I give up already.  I just hope and pray for the best every time I get behind the wheel.

Like I've mentioned, you can be the best defensive driver out there, but one thing you cannot control is what the other asshat is doing in the other vehicle.

My poor little Prius was rear ended by a guy in a Jeep. He was obviously on his phone. He tried to convince not to report the accident as he was a felon who missed a court date. He said he could pay me cash for repairs. Of course that didn't help so I called HPD.

Hawaii has an extremely high rate of drivers who carry AINOKEA Insurance on their vehicles.

My 2002 Toyota Tundra only had 60K miles and was 9 years old when a woman hit it with her Dodge Ram pickup.  i guess it was more Ram than Dodge!

It would have never been hit if the city hadn't been paving my street.  I had to park 2-12 blocks from my house on the busy Kipapa Street.  She hit it with a LOT of force even though she only had 1 block to get up to speed from the intersection she had to turn into.

That section of Kipapa is very wide, so there's no reason for her to have to be close to my parked truck, much less hit it almost square on.

Her truck had a smushed in front end with leaking coolant and other fluids.  It had to be towed.  I don't think it would start as badly as it was damaged.

I was able to safely drive mine to the boy repair shop close to Costco. My truck was totaled because of its age and the bent frame.  There was no straightening the existing frame.  The body shop said they had to order a whole new frame and move the body and other other systems to that frame.  Total estimate for repair was over $16K, so USAA paid me about $12K. after the $500 deductible.

i sued to get my deductible reimbursed and received a judgement, but KI was never able to contact the Ram driver.  She had no insurance, which is why I had to file under my USAA policy.  Also, the month prior, she'd just finished paying a judgement from almost a year before for distractive driving/cell phone.  Looks like she didn't learn her lesson.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

At least HI insurance isn't as bad as Vegas. For the same car and coverage that cost $87/mo here, Vegas would be about $200/mo. They have way more uninsured drivers, hence teh higher premiums. Also, way more people running red lights due to the lights being longer.

Oh Ok.

But do they have to spend $70 (including tip) just for an edible lunch for two?

MADNESS!

Thanks Bernanke, Powell, and of course our very own local Communist party

Why am I still living here.

I'm surprised I'm still living considering all the close calls I've experienced.  It was almost daily when I was still working.

Now that I'm retired I don't drive as much.  But that damn song "Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie" keeps coming up everytime I get behind my wheel.
