare times that I would CCW on the mainland.

Each of the holsters have pros and cons, so wanted to try for myself.  The newest are the MSP, which accommodates a wide range of firearms as long as you use a WML, in my case X300U. My current personal preference is the Xiphos for my 19 Gen 3, which also fits a 17 Gen 3.  The Gen 5 models fit slightly differently.

The latest thing that I've been trying/testing is the Alias by Neomag, which is a bracket that goes on your belt in the place of the plastic clips.  It provides a more solid attachment without or less pivoting and up/down movement.  Both are helpful with certain methods of draw, but that's a whole other topic.

Prior to the holsters I mentioned above, I used a holster from G-Code that was with HSP.  I've since gave that one away to a friend.  I still have an OWB holster and mag pouches from Raven Concealment.

Sharing experiences with aftermarket triggers for handguns, and any recommendations.

I shot all stock triggers for a long time.  My first foray into aftermarket triggers was with my Gucci Glocks that came with a ton of aftermarket parts, including the trigger.  Shot those for a long time.  It wasn't until recently that I dabbled into aftermarket triggers on other handguns.

Some recent trials:
- Glock Timney with Johnny Glock vex shoe
Have this on a Gen 4 17 frame meant for competition.  I use a 34 and 17RDS slide.  The Timney trigger break is nice compared to the stock Glock, but quite light and quite a bit of overtravel.  With the JG shoe and connector, it increased the break a touch (haven't put on a gauge), which I like.  Also decreases the overtravel, reset spring pressure is improved, a solid wall, and short reset.

- Overwatch Precision
Have this on a 43x.  Only about 50 rounds with it, but there are some things I like over the stock 43x trigger, but some things that are meh, or at least that I have to get used to.  Need to give it more time.

Swapping out the complete FCG also served as a reminder on occasionally needing to clean those areas that are exposed when swapping those parts out.  Talk about years of gunk, that some mention can act as mild abrasives and causing wear.  I now occasionally clean out those areas here and there because things can start to bind up, particularly with a carbon cleaning product, which I no longer use.

Sharing experiences and recommendations on subcompact pistols, like Glock 43/43x/48, Sig P365 variants, etc.

I recently bought a Glock 43x and 48 MOS.  Got the 43x milled for the Holosun K footprint and put on an EPS Carry.  With the micro/slimline pistols becoming a lot more popular, I wanted to see for myself.  I have shot many in the past, but just a mag or two of friends' guns or other folks who came to various range days.

For CCW, my primary is Glock 19.  I have tons of rounds with them in training, classes, and some competition.  I have carried it here and there when/where legal.  While I can conceal it just fine, I assumed a smaller pistol would/could be a benefit.  So wanted to try for myself.

I have about 300 or so rounds with the 43x.  I have a couple of IWB holsters and a OWB holster.  Still getting used to shooting it.  Overall, I enjoy shooting the 43x, but shoot the 19 way better.  I think mostly due to the grip stippling I have on the 19, as well as the width of the 19 allows for a more comfortable or maybe familiar grip.  I plan to get the either the 43x or 48 stippled soon and see if that changes things.  I can get a comfortable grip on the 43x, but seems like my hands are fighting for space.  Results on paper are also way better with the 19, but assume mostly because of familiarity.

No malfunctions or other issues with the 43x so far.  The only issue I noticed was that when I changed out the mag release to a Vickers, the mags wouldn't drop as well as with the stock release.  I have the Vickers on all of my other Glocks (19, 17, 34) and they work well.  For the 43x, the profile seemed lower than the stock.  So I went back to the stock mag release.

I've shot the P365 side-by-side with the 43x.  The P365 XL or Macro do interest me a little, but will likely stick with the 43x and see how about 1000 rounds go.  I had hoped to shoot the 43x in a match in carry optics, but that won't happen for a while. . .  :(

Share your experiences and recommendations for closed emitter RDS for pistols.

Just ordered a Holosun EPS Carry from Midway.  Signed up for notification over the weekend and got the notification some came in stock this morning.

Have been researching a lot more about pistol RDS, particularly for a Glock 43x that I bought recently.  The EPS Carry is one that is for the "slim" Glocks, but also have been researching a lot of the Aimpoint, Steiner, and Holosun 509T for full sized handguns a lot lately.  Good feedback from some YTers as well as a trusted instructor friend.  Know a couple of members here picked them up recently as well.

It will be a couple of weeks until I have both the gun and RDS to test, but already looking forward to trying both.

Dipping my toes into the Sig P320 world.  I have LONG wanted a P320 X-Five Legion, but held off for a number of reasons.  The cost of mags as well as having to get all of the support gear were the main reasons.  I had plenty of opportunities to pick up the X-Five Legion from friends along the way for great prices, but even then held off.

Bought a P320 X-Full with Romeo.  In the waiting period now.

I was always interested in the P320 series for a while, so looking forward into having one for myself.  I thought about getting one a while back for USPSA Production, but then I got super busy with work.  Blah, blah, blah, excuses, excuses.

I've read and seen a number of videos of how folks got a P300 series addiction.  Some started with P320 and then on to P365.  Some starting with P365 and on to P320.  For me, I recently bought a Glock 43x and was looking at a P365XL as well.  Since I have to go through the PTA process anyways, might as well "maximize"  No P365 in stock locally (at least the LGSs I checked).   However, one did have the X-Full in-stock and got the bug.

Anyone else a P320 & P365 fan?

Durham releases former Clinton lawyer Michael Sussmann's text message, says he put 'lie in writing'

Quote
Special Counsel John Durham, in a filing late Monday, released what may prove to be a crucial piece of evidence in the case against former Clinton lawyer Michael Sussmann—a text message he sent to the former FBI general counsel the eve of their September 2016 meeting stating "the same lie in writing" that the information he would share would be "not on behalf of a client or company."

Hope he has good life insurance, with coverage for sudden suicide syndrome. . .

Finally picked up a PCC in 9 mm recently.  A friend is moving away and needed to liquidate some of his collection, so I figured I would "help".  ;D

It's a AR style with Colt SMG mag lower, which was what I was looking to get for a while.  I had the mags for probably over 2 years now, but finally getting the gun.  Both the ammo craziness and COVID put a big damper on that, as well as getting side tracked by the rabbit holes of .22 lr and long(er) range centerfire.  In the last many months, I was able to slowly pick up components for 9 mm, so that should help both getting back into shooting pistols as well as the PCC.

Anyways, what have you got?  Good, bad, etc.  For USPSA/IPSC, I've seen many CZ and MPX.  I came close to getting an MPX a while back before deciding to go the Colt pattern SMG route.

For now, have have the gun and recently picked up a Holosun.  My first time owning a Holosun, so looking forward to seeing how the red dot does.
