Political Discussion / Dakota Pipeline Update
« on: March 20, 2025, 08:00:44 AM »
So they sued Green Peace for their involvement in blocking workers from their area and trespassing.  A jury awared them $600 million.

Brandon cancelled Trumps XO to build the pipeline.  We get 30% of our oil from Russia and this pipeline would allow us to not need as much.

Trump wants them to rebuild, but I understand how they would be hesitant cause the next POTUS could be corrupt and halt their work.

Thousands lost their job and were told to take up coding by Brandons press secretary.

This is about "ghost guns".  Apparently our prosecution cannot prosecute someone yet and needs this law.

Legal and Activism / SB401 50 cal 3/13 Hearing
« on: March 13, 2025, 03:25:45 PM »
125 support and many copy/paste. They think since the Bruen ruling that 50s are allowed to be carried now.
247 opposed.

1 testifier who had the gay flag in his backtround called pro 2a people ammosexuals and instead we should be hugging children.

HPD was on zoom.
DLE didn't testify.
AG not present.

Everytown rep on zoom said the 50 cal rifle was designed to  take people out and penetrate vehicles to hit people inside. It's not. It's design was as anti material. So to destroy equipment.

Pro 2a testifier was a weapon trainer and it was funny cause he said the 50 cal is a "heavy bastard", with regard to people saying you can carry it around.

Any bill as of now that doesn't have a scheduled hearing is dead by default.

Example: Knife bill is dead.

Legal and Activism / SCOTUS decisions on attorney fee's
« on: February 26, 2025, 03:31:37 PM »
Taken from a FB HI gun post.

"This hasn't made news headlines, but this recent SCOTUS decision concerning attorneys fees paid in civil rights lawsuits will stop a lot of 2A lawsuits from being filed from now on. SCOTUS decided in Lackey v Stinnie that attorney's fees are only required to be paid on a final court decision whereas in the past fees were paid when attorneys won on preliminary injunctions
This affects our private practice attorneys like Alan Beck. For example on Wolford v Lopez (sensitive places), if we win a preliminary injunction at SCOTUS then Hawaii changes the law to comply before the District Court final decision is made. Under this current ruling Alan Would receive $0 for his hundreds of hours of work even if he won the case. Hard to make a living like that working alone. Only the well funded organizations like SAF and NRA can absorb those loses but they rarely file lawsuits in Hawaii (SAF did fund the young adults 2A lawsuit recently).
This is why we cannot rely on lawsuits to protect the 2A. It's up to the 2A leaders like us instructors to prevent bad laws from popping up in the legislature. All of us instructors have to play a bigger role in protecting the 2A."

They've changed this as it now only applies to felons or prohibited persons.

8
Example:

If an injunction was issued to make a civil rights law unenforceable until a hearing is ruled on, like say 2a stuff and then the state changes the law, that lawsuit is considered moot.  Before this ruling, the attorney could file for attorney's fees. Now they cannot.

Real life example:The HI taser lawsuit, It took about 5 years to go through. HI decided to change the law, thus making the lawsuit moot. Aka pointless cause the law was changed.

Current real example: Sensitive places lawsuit, there's an injunction currently in force. If at any point while we await SCOTUS to take the lawsuit or not HI changes the law, then any attorney's fees that Beck and O'Grady have accrued won't be paid.

What this means, less civil rights lawsuits because states can just change the law because lawyers will want money up front knowing that they can be doing years of work for no pay.

The ruling was based on "prevailing party" being paid, which means a lawsuit is ruled upon and over.  An injunction means that the lawsuit is still active and mooting a case means no harm due to the law being changed. So nothing worth suing over anymore.

So, states like HI will do more F-U, sue us type laws.

Political Discussion / DOGE Thread
« on: February 11, 2025, 07:56:00 AM »
Go DOGE go.

TDS is so strong that even when billions are being uncovered as wasted, people are still against it.  We need someone like Elon, richest man in the world can't be bribed.  Same with Trump, he has enough money that you cannot bribe him, nor does he need ways to make millions via corrupt government things like other politicians.

DOGE found that FEMA sent 58 million to house illegals in CA. Which is illegal for FEMA To do.

Legal and Activism / Recap of 2/6 House Hearing
« on: February 07, 2025, 08:14:19 AM »
The Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) new guy was there.  He was wrong on 2 big things.  With regards to his testimony on the places to keep for parts he said something like:

"If there's 2 guys and 1 is holding the slide and the other is holding the lower, we cannot charge them with a crime".  So HIFICO pointed out that he was wrong as the lower is the "firearm" and serialized part that has to be registered too.

There was 1 more he was wrong about and HIFICO called him out on that too, but I forget.

So this is who's supposed to head the DLE next.

MDA was there and used sad stories to get the "assault weapon" bill passed. They of course cherry picked their stats like how "assault rifles" are used in most active shooters. They used Ulvade and Sandy Hook. But left out MIT and Columbine.  They also used "we need to save the keiki" for the storage bill, which is already law for minors and firearm access.

The vet was there and he made sure to bring up his status and mentioned carrying his M4 in war.  When his funding gets cut, I wanna see if he still shows up.

"Suicide" daughters mother wasn't there, nor did she submit any testimony.  Maybe her funding was cut off as she was starting to go off the rails.

HPD and the AG were absent.  DLE never testified for the assault weapon/mag ban bill.

HIFICO did a good job pointing out flaws in some of the bills, which is why the places to keep bill died (I highly suspect this).

This is all from memory, so others can chime in if I'm mistaken or missing important stuff.
